Brilliant stay for our honeymoon. Highly recommended. Great staff. Entertainment is funny. Good laugh. We had the all inclusive which if its affordable (never done it before, first time) its worth it.

My husband and myself just spent 10days at the Gloria Palace Royal. We chose this hotel because of the photos and facilities. The hotel is extremely tastefully done, with exeptional cleanliness and every nook and cranny having beautiful arranged cactus and flowering shrubs and not a white plastic chair insight even on your balcony there are wicker and glass table and chairs..I cannot fault the hotel decor and settings at all, however when we arrived the hotel was extremely quiet even though there were a lot of people there..it seemed to be lacking in atmosphere and people were whispering rather talking to each other and looked rather miserable, even when we passed in the corridors there wasnt the usual 'Hello' it was like a library wherever we went which we found very uncomfortable there was no music playing around the hotel and near the pools it was so low you had to strain to hear it, you could hear a pin drop. The entertainment bar was the same which really put the downers on it for me as even though we went away for a relaxing break it was so quiet it was actually stressful, even the staff looked unmotivated. Everyone went straight to bed after the outside entertainment was finished and the upstairs bar was closed until October? Even though there were activites posted on the board we did not see any, they were not easlily visible you had to go and look for them....? then we were presented with the weekly survey from people from their head office at the restaurant one morning, and as if by magic all the things I noted needed improving were done overnight, there was music in reception the pool bar/s music turned up everyone just seemed to cheer up including the staff there was a lovely atmosphere, only trouble for us it was 2days before we came home so was too late to really appreciate it.

To sum up:

Rooms: 5* great furnishings, fold away kitchenettes with microwave small fridge, and crockery,(comp tea coffee etc) seperate bath, shower (with comp toiletries) even separate loo room. Balcony is very big with beautiful wicker furniture, comfy beds with throw pillows etc and large glass sliding door wardrobes.

Restaurant: Fantastic food never had better..steaks etc..Baby potatoes or 'chips' salads,Veg, desserts beautifully presented, cheese biscuits, fruits all in abundance..we were H/B but had lunch one day too..and still beautiful..oh and men have to wear long trousers to dinner

Entertainment: Not very good Im afraid usual mini disco (to be expected) Great outside acts brought in..no compare or audience interaction..just a lady singing with an accompanied pianoist, then a CD for the rest of the night..we got Elvis all night on our first night, Michael Buble on our second, after that we went to the Europa Centre 5mins Taxi- 3 euros to Barbarcoa (British Bar) for great entertainment with compare live acts lots of laughter and fun..also Puerto Rico great Irish pub called Harp bar 4 euro taxi from hotel.

Staff: all very professional but left me a bit confused as SOME would be smiling and sayng hello one day and not the next?? more geared to the spanish that stay (quite a lot of them) some staff were execptional and a couple quite abrupt..my first night there as a smoker I sat outside at a table on my own, even though it was empty the Head waiter came out and said sharply.."Outside table smoking only" which he demostrated with a pointing finger to the next table about 1.5 foot away even though all the tables were outside??? by the way if you smoke you have to sit outside where you cant see the entertainment..not that you would miss much but they could imrove that as they have the space.

Location: Be prepared to climb..seriously I am fit and do regular workouts and the hill down to the beach (after you get out of the lift) is VERY steep coming back up I would say if you had any walking difficulties or breathing problems..forget it..there are also several roads to cross before you actually get to the beach. Dont even try to walk to the Europa centre (shops and bars) unless you are an olympian

Beach: Beautiful to look at very sharp underfoot so wear some footwear, lots of shops with the usual towels snorkels, beads..but you can also get milk, water cigarettes and drink there too with endless places to eats one after the other all asking you to eat with them.

They do have a cockroach problem in gran canaria because of the climate, although we did not see a one at the hotel or the cafe bars at the beach, but we went to the Amodres Beach Bar at the end of the sea walkway and one crawled up my leg just before our meal, and other customers were doing a lot of stamping too.

I have tried to be very fair in my review, on the whole we had a pleasant enough time because we make the most of things our selves, but I do feel the hotel being too quite at the start of our holiday spoiled the atmosphere for us so only for that reason I would not like to chance a return visit, so will go somewhere a little livelier in future so we can have options as it is not that easy to get out and about from this hotel without a taxi

Room Tip: Block 4 over looks the pool & Beach

Just back from a lovely two weeks hb at this hotel Very relaxing break with our 3 kids aged 8 6 and 1, rooms very clean and spacious with lovely views room also had microwave and fridge.fantastic freshly made cocktails by edwardo in the bar near reception and friendly helpful staff all round especially in the spa kirstin and Danielle were great. Unfortunately the animation staff in our first week seemed to be going through a transition just solemn looking staff in the kids area with very few activities on our second week the team changed to a different company and intend to provide more activities this was only getting off the ground while there however the people very friendly izze Esther .Caroline and co thanks for making our little boys birthday special too. While there minidisco moved to 830 and the show at 10 which we found very late because some for kids such as parrot show the previous time of 930 to 1030 much better .

