“Great location and design, but overpriced”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 10, 2013

Buyukada itself is a great place to have vacation, and the location of the hotel is fantastic, 10 mins walk to the pier, the restaurants, the local markets etc. and the private beach, so basically the location is very central. The staff is quite friendly, in fact it is a family run hotel, so basically they are the owners. The breakfast is fine. The hotel building itself is a historical one and very nice, although it is quite old. Famous Turkish TV series was filmed there.
However, there number of disadvantages. The bathroom is shared with other 3 rooms on the floor and need renovation. Sometimes toilet paper and the soap is missing, the lighting inside is bad, if you take bath in the evening.
The cleaning services are not provided and the towels are only changed at request.
Overall the price they charge is too expensive for this hotel

Room Tip: If you choose a King room, then you'll have private toilet and bathroom, rather than shared, howe...

Ecclectic, funky but not up to standards.....too expensive. Shared bathroom..the building may be historical but it is not really good for a hotel. İf you stay at Buyukada, choose a place on the seaside with a view.

We ate at the terrace of this hotel on our day trip to the island because of the charming appearance of the exterior. The host was charming and relaxed. He said his wife was going to cook the lunch so we anticipated a lovely lunch. The salad was fairly good - small serving. My husband ordered the schnitzel - blackboard menu price TL15. I ordered a mixed plate. The schnitzel was two sticks with one very small piece of dry chicken on each stick with a very small amount of breadcrumbs. When we got the bill we had been charged TL25 ?? each per meal plus TL10 for the salad. When I queried the price - because of the blackboard menu - the host said that price TL15 was for only one schnitzel not two pieces!!! Dishonest excuse for being caught out overcharging tourists. He reduced the price of the schnitzel but wouldn't reduce the price of the other meal as it was a mixed plate (2 small meatballs and one small piece of chicken on a stick) Both meals had a small amount of French fries and not potato as described. Avoid this place - or just have a drink - to enjoy the location. Confirm the price in writing before ordering! I rarely write bad reviews - usually my reviews are glowing - but not this time.

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else to avoid the rip off.

this hotel is five star worthy, we had a fantastic time. I traveled with a party of 7 including a 8 year old who loved a break from the sun for an hour in the kids club. We had 2 rooms and requested them both pool side but we only got one that was pool side. My experience of both rooms is that they were both noisy therefore if you are a light sleeper this hotel may not be for you. However, if you are looking for a friendly atmospheric hotel this is the one. The staff go out of there way to give you a good time and the Havanna boys are fantastic. The rooms were spotless and the staff from the maids right through to the receptionist go over and above to help you.

This was our first trip to Turkey and they really did make this holiday fun.

$150 a night for a double room with a tiny full size bed and NO PRIVATE BATHROOM??? I have stayed in some groovy, funky, eclectic places that I have loved. None of them, however, had the audacity to charge $150 a night. This place is a pansyon, a residencial, a hostel...and should charge accordingly. Our friend is upstairs in a single room which is literally a closet in the attic for 75€. So not impressed.

I should say at the outset that we didn't stay here. We only ate dinner. We were, in fact, looking for another restaurant entirely and failed to find it. We only noticed this hotel quite by chance and wandered in. There was a somewhat surreal tinge to the experience overall. We asked whether they were serving food (there was a daytime menu outside) and told we could have meatballs and rice if we wished. We were so tired and hungry from tramping the streets in search of a morsel that we said yes. Our main motivation apart from food, I have to confess, was to get inside the very lovely building and explore. We were taken upstairs and shown to a tiny balcony, which we were told we could eat on. Our host then disappeared and reappeared again, phone clamped firmly under his chin (it had been there since the start of our transaction). He put the table cloth down on the table and disappeared to converse some more. We spread our own table cloth, joking that it was a 'set your own' party. Eventually the food came. I have to say that it was below average, but we nevertheless had a wonderful time. We felt as though we were utterly alone in this beautiful house, and the whole thing had the feel of an adventure to it. The stinger came when we were expected to pay 110L for what was essentially a very average meal. The host was charming, if limited in his English (it was still better than our Turkish). We did feel we'd been ripped off, which is never a nice feeling, but even so agreed that we'd had a wonderful evening - it was entirely to do with the element of the unexpected and the house itself, which had enormous charm. We did peer into the rooms and had many fantasies of owning the building ourselves and what we would do with it, but as they stood, we were doubtful how comfortable a stay would be. Having said that though, we didn't stay there and so our views are entirely conjectural.

The hotel possesses such a character, but as per previous review the owner(s) need to get their act together and act more professional. This is a boutique hotel and not a hostel. Its prices are also high compare to the service they offer. The breakfast is really poor - they prepare a plate for you that is cling filmed, there is nobody around to serve you or even ask you if you need something.

In regards to the toilet - yes, you share it but we were lucky there was no other guests on our floor so it belonged to us! However, it definitely needs refreshing and proper, proper cleaning, especially the toilet seat.

As I said, the place is lovely, but if owners continue 'managing' this place as they do it now, this place will loose the charm and won't be getting positive reviews.

I can't believe they have not done anything up to know!

Located at Istanbul Buyukada, Malul Gazi Avenue, this mansion was constructed in the second half of the XIXth century. Its front facade is enlivened with drop arch sectional windows. There are balconies at the front facade of the mansion both on first and second floors. The entrance from the ground floor is surrounded by narrow and long windows at both sides. There are moldings between the floors, and eclectic decors are found in the interiors. And in some parts, floral and herbal motifs and landscape are observed. As the Meziki mansion is a first-class historical building, it is included in the list of cultural properties to be protected. The decoration of our rooms is made with furniture of that period remaining loyal to the original texture of the rooms.Having totally 12 rooms, our mansion was used as location of a TV drama series "Dudaktan Kalbe (From the Lips to the Heart)" broadcasted for a while on television, and also many other commercial films, whereby it has impressed many visitors throughout the world. Our rooms have private bathrooms and toilets .standart room shared bathroom and toilet.
