“As good as we expected”
Reviewed October 2, 2009

We stayed at the Santa Susanna Hotel for 2 nights from the 29th September 2009. It was a late deal and we got bargain. We simply wanted a short break away and this all inclusive hotel looked to fit the bill.
Flight was stress free from East Midlands with Ryanair and the transfer was arranged prior to travel. We subsequently found out a taxi might have cost around 50 euros so the much cheaper pre-booked transfer was a sensible option, this took around 40 minutes by coach.
Upon arrival it was clear this was a very British hotel with karaoke blasting out when we got off the coach. We checked in with the English women on reception and got our all inclusive wrist bands. We then went to our room but the door key card needed re-coding, (much prefer normal keys).

Room was basic but clean, ours was 218 and did not have air con, I presume this is the same throughout. it was at the back of the hotel and probably best as it was away from the entertainment although this could still be heard at night slightly. The walls are very thin too and with the balcony door left open due to no air con the people next door could be heard. We had a double bed and two singles which we didn’t use along with a shower bath.

Food was ok and served in their restaurant below the hotel, which prevented flies and would probably be quite cool in the heat of summer. There was nothing cooked fresh but food was hot and well presented with a decent selection. Typical all inclusive food really. There was cooked breakfast or choice of cereals/toast etc and juice.
There were afternoon snacks served poolside, hotdogs, toasties and burgers with fries. These were quite nice but the miserable staff only allowed two items per person which prevents you taking food to your partner! Silly rule really and this also applies to drinks.

We only ate in the hotel for evening meal once and again it was as expected, nothing spectacular but perfectly edible. We went to the nearby Japanese the second night.
The lager on tap was Amstel and tasted good.

There was nightly entertainment laid on, including live music. The hotel is situated on a main busy road however and it is a good 10 minutes walk to the beach even for us in our mid twenties. There is a free shuttle train service to take you if you don't wish to walk.
Pool was clean and the hotel had designated smoking areas which was good for those trying to avoid being near cigarettes.
It had a games area with arcase machines and a couple of pool tables. This might be the ideal hotel for families with children on a budget wanting to stay in this area.

Overall the hotel and stay was as we expected for a cheap couple of days away. It is definitely at best a 3 star and I have stayed in other 3 stars which are nicer.
A hotel designed for the British in mind, don't go expecting too much, if you want 5 star then pay for it.

just got back thank god!! 9 nights here is too long, a day is too long. The food is repetative and the same every night, the entertainment is???? what entertainment!! the guests sang karaoke every night thats all we saw! The food is covered in flies yuk!! especially at the snack bar!! The rooms were HOT sleepless nights :-( they need air con and fast! that would be a good start.... There is nothing to do in santa susanna. The beach is ok, but so is the ones we have in england. So nothing special there. The staff are over worked in the restaurant, the same 3/4 guys every meal time! they need a break! we will never ever return to this resort, not in a million years. Ecerything is so expensive too. If your gonna go hear then make it a 3 night stya cos that is certainly long enough.... Our beds were never changed in the whole of the 9 nights which is pretty grim seeing the amount of sweating you do due to the lack of air con. Our floor in the room was gross on arrival and stayed that way too, i wore shoes wen in the room to avoid getting dirt in my bed! My boyfriend was bitten by mosquitos 10 times or more and the room gets full of flies. The jacuzzi smells of sewers and is greeny yellow! i dread to think..... also the fee bus tried to charge us when we hopped on for our lift back, he said he was going around the mountains on a trip lol! everyone i spoke to said they did not enjoy the food or the entertainment or the hot rooms at night. Our tv only picked up itv3!! so we had nothing to do whatsoever!
To summerise if you like sleeping in boiling heat, eating the same food every lunch and dinner and can cope with karaoke every night then this hotel is for you

Me and my boyfriend went on 20th - 27th Sept, after reading the previous reviews we were both a bit apprehensive about the hotel. Our 1st impressions were 'what can people complain about'??

Rooms - were cleaned every day with fresh towels. Bedding changed mid week. They were basic but you are only in the room for sleep and getting ready! We had a room with a Balcony and pool view, it was lovely to sit out on chilling for 1/2 hour with a drink or 2 before getting ready at night!

