The receptionists and shop were unfriendly, no one said we had to pay extra for safe, pool towels - that is usually free comparing to the mariott vacation club of which we swapped this for. We had a 2 bed apartment with 4 balconies so was beautiful but looking a little tired, but we had a wonderful time there and would probably go back now we know what to expect. The hotel was a bit of a maze and if you dont like going up and down steps to get anywhere - ie the pool, the bar etc then its not for you.
But it was right on the sea front and lots of little bars to walk to each evening.

Just returned from a fabulous 2 week stay at the Santa Barbara which we booked through an RCI exchange.
On arrival we were greeted by the Diamond resorts team at the hotel and were given refreshments while waiting to check in which normally would have been 5.00pm but we arrived at approx 1.00pm and our room was already available which was great.

On getting to our designated room, my wife and I was very dissapointed with what we had been given as we felt that the room was small, had no great outlook from the balcony which was also small, and as we walked in caught a wiff of something not to nice.

I immeadiatly rang reception saying that as we were staying for 2 weeks we felt the room was to small for us because as with children of 9 and 6 they would have needed a bit of their own space, and that the room had an unpleasant smell to it. The receptionist said that we only booked a 1 bedroom appartment, I said to to her after reading the reviews about how spacious the rooms were, and seeing some of the lovely photos previous vistors had taken, we were not to impressed with what we had been given. I also explained that if we had the oppotunity to have upgraded to a 2 bed appartment we would have done so, but at the time of booking, strict occupancy rules were being applied.
After about 5 minutes the receptionist rang back and said that there was another room we could look at (606) which turned out to be fantastic and just what we needed. the room had great views over San Miguel Marina which was 5 min stroll away and out to sea. The appartment was spotlessly clean, had 2 balconys 1 from the bedroom and the other of the lounge which made the kids and us happy to get our own space and as the appartment faced approximately south west meant that we had the sun most of the day.
I have to say now, that we were very immpressed with the way the hotel staff had handled our complaint and felt that nothing was to much trouble for them especially when they said that all they wanted was for us to enjoy our stay which we felt was genuine sentiment.

Anyway enough of that stuff, after getting our bearings on the place which can take a day or two, we found the place to be superb in every way, spotlessly clean, lovely pools that our kids enjoyed immensly I have to say though that the big pool was very cold getting in but after a couple of minutes or so was ok. The pool bar was great too, the menu was what we expected and i would say better than a lot of other places we stayed at, the prices we found were reasonable and had an happy hour from 4.30 to 5.30 which a lot of people took advantage of, the staff were great too, very freindly and great with the kids and nothing was too much trouble.
Eating out in the area we found to good and no complaints. San Blas, a village down the coast was lovely, it used to take us about 20-25min walk, there you can find all the bars which serve some great food and have nightly live entertainment with some places doing an early bird type of menus for families.
As we didnt hire a car, we found the supermarket in San Blas reasonable compared with the one at the hotel and across the road. What we done was to stock up up and then get a taxi back at a cost of about 3euros. you were actually saving that several times over than shopping locally.
As for things to see / do, if you got kids, a trip to the medevil night is a must, jousting and knights sword fighting, you get to meet the king of the castle and all that stuff. A trip to Loro Park up the north of the Island is great too, killer whales, dolphins and sealion shows will have the kids attention and all set in a zoo / park type enviroment. Great.

I would say that if you wanted to explore the island at your own speed, then a car is a must, but we were quite happy doing local public transport and really didnt want to drag the kids all over the place where they would have been bored stiff. That was our choice.

Coming back to the hotel facilities, I must say our kids loved the kids club, allways something for them to do, the animation team there worked so hard to get them involved and adults too with regular periods of games and water polo. Mini discos at night from 8.30-10.00pm kept the kids occupied followed by a show. I have got nothing but praise for the team led by Mikey, YEAH MAN !! , Sorin and the kids club leader Helen who if you read this THANKS GUYS!!

All in all a great holiday, at a great hotel, with freindly, nice people what more could you ask for.

