“Brilliant Stay”
Reviewed April 5, 2013

We stayed at this hotel after winning on a scratch card(other words FREE accommodation). Down side was to attend a 2 hour chat about timeshare, which actually was fine. The guy was very informative and not at all pushy. As we have other commitments this was not for us, but could see the benefits
The staff are awesome. Nothing is too much trouble and go to great lengths to make sure that you have all you need. This is done with every curtiousy and with a smile. It also meant we could use the back gate which brought you onto the street with a few but good restaurants. You could also walk upto the main road with a gradual incline which is useful if you lack mobility.
The apartment we had was down near the pool so that we did not have to climb the steps which are many. Everything you could want for SC was available though we only made toast for breakfast and ate out. The pool bar was good food and reasonably priced.
As other people have mentioned the bus is not always on time but is cheap and goes to the main resorts.
Whilst there we won a free ticket for a boat trip to see whales and dolphins with food and drink
free. We paid for the other ticket but even so we would have been willing to pay for both tickets as it is a good trip out even though it was choppy the day we went.
If you want lots of night life this not the place for you, but if you want a relaxing holiday go for it.
We would definitely stay at this complex again and pay for it next time.
.

Room Tip: We had the sun until about 1 o'clock but then we used the pool bar which has sun all day

Won this week on a scratch card, took the week on the basis we would take part in a 90 minute timeshare presentation.

The area is well served by public transport, buses to los cristianos, los abrigos, el medano and silencio are frequent.

The complex is under the flightpath of the airport, planes can be seen and heard but not before 7 am or after 8pm, no bother.

Apartment 148B in block 9 was simple, tidy but dated, very clean with a small balcony facing the morning sun. TV showed BBC, ITV and 4 + sky sports. Radio and dvd also available.

Free wifi available in the reception area, good speed, paid wifi in the rooms, speed poor.

Pool and pool area well maintained, make sure you go early to avoid the towels.

The restaurant provided breakfast, lunch and dinner, all ok. Better meals to be had in the area like el nautico and bistro 27, both reasonably priced.

There are plenty of stairs, however, ramps were being installed and lifts are available.

The gardens and lawned areas were well maintained.

The staff were very friendly.

There's plenty of evening entertainment but did not attend so can't comment.

The timeshare apartments were outstanding, brand new furniture + air con, if not extorionate, beware the timeshare man.

Room Tip: ask for a room facing the pool and the afternoon and evening sun, unless you can get a room overlook...

I had been here before about 18 months ago and it had been a wee bit of a misnomer being advertised as a romantic holiday deal! I got the deal this time from the Happli website for just £59 for a week for up to 4 people! I had opted to come along in October 2012 but the company couldn't fit us in, so we asked if the could accommodate us for our joint birthdays in March 2013. Happli then went bust so we thought the apartment deal would not have been honoured but thankfully an e-mail came to us in Jan 2013 asking if we could confirm our flight details to them + our apartment was definitely booked. I did however, ask for a better view than the carpark and waste ground we had last time.
A couple of days prior to flying out, I received an e-mail from the sales team advising that we would be invited to a compulsory presentation in respect of the property as it is a timeshare (points system). It was too late to pull out so we arranged on arrival of the rep at the door the morning after arrival.
The apartment 215A was pretty much like the last one, dated but well equipped, but at least had a pool view. Though the angular corner balcony made it cramped out there for more than 2 to sit! The tiny washing rack which folded into the wall was ok for our stay.
The staff at the reception were very helpful, especially Billy and Maria.
As it was both mine and my husband's birthday while staying, they sent up lovely greetings each along with a bottle of sparkly wine (sweet sugarolly water so to speak but a nice touch). Though not prompted in any way, they must have realised from passports the dates. Thanks for that. Manuel poolside was very helpful daily, as was Lola in the poolside bar. Cheers guys - not sure if you ever get thanked on here!
Thankfully it was still out of season when we were here 15-22 March 2013, so being a week before Easter hols, not many kids around - a bonus!! The rooms are clean enough but we only had one service day during the break. We tended to take out our own rubbish. There were adequate towels etc though to last the whole period.
The main good point was the view from the balcony, especially on an evening as the sun was setting.
Although the balcony was tiny the view was vast and beautiful! Worth the hassle of the sales interview! We had our interview with Ray the new kid on the sales block here (though our age). He was a very nice man as was his boss, Gary. The ridiculous price they are asking for people to buy into this pretty delapidated property however of £17,000 plus nearly £1,000 a year maintenance fee was bordering on daylight robbery! They didn't even have the decency to wear a mask! Gary also offered us the trial price for 2 years of £3,700 for 3 weeks each year! I understand that they are trying to sell their deals but as we would never be guaranteed the standard of the show apartments, laying out that kind of money is absolutely ludicrous. Especially when the package deal market is so much more affordable!! Dream on guys! Anyway, the sales pitch lasting about 2 hours never spoiled our break but we certainly have seen everything we would ever want to now of Golf de Sur!
The area is pretty but still like the building site we veiwed 18 months ago. A lot more for sale properties than last time and no progress on the new builds since last time - still works in progress!
Amount of steps and stairs around were no problem to us but we could see there were a lot of aging people and people with buggies struggling! Be warned! Xx