We are so hapy to have chosen this Gloria Palace Royal Hotel, (not to be confused with the other Gloria Palace hotel, round the corner nearer to PR)
The hotel was very clean in all public areas, pool, bars, restuarants, our room was spotless and maids cleaned everyday.
the spa area is lovely and well looked after and we went most days.
The food was fantastic, something for everyone, usually on half board we go out a couple of times as we get bored easily but not here we ate at the hotel everynight, fresh steaks made on the grill as you wait. Breakfast were good too.
We were well looked after and all of the staff went out of their way to make sure our stay was perfect, just what we needed on our honeymoon.
we even got a survey sent to us to ask if we were enjoying our stay and if there was anything at all they could do, we asked for a kettle and got it the very next day
.We enjoyed our stay and cant wait to go back again in the future.Thank you Gloria Palace Royal for our fantastic honeymoon!!

Room Tip: We stayed in block 4 which was great.

Visited for 7 days and this hotel is not a good hotel. I upgraded to the all inclusive offer and it was not worth it. The food was dreadful, food undercooked, basic, dirty dinning area, not good value at all. The staff are rude and arrogant, too, they seem to go out of their way to avoid serving you if you are all inclusive. Wine is un drinkable. bottles of cider are 4.25 per bottle which is not included in all inclusive. Pool area is dirty with missing tiles and when we stayed there a set of steps had been removed from one of the pools which left very dangerous metal stick out. A lady who was receiving medical treatments fainted in the restuarant and the manager asked her to leave as he said she was drunk. We where over charged on many occasions and when we complained we where treated like we where trouble makers. The beach of amadores is also dirty, with trash all over the beach, beach is a good 15 mins walk from the hdirtyotel. The entertainment is beyond words, the lady who sings, knows how to clear a room. The spa area is also dirty with missing tiles, quite expensive too, €20 per person for two hours. Staff in the spa are very nice, the lifts on one side of the building where always breaking down, particulary the glass lift which runs from the top of the hotel down to the beach, when it did work it took for ages to reach the bottom, well worth the wait though. I have stayed at the other floria palace in st. augustin and it is a far better hotel, which I would recommend. If you do decide to stay at this hotel I recommend you do b&b and eat out at St Mogan, nice restuarants there and you can get the bus there for €3 one way and the ferry back to porto rico which is only five mins walk from the hotel. All in all I was very disappointed in this hotel and I got the general feeling a lot of other people did too. Lots of people I spoke with said they would never return, one such couple had visited 14 times and this would be there last.

Room Tip: All rooms have a sea view which is a possitive

The cleanliness of the hotel was excellent, the room was very comfortable with comfortable furniture on the balcony; bathrobes and beach towels were supplied.
The week leading up to Easter the hotel became full but the only time you noticed this was at meal times, however we never had to wait for a table the food and service was very good, we had intended eating out occasionally but the food was so good we did not bother.
Sun beds were plentiful; the lower pool where the children's pool was did get very busy but the upper pool was empty most of the time and was ideal for us as we had no children with us.
Evening entertainment was not particularly good, nor the animation team and the bar area became deserted by about 22.30 which seemed quite strange. for any entertainment after this you would need to walk about 20 minutes or get a cab into Puerto Rico where it was much more lively.

I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel the staff were very helpful and friendly we went fully inclusive which was good, value through Sovereign, at the hotel you had the option to upgrade to fully inclusive but it was more expensive than booking it in advance.. We all had a very good, relaxing holiday.

We went for a week all inclusive. We had our 2 year old with us and had a great time. You start your holiday checking in and are given a lovely glass of bubbly. We had huge room with 2 single beds pushed together. Now people say they move apart well if you take a look they have breaks on the feet just check to see if they are turned on, not that hard to solve. We also had a pull out sofa bed which was nice and low for our 2 years old he loved it. We have a microwave great if you have a baby and a fridge. They bathroom had a bath and a seperate shower so easy for children.

The pools are lovely and the pictures dont show how nice they really are. The kids pool was great fun and they had a little playground next to it. Also had toys for the pool. There is an indoor spa which you can take kids into until midday it is very hot in there great for babies. There is also a kids club for over 4's but you can take toddlers in to play in the ball pit and watch the films, do colouring play with toys etc. In the evening there is a kids disco which my little one loved.

We never made it to the entertainment as we had to put the little one to bed but as we had all inclusive we used to get a few snacks a couple of bottles of wine and sit on the big balcony watching the sea and just relaxing which was great.

There is a TV in the room with cartoon channel and a movie channel as well as the news channels all in english. We took a portable DVD and connected it to the TV which was fine.

The food was great always something for all of us to eat. I read on here that you had to pay extra for steaks etc which is rubbish all food is included the only extras you pay are if you wish to go to the other restuarant which I can not see why as the view is better from the main resturant and some of the drinks are extra but it is very clear and easy to understand.

The staff are lovely. Normally I would always have one or two things I think they could improve on but this hotel is great. We did not have any rush to get a sun bed or anything.
I would go back to this hotel in a shot.
