My wife and i stayed here for one week and really enjoyed it. Rooms were the best we have had for AI as there was a kitchen and fridge, no air con, only fans, but they did the job. Food was very good for 3 star and each night was a different theme. Pool area was quite busy during the day but we found a terrace behind the restaurant which was great for catching the sun. Its a pity there weren`t sunbeds already there as i had to get them from the pool area and i am sure if there were more people would use this area. Drinks self service so you could make them as strong/weak as you liked, great idea and not much queueing. Definately would return as for what we paid is was excellent value. If you do go visit the Barbacoa in the Europa centre, ChubbyGC and Trixy Lyx well worth seeing.

Room Tip: All rooms have sea views. Rooms beginning with 2 and 5 have there own private balcony, but these are...

Just back from Altamadores, this hotel is fabulous, spotless clean in all areas, views down to beach amazing! Food everyday lovely with plenty of choice even for the fussiest of eaters, different theme every night eg, chinese, italian, barbeque and canarian nights! rooms cleaned everyday bar sunday, we even had sunloungers on our balcony, so if you wanted quiet time away from the pool you could relax down at your room! Jamie kept us entertained during the day and night with fun and games and music! Only downside to this hotel is its a steep walk downhill to beach and uphill to shopping areas! but position of hotel brill for seaviews! I would definately recommend this hotel for an all inclusive holiday, bar was self service and slushie machine went down a treat in the hot sunshine! pool area in full sunshine all day long!

We have just returned from a weeks stay at the Altamadores. We are a young couple who just wanted to get some chill time in the sun. We arrived late afternoon and checked in no problem and were given a room on the first floor. Our room was great, it was spacious, clean and we had a huge balcony with a fantastic view. Our balcony had tables, chairs and sun loungers in which could be used during the day as we did get the sun on our balcony. Room had two fans, which worked ok, and we seemed to sleep fine throughout the week.

When we went to the food/bar area our first thoughts were that it seemed quite small, however there were never a problem getting a seat through the week indoors, but outside seemed to get far more busier and if arriving after 7 it was impossible to get an outdoor table. Cons of the food area was that it was very hot. Hardly any cooling aids. I think there was one tiny fan (smaller than the ones in our rooms!!!). The table cloths were also quite sticky, which isn't most pleasant when trying to eat. Self service bar was good, and we found the selection of local alcohol very good, no complaints there, also plenty of choice. It was great to be able to make your own drinks to your liking, with no queuing. Food was ok, and only just ok. There weren't much choice at all throughout the week. I am not a fussy eater, but some of the dishes just looked like dogs food. There were some good food, but limited choice and we did manage to find a meal every night.

Pool area is nice, but people did hog the sunbeds throughout the week as people left their towels on them 24/7. Table Tennis was good. Area is very clean, and its cleaned every morning. Slushes ran out very quick and didnt seem to be available after they had ran out.

Walk to the beach was nice, walk back up is a bit of a killer (and we are a fit couple).

This is a gorgeous area to stay in and would return to Puerto Rico in the future, but probably not this hotel. We have stayed at better for less money.

Aqualand is a must!! Great day out. Bus journey is not too bad, nice to see the island a bit.

We didn't find the staff very friendly at reception or the restaurant.(Except for Jamie who is the entertainer). However one of the male staff seemed to take an interest in my other half and asked for a photo with her and also asked to get a drink with her after he finished work. So maybe keep an eye on your daughters because we dont look much older then 18.

We don't have high expectations on holidays so this is a genuine and fair review of what we experienced.

Just back from this accomodation in general all was good , clean room lovely on 2nd floor , no air con which was terrible for sleeping , food ok staff friendly , only problem people were let keep beach towels on sun loungers 24-7 this didn't give others a chance because there was about 70 loungers and hotel holds about 200 people, this has put me off going again , I would have told reception staff but it was a bit of anything goes so didn't bother

We were really looking forward to our stay at this hotel after reading so many good reviews, however our expectations were soon short-lived. First impressions were not good at all after entering our room which was very small and had a very strong smell of cigarettes throughout and the couches seemed wet and dirty. We complained to the hotel and this was immediately remedied by the cleaners who were more than happy to change our curtains and used a lemon spray around the apartment, which did help.

Our first trip up to the pool area was greeted by two English 'models' ; parading around advertising beach clothes? , with a guy on a mega-phone shouting for everyone to buy and not miss out on this great deal!. It did feel like we were on the set of Only Fools Horses. Not a good scene for relaxing by the pool!! On the plus side, there were plenty of sun-loungers and umbrellas by the pool.

There is only one bar, which is also situated by the pool and is in the same room where the food is served. The local alcohol provided (vodka, gin, rum, whisky) were the cheapest brands available and I did not see any of these brands on sale in any of the shops in Gran Canaria. Needless to say we did end up ill after drinking them and also heard other guests complaining about the quality of the vodka, which had also made them ill. The lager was fine, Sangria was 'OK'. We ended up buying our own alcohol in the end, the drinks were that bad.

The food was a real mix of good to incredibly disappointing. It was also incredibly uncomfortable to eat in there due to the heat and the fact that they only had one tiny fan working at any time. The outside tables were often taken up. The hotel provides the following food nights: Pan Asian, Chinese, Italian, BBQ, Canarian and Mixed buffet on 2 nights a week. It was hard to tell the difference between most nights though.

