Old Greek House Restaurant and Hotel
Ranked #1 of 10 Mustafapasa B&B and Inns
Reviewed December 17, 2011

I had an upstairs room to myself. Cozy and comfortable. The stairs to the room are a bit uneven and you must proceed with caution at night but the building is very old. I felt it added to the ambiance. Mr Suleyman, the owner was very gracious. He went out of his way to get stamps for me to mail my postcards and would take no tip for his efforts. The food is authentic Turkish family-style and very good. Plenty to eat every meal. I enjoyed my 3 nights here and was sad to leave.

On a recent stay at this wonderfully preserved old inn, we were warmly welcomed by the knowledgeable, friendly staff. Climbing the ancient, uneven stairs, and entering through a traditionally low doorway, we were delighted to find our historical room had an updated, ensuite bath with - wonderful surprise - lots of hot water and great water pressure! We delighted in eating delicious Turkish food served either Ottoman style, reclining on cushions in a private room, or seated at a table in the salon, A lovely open, vine-covered terrace accommodates visitors for dining during spring, summer and fall. Exploring the antique decor and ancient carpet covered walls of this lovely, historical inn, one can almost hear echoes of the laughter from generations of families who once lived and played here. We’ll always remember how magical was our visit to the Old Greek Hotel!

This is a beautifully preserved historical property in the heart of quaint Mustaphapasa. The Old Greek House retains the historical nature of the old stone building with original staircases and yet boasts upgraded sleeping and bathing facilities. The staff are attentive, helpful and kind. We were immediately at ease and felt like they would do anything for us. The food is authentic and by far the best we have experienced in Turkey. This place is a 10. We will stay here everytime.

Located in quaint Sinasos village, the facilities were a little too rustic for our liking. We were there in late September. No heat in the rooms. Hotel appears to depend on solar for hot water heating and as it was cloudy two out of the three mornings we were there we had no hot water. Dining room is open to elements and thus it too was very cold. Breakfasts were skimpy at best. Rooms had no TV or kettle. In our room lampshades were missing. Wireless provided in the dining room.

Room Tip: Stay away from this hotel!

We were on the Rick Steve's tour with "Mary Sunshine". Our room was on the ground floor and we had WiFi in our room. Our door opened onto the dining area and we literally had to excuse ourselves to get around diners blocking our doorway. Of course, we heard all the dinner conversations until things quieted down after 10:00 PM and we were awakened one night by tour members returning from a late night activity who were locked out and had to pound on the door to raise a staff member. Drying clothes in our room was near impossible and were grateful to discover the outside line on the upper patio. The location is great for all the activities in the area, the staff is accommodating, the food is good, but not outstanding. All in all, don't expect too much and you won't be disappointed.

The Old Greek House is very unique. We stayed there for 3 nights with a Rick Steve's tour group. It is indeed very old, and with that comes some of the shortcomings. My husband and I were on the 2nd floor, and we actually had 2 connected rooms with a bath. We probably had more room than most of the others on the tour. The hotel provided us with breakfast and dinner two evenings. It is a very interesting place, however it is not for everyone. The door heights are low, and my husband hit his head several times while going into the bathroom. The stairs up to our room were uneven, and it was difficult to carry luggage up and down. Of course, the staff will carry the luggage, but it was difficult even going up and down the stairs. The rooms were dark and somewhat damp. It was difficult to dry clothes, although they did provide an outside line, and a service to wash clothes. The breakfast was adequate, although not exceptional. The dinners were good. We were there for 3 nights and I think that was too long. As I said it was a unique experience, but not for everyone.

I generally try to accentuate the positive in my reviews but this was one of our biggest disappointments of recent years. We booked it as a memorable final night - hotel and food - for our capadoccia stay and were very underwhelmed. We found ourselves shoehorned into a confined, claustrophobic room with two large and noisy groups. The ambience had no intimacy; there was no welcome or feeling of being a valued customer - not helped by the wait staff speaking no English, not even the normal rudimentary kind (this lack of warmth was very very unusual in our Turkish stay, where we were generally impressed by the friendliness); and our position was very draughty as the waiters left the door to the outside open permanently as they were in and out all the time. The food was OK but much less impressive than previous reviewers suggest - the low point for us being a dish of shredded carrot without any dressing or spices! And the hyped up homemade halva desert may have been authentic but, being made from semolina, was basically tasteless. Our overall impression was that the place now primarily caters for tour groups and is trading on its past reputation.
The room we had was acceptable but fairly basic, lacking in sockets and wifi (the hotel has it but we couldn't connect in the room), and in a very dangerous location - alongside a rooftop patio with unresponsive lighting (doesn't come on until you've walked some yards) and a very sharp drop in level that it would be very easy to fall down at night. The access is also via some very steep stairs which are hazardous in general but especially when raining and slippery (as it was when we stayed). Several of the hotel rooms are in this area so check their location carefully if you're in any way infirm.
