We stayed at the Santa Susanna Hotel for 2 nights from the 29th September 2009. It was a late deal and we got bargain. We simply wanted a short break away and this all inclusive hotel looked to fit the bill.
Flight was stress free from East Midlands with Ryanair and the transfer was arranged prior to travel. We subsequently found out a taxi might have cost around 50 euros so the much cheaper pre-booked transfer was a sensible option, this took around 40 minutes by coach.
Upon arrival it was clear this was a very British hotel with karaoke blasting out when we got off the coach. We checked in with the English women on reception and got our all inclusive wrist bands. We then went to our room but the door key card needed re-coding, (much prefer normal keys).
Room was basic but clean, ours was 218 and did not have air con, I presume this is the same throughout. it was at the back of the hotel and probably best as it was away from the entertainment although this could still be heard at night slightly. The walls are very thin too and with the balcony door left open due to no air con the people next door could be heard. We had a double bed and two singles which we didn’t use along with a shower bath.
Food was ok and served in their restaurant below the hotel, which prevented flies and would probably be quite cool in the heat of summer. There was nothing cooked fresh but food was hot and well presented with a decent selection. Typical all inclusive food really. There was cooked breakfast or choice of cereals/toast etc and juice.
There were afternoon snacks served poolside, hotdogs, toasties and burgers with fries. These were quite nice but the miserable staff only allowed two items per person which prevents you taking food to your partner! Silly rule really and this also applies to drinks.
We only ate in the hotel for evening meal once and again it was as expected, nothing spectacular but perfectly edible. We went to the nearby Japanese the second night.
The lager on tap was Amstel and tasted good.
There was nightly entertainment laid on, including live music. The hotel is situated on a main busy road however and it is a good 10 minutes walk to the beach even for us in our mid twenties. There is a free shuttle train service to take you if you don't wish to walk.
Pool was clean and the hotel had designated smoking areas which was good for those trying to avoid being near cigarettes.
It had a games area with arcase machines and a couple of pool tables. This might be the ideal hotel for families with children on a budget wanting to stay in this area.
Overall the hotel and stay was as we expected for a cheap couple of days away. It is definitely at best a 3 star and I have stayed in other 3 stars which are nicer.
A hotel designed for the British in mind, don't go expecting too much, if you want 5 star then pay for it.