Room Tip: Ask for infinity room if possible! They are the only one that have aircon and updated decor!

Overall I would actually rate our stay 4 stars, but I have scored it 3 because I feel that the average visitor will fall foul of the same issues we experienced but may not be as lucky as we were.

The resort itself is very nice. Exceptionally clean, good sized pool, plenty of sun beds (although would be a little overcrowded in busier times) and the restaurant is both high quality and reasonably priced.

However on arrival we were assigned to a very pokey little apartment, with a balcony about 4'x2' and to top it off, only a sofa bed! To be fair it may be my own fault for not reading the booking properly, it may well have said that it was a sofa bed but it certainly wasn't clear because I wouldn't have booked it if I'd known.

I went straight back to reception to complain and they insisted that my booking was for the studio apartment and all of these rooms had a sofa bed only. My "get out of jail free" card was that my reservation (made through Expedia) clearly stated that it was a double room, not a twin room. The sofa bed was not a double, but opened out into 2 singles. I wasn't prepared to shove 2 singles together and pretend it was a double so I insisted that something be done. After a few hours of waiting and getting frustrated, the gentleman on reception moved us to a fantastic apartment with a view of the pool and ocean, and a proper double bed! As I say, we had to wait a while for this room and I'm sure that not everyone who takes issue with the crappy apartments will have the same luck, hence the lower rating.

Anyway, from there on it was plain sailing. Lovely hotel, slightly older age group which suited us down to the ground (only early 30s but wanted a quiet peaceful break).

Plenty of restaurants within walking distance, although beware there is no beach nearby. You would have to take a bus trip to find a beach, the coastline beside the Royal Park Albatros is black and rocky. Wasn't a problem for us though, the pool was fine.

Special mention to the gentleman on reception (can't remember his name). Tall guy with a goatee beard and perfect English. He was extremely helpful and friendly.

Room Tip: Be careful what you book, and make completely sure you know what you're getting!

Myself and my partner had a week at the Royal Park Hotel (Apartments) from the 9th March this year, and have mixed reviews.

I will start with the positives. Golf del Sur is perfect if you are looking for a relaxing break. The area is quiet, well maintained and clean. There are lots of lovely walks close by, especially towards the Marina, where you will be spoilt for choice with quaint restaurants overlooking the Marina and behold.

The Royal Park Hotel itself is very clean and again well maintained. The apartment we upgraded too was on the top floor. It was spacious and incorporated a lovely balcony overlooking the gardens which were extremely lush and well presented. The pool area was cheerful with enough beds for everyone. There was also a restaurant on site which sold a variety of foods and drinks; it also provided entertainment most evenings to its diners.

A bottle of Champaign was also left in our room on my partner’s birthday, which we thought was a lovely gesture.