Staff - most of them always had a smile on their faces, there were a couple that looked a bit miserable now and again but then wouldn't you working 10hours a day for 7 days a week for 7 months without a day off!

Location - not in the centre of the resort, but with free buses and choo choo trains every 1/2 hour it was very easy to get to the beach / shops / market in 5 mins!

Food - Breakfast ranged from cereals, bread, cheese&hams, toast, croissants, and bacon, sausages, eggs, beans etc. Lunch & Dinner always soup, fresh salads and cold pasta, hot food was a choice of 2 meat dishes 1 fish dish and potatoes, chips, veg. cakes, jelly, ice cream, blamanche.
I am a bit of a fussy eater but i had no complaints whatsoever with the food.

Entertainment - there was always something on at night, whether it be a kareoke night, live act, disco etc. We had an 'X Factor' night when we where there it was really good - well done Sammie on winning x

Overall - We would definately go back, but not in June / July / Aug as no air con in the rooms and they do get quite hot (we took a plug in fan) it did the job at night!

We were both sad when we come to leave yesterday, but heyho back to reality. Alwas next year..................

Came back to U.K. on Mon. 28/09/ 09 after a three night break . This is a cheap , basic , clean hotel . The staff are happy and helpful . The rooms are a little small , i should immagine that if the weather is hot then a fan is a must have item as there is no air conditioning . Food is the normal Spanish Hotel Menu with plenty of choice and quite acceptable . Wouldn't be happy to use the pool which is cold , but that apart from that , the water wasn't quite "right" !! The bar is quite free with the happy juice but some of our party suspected the vodka and gin to be diluted , they simply consumed more to overcome the problem !! Entertainment is what you'd expect for the money paid , the kareokee machine broke down on our last night - bliss . I can't understand the cleanliness complaints in the other reviews as we saw cleaning going on most of the day in all areas and none of our group had any complaint in all of the twelve rooms we occupied .
It's true that you'd fit in better if you have tatoos and body piercings here , but there was no trouble that we saw , if you go to your bed before the bar shuts then you must expect to take ear plugs with you in most holiday hotels .
A major plus for the daytime is there is no loud music played at the poolside , i've had holidays spoiled by over enthusiastic d.j.'s in the past .
Another observance was smoking seemed to be allowed in most areas with no designated no smoking areas outside . Call me Victor Meldrew if you like .