We were extremely fortunate to be staying here when the volcanic ash disruptions first occured. Having discovered that our flights back to the U.K. had been cancelled we returned to the Santa Barbara who let us return to our old apartment and made us extremely welcome. They let us use their phones and computers without charge so that we could try to book new flights and contact insurance companies etc. and went to great lenghts to help us. One of the entertainments team worked on her day off to cheer up the children who were quite worried at the prospect of being 'trapped' and unable to get home for maybe weeks. All the staff worked incredibly hard to help us and I can not praise them enough.
The Santa Barbara is beautiful and our apartment was massive with great sea views. It is kept incredibly clean and everyone seemed very friendly. It is a great place to go to relax.
I would recommend having a car as there is not very much to see or do outside of the Santa Barbara although there are plenty of taxis and a fairly regular bus service.

Very impressed with this diamond resort as we were on a free week for the holiday club we were somewhat worried and did not know what to expect and but were very impressed with the standards.
Food The Little Italy Restaurant reasonably priced and very good quality.
The pool side bar cheap reasonably priced food nothing special but good all the same at the price.
Reception and conciege very helpful and gave free internet and phone during the vulcanic ash problem the rep did everything he could including phone calls everyday to us and Monarch he was a real friendl at the end, Monarch were not very good in the crisis may i add.

Nearby was a cheap irish bar the wildgeese 6 euros for scampi and chips fish and chips etc and all the football to watch just over the road.
pool was cold but large and clean.
nice walks along front of hotel over looking the sea although it has black sand and rocks and is good for crabbing.
parking was free on bit of gravel although i think it was 16 euro for week underground if you wanted to park underground.
Good for golf as courses walking distance.
Must do Mount Teidi although cold at the top, Siam Park is a great water park and its sister park on the other side of the island LORO Park was quality. We found Easter a good time to go as very quiet but still warm. If you see a rep ask for Brian he was very good tell him Neil and Sharon sent you.

This is a very nice hotel, and probably the best value on Tenerife. The front desk staf will help you with anything!! They are amazing. In the room (ours was a 2 person) you have your own kitchen and a very nice bathroom. it is very compact though. The bed folds up over the couch and you have to move stuff around to pull it down. I will say that the bed was very comfortable. The staff was amazing. It was surprisingly quiet, I slept very well. The area is not bad but could be better, it is far from everything for sightseeing. There are some shops and some restaurants a very short walk away. There is no beach to lay out in the sun, however there is an amazing pool area. The construction next door is a bit scary at night, however the walk along path near the rocky shore is gorgeous. There are many stores nearby to buy your food, which saves a ton of money. However you will need a car if you stay here. You will have to drive to Playa de las Americas or better yet Playa de la Duque for some sun. I would say this is one of the nicer hotels I stayed at, but I would only recommend it with a car. However I think the only way to really see Tenerife would be with a car. If I golfed this place would be ideal. My only huge complaint is the hotel store is very expensive and the laundry machines cost 4E per load, a bit ridiculous!

Travelled at the end of March to this hotel stopping 9x nights. The reception was very efficient though had to wait an hour of so before we could check in but did so by 2pm, having arrived at the airport at 11.10hrs, then travelled via a nearby supermarket .The hotel had secure luggage storage which was handy as we had just bought in some supplies as well for the room. There are lots of things organised in and around the hotel, plenty of places to walk to, restauarants to eat at or just bars within a 20minute walk where you could relax, and have a quiet drink. The room we had was a basic studio appartment with bed pulled down from wall but more than adequate for our requirements. The kitchen area was great though compact we made several meals here between us, though with both moving about the small area you had to be careful who breathed and when!! The room had a balcony overlooking the pool, and sea area which was fantastic, one of the best hotels I have stopped in in Tenerife. Can recomend this hotel to anyone, and if you do not want a car there is a bus service which runs through Golf del Sur, to Los Cristinos, and beyond and is punctual. Nearby San Blas is a small shopping complex with bars, restaurants and can be walked to in 15mins, and if you want to walk a litlle further (25mins) you can reach nearby Los Abrigos, though I think the restaurants there are overated and overpriced, a bit orientated towards the tourist trade. If you want good seafood restaurants there are 2 or three in Tajao (the ones in the village which are frequented by the locals) a little north along the motorway back passed the airport about a 20minute drive which are excellent. Cannot sing the praises any more than have done , I have stopped in many hotels which state are 4* but this one fits the bill and even the bar has a reasonably priced tariff which is better during happy hour!!