Now for the negatives:
We booked our holiday through a ‘low cost company’, when we arrived at the Royal Park we were given keys to an apartment on the ground floor (even though we had requested a higher floor with a view), the apartment was very small, dark and dingy, which lead out to a extremely small balcony which was very claustrophobic. However it was very clean, but not want we had wanted or expected.

We were both very disappointed and went straight to the reception desk, we enquired if we could be moved to a better apartment. The lady on reception was a little curt and said that she was unable to tell if a better apartment was free and to come back the following morning. Which we did, we were greeted by a different person (male) who was friendly and helpful explaining that until he had made enquiries as to the rooms which will become available due to the booking out that day, he would be unable to advise us until after 1.00pm if anything was available.

So at 1.00pm we returned to reception. The same person advised us that there wasn’t any better apartments available free of charge, but could upgrade us, with a cost of 120.00 euro. We had a look at the new apartment and agreed to upgrade and move in that day. As explained earlier we were very pleased with the new accommodation; however in the kitchen area there wasn’t any room to put your food, without taking numerous over stocked pots and pans out of the cupboards. Also there wasn’t a drawer for cutlery!! so we left the knives and forks in a tray on top of the microwave!, considering the size of the apartment the kitchen was totally disjointed. However it didn’t spoil our stay.

Our return flight was at 6.30pm on the 16th, we were advised on ‘checking in’ that we had to leave our apartment by 10.00am. The coach was due to pick us up at 3.50pm which would leave us 6 hours without a room. We asked if we could extend the room until 3.00pm, and another lady on reception said that we could have the room until 1.00pm only with an extra charge of 47 euro just for 3 hours extension period !! we thought this was totally out of order, and money grabbing!! especially when we had already spent 120 euro’s on an upgrade.

So as you have read, we had mixed reviews, but we would certainly return to the area of Golf del Sur.

Room Tip: Higher floors overlooking the pool area.

We are glad you enjoyed your stay overall. Many hotels have a standard check-out time of between 10am to 12pm; this is to give the chance to clean the rooms/apartments for new arrivals. Our Reception does offer a baggage storage free of charge and our complex offers a variety of facilities while you wait for your airport transfer – somewhere to eat, toilets, seating areas. Your comments on the kitchen in your upgraded apartment have been passed to the relevant member of our Management Team. Thank you for your feedback.

This resort has 3 levels of apartment and we exchanged our 5 star Malta unit for this holiday and got the bottom level of apartment, Interval International say that is the only level that is in their system available for exchange. The worse thing is that all around the pool area they have put their top level "Infinity" apartments, which we had to walk past every day. The pool area is too small for the amount of apartments there are and there is a pool attendant that we called Hitler that keeps going round lining up the sunbeds if they are not in use, and every afternoon lines them up like lines of soldiers ready to go in a sardine tin. The snacks we had at the poolside restaurant/bar were ok, but its not nice to see the prices listed for the commoners like us and the cheaper "Infinity" prices, what they should do is give the "Infinity" people a discount card like our home resort does and only show one price to all. I wasn't too impressed either when we ordered some food at lunchtime while sitting outside and then a workman comes along and gets a drill type tool by the side of us and starts removing one of the concrete blocks and then fits an electric box there,he shouldn't have been allowed to do that while we were eating there already and it wasn't safe either as bits of concrete were flying around and could quite easily have gone in our eyes. This is also not a good place to go if you don't like lots of steps,I have no idea how someone in a wheelchair would move around the resort.

Thanks for your feedback. The Royal Park Albatross is built into a hill and we do high-light the fact it is not ideal for people with mobility issues. We have noted all your comments and will pass them to the management team. The Royal Park Albatross is a 3 star property therefore not comparable to a 5 star property; however it is a well run and well maintained complex.

This is the third time we have visited and the whole place looks like it needs some TLC. The staff are very helpful and always speak. Lots of sunbeds but all very close together. Apartment was meant to be top class but there were faults e.g. cupboard doors not shutting properly, washing machine switch was dodgy, only one sunbed on balcony. Right on flight path so be prepared for early call at 0700 evry morning.

Room Tip: Ask for a balcony which gets sunshine.