First let me assure you despite other negative comments this is a fantastic Hotel offering superb food, drink and value for money, and it make me angry that just because this resort does not offer Fois Gras or Quails eggs at meal times those that wrote negative reviews, are trying to deny other readers a great Holiday at a great place. However what they do serve is basic but tasty and nutritious food but more on that later.
After last years awful holiday courtesy of Thomas Cook and Olympic Holidays we vowed never to use a high street travel agent so We booked through an on line travel agency called greatlatedeals and I can honestly say this was the best and most hassle free holiday we have ever had.
We paid £580 for both of us to stay for 1 week fully inclusive. we flew from Doncaster by Ryanair both the outgoing and return flights were bang on time, who wants to be left hanging around when your only away for a week. We were met at Genoa airport by a Rep from resorthopper who showed us to our coach and we enjoyed a lovely smooth ride to our Hotel. We had quite a few stops but unlike last year the driver was very quick at unloading passengers and there luggage, so we were only on the coach for about 45 minutes.
When we booked in we were both given a blue wrist band which is your key to as much food and booze as you can handle. We were given a room on the fourth floor, which is quite strange because this Hotel is split level, when you enter the Hotel you are already on the 3rd floor so we were only one floor up from the reception etc. Our room was larger then we expected with a balcony and large patio type doors leading out to it. Our room was both clean, tidy and smelt fresh, the bedding was also clean and had been made up. The Maids were in our room every day changing sheets and towels, they also mopped our room and bathroom. We were slightly disappointed that our view from the balcony was overlooking a large Supermarket car park but it did not take us long to realise that despite the lack of air conditioning this side of the Hotel only had the sun shinning on it for a few hours a day, so it was never really got that hot.
All meals were Buffet style although there were waiters milling about clearing tables, changing table cloths, they did this quickly and efficiently. Breakfast was served from 8.45 till 9.30 with a good choice of “full English” type dish's there were 3 types of egg, 3 types sausage, bacon, beans etc. There was a choice of 6 different types of cereal, fruit juices as well as a good continental choice of salami, cold meats, cheese. Dinner was served at 12.30 till 14.00 to many choices to mention but my Wife and me had something different every day. Evening meal was served 18.45 till
21.00 and again to many choices to mention. On Saturday they even had a carvery. The dinning room was large and you sat where you wanted in the spacious air conditioned dinning area. In between breakfast and dinner time and also between dinner time and evening meals there were snacks available from the pool side bar, although a bit limited in choice they were still tasty.
The all inclusive drinks were available from 10.00 AM till midnight, you were allowed 2 X drinks per person but there was never a long wait to get drinks as there always seemed to be plenty of bar staff around. The only time you might queue is at the poolside bar that's because you were also queuing with People that wanted bar snacks. If you went into the bar at the Hotel there was often more bar staff then holiday makers.
Although the location of the Hotel may not appeal to every one it was ok for us, there was a a good free bus service every half hour and a “land train” also came every half an hour. You could walk to the the Sea front, a nice leisurely stroll would take about 10 mins. A fast walker could do it in 5.
We found there was no need to go to the sea front as shop prices are very dear besides there was a good supermarket across the way from the Resort and a good market (not to be missed) nearby every Tuesday morning.
A quick note on room 001 it really is in a horrible location, not only is it small but every one and there Dog walks by to get to the pool area, also be careful of all rooms on the 5th floor in the old (chalet) part of the building as they are attic type rooms small dark, dingy and very hot.
On the whole we were very pleased and very impressed with The Santa Susanna Resort and would definitely stay there again. Like I have already mentioned you get good value for money and unlike other People who gave negative comments don't expect a 5* hotel for the price of a 3* because you wont find it at this Resort in saying that This Hotel could easy hold its own and even beat a lot of 4* Hotels we have stayed in.

we arrived at hotel on the 17 sep, can not fault the week we had there, clean friendly hotel.Food was good all week, always warm and plenty of choice. If people complain about this hotel they should book a 5 star hotel and pay alot more money. I would recomend this hotel to anybody. Rooms were cleaned everyday, staff were helpful, 1km from beach with free bus all day everyday. If you want a cheap holiday book it with sun4u they were great

Came back from this hotel on Sunday.

Stayed there for 1 week, all inclusive, booked last minute through sun4udirect.
When we arrived at the airport, the transfer bus was 1.5hrs late and then we didn't set off for the resort for another half hour! So by this time I was already wishing I hadn't have bothered.
On arrival to the hotel, we drove down a dirt track, then parked up outside the hotel which is stuated next to a very busy dual carriageway. The hotel was very busy with guests and they were all outside on the veranda drinking and I couldn't work out where the door to reception was as there seemed to be three to choose from. A nice gentleman pointed us in the direction of a door.

Reception staff were very helpful and spoke excellent english, check in was very quick and efficient. The barstaff tended to be rude and arrogant.

The bedrooms were very small with not enough space to unpack your clothes and the beds extremely uncomfortable.
Plus side is, there was maid service every day with clean towels.

In the restaurant, the meat was under cooked almost all the time and just the usual boring plain food of chips and salad. The best meal was breakfast.
The food around the resort was a also pretty plain.

We went to the swimmingpool twice, but flies took over, so we spent all the time on the beach.

The hotel got very noisy of a night time with people coming back from town in the early hours and you could hear everything the walls were so thin.
We even had the fire alarm go off one night when a group of girls were told to quieten down.

The hotel is sandwiched between the busy main dual carriadgeway, a lidl's and two hypermarkets.

To get to the beach it's a 15min walk or a free bus is provided. These bus' were supposed to be run every half hour, but it varied as instead of coming straight back to the hotel or going straight to the beach, we found they took locals back home up the mountain a lot.

Once at the beach, you may aswell be in Skegness (though I think I would rather have been in Skegness). The shingle was extremely hard to walk on and there was a steep incline into the sea - not child friendly at all.

So all in all, not a great holiday and will not be going back - ever.