BBQ night was good, definitely the best, lovely grilled chicken. Some nights provided only chicken nuggets, plenty of chips and the odd vegetable or some random Chinese dish. Lunch-time was better than dinner on more than a few occasions, but the salad seemed to sit out all day. Ice cream ran out and was not replaced. Nothing was replaced beyond 9pm at night, pending the close at 9:30, not good if you are eating late. Italian night was awful, great if you fancy eating 4 types of pasta and not much else, (no pizza to be seen). Breakfast was overall not bad, providing cooked breakfast materials and cereal etc. However, we experienced tummy troubles on more than a few occasions.

We had a view of Amadores beach from our room, which was nice to see. We did not seem to get much sun on our terrace. The rooms had fans in them and not aircon, which we were aware of on booking but the heat was awful some nights and we did not sleep well at all. You need to sleep with all the windows open to get a chance of half a decent sleep. One of the beds was half-sloping and there was a blood mark on the wall. TV was coin operated. The shower room looked awful but it actually was a really good shower. The towels were rough old orange cloths, replaced twice a week, not good standards for a four star hotel... The hotel on the whole did seem to run along a 'cost saving theme', from the standard of the rooms to the food/drink and not to mention the entertainment, which was awful. Bingo and Karaoke every single night, with a few odd acts thrown in, such as amateur plate acrobatics one of the nights and a Benny Hill-themed stand-up comedian on another.

Cockroaches were seen near room doors and one did come in to our room one night. We did stay at a different hotel in Puerto Rico during our stay, which incidentally did not have any bug problem.

Gran Canaria itself is a lovely island offering great mountain views, lovely beaches and friendly locals. It is worth exploring, highly recommend Pico de la Nieves on a non-cloudy day. Also recommend is the water park - Aqualand, which is a fantastic day out and totally worth it. We hired a car from PlusCarRental who were fantastic, the rental for the week was only €63 and fuel is €1.04 a litre, so worth hiring a car and worked out better for us than booking transfers.

Overall our stay at the Altamadores was very much a let-down for us in terms of what we paid, offering little value for money. The main disappointment for us was how 'un-Spanish' the hotel was; if you want to go on holiday to experience England then book this hotel. While we would love to return to Puerto Rico in the future, it will not be to the Altamadores.

My husband and I arrived at Altamadores on 17th June and stayed for 10 nights. Friendly reception staff booked us in quickly and gave us a map showing where our apartment was. We were on the third floor, very close to the restaurant, bar and pool in room 303, right next to the children's playground! We weren't too happy about this at first because we thought it would be noisy early morning, but it turned out okay, never heard a thing!

Our apartment was one of three that are over two floors - downstairs was the living / kitchen area and a toilet, upstairs was a spacious bedroom with patio doors (but no balcony to walk out on to) and a bathroom. The bathroom was like a sauna because it didn't have a window or an extractor fan. The rooms weren't air conditioned (we knew this because of other reviews) but there were a couple of fans on the wall that helped. We had to leave the patio door open during the night though because the fans on their own weren't enough to stay comfortable.

The hotel is very clean and staff are really friendly, especially in the restaurant. Breakfast was 8am to 10.30am, lunch was 12.30pm - 4.30pm and evening meal was 6pm to 9.30pm. So you definitely never went hungry! Evening meals are themed, for example, chinese, barbeque.

The bar is self service for alcohol (oh yeah)! and soft drinks. It's open from 11am - 11pm. The lager is Estrell. Like Emily B (previous review) I was also disappointed that there was no rose wine!! But there was everything else, so can't really complain. You can also get tea, coffee and ice cream too.

There's a supermarket right next door to reception at the hotel. If you want a cold bottle of water for the walk down to the beach you can get one in here for 38 cents!

Pool area is great. It's clean and there's plenty of sun loungers. On certain days you can get a pedicure or fish spa, a massage, buy clothes when the 'fashion show' comes by and get some suncare advice.

It's a 15 minute slow walk down to Altamadores Beach which is lovely. There are shops, bars and restaurants down there - you can't tell this when you look down from the hotel. To the left of the beach is a walkway along the sea to Puerto Rico which takes about 20/25 minutes. It's a really nice walk. We walked back to Altamadores Beach but got a taxi up the hill to the hotel for 3 euros because it's a BIG hill and it was really hot.

Jamie who does the entertainment is friendly and he gets people playing table tennis, killer pool etc. He hosts quizes and karaoke too. We enjoyed some games of bingo during our stay and we NEVER play bingo! There was some kind of show every night at 9pm - singers, parrot show etc.

The Europa Centre is nearby with shops, bars and restaurants - it's a walk up a steep hill, or five minutes and 3 euros in a taxi. There's a similar commercial place in Puerto Rico too.

I would recommend a trip to Mogan, a nearby harbour town. Lovely place. There's a market but I can't remember what day. It costs 14 euros in a taxi but you can get a bus from Altamadores Beach for about 2 euros if you can be bothered to wait.

All in all this was a brilliant place to stay, we met some lovely people and had lots of laughs. We would definitely go there again. In fact, looking out the window at the rain that hasn't stopped since we got home, I really wish we were still there!!!!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view.

Just returned home after 2 weeks staying at this hotel. First impressions were good, staff at reception are friendly although 1 or 2 cant speak english! Room was nice very clean when we arrived, towels and linen was changed every other day. No air con in room but 2 fans which were just as good. Only prob with room was 1 cockroach! Pool area was nice very clean pool a good size and always plenty of sun loungers whatever time of day. The food was good i wouldnt say excellent just because some things werent to my taste, sometimes not a lot of choice and sometimes a little cold (but there was a microwave) i have to say i enjoyed most of the evening meals - they have themed nights such as italian chinese and the bbq which is gorgeous. Breakfast the usual cooked breakfast cereals fruit etc. Must mention i failed to see tea coffee and cakes between 5 and 6. Drinks were great self serve bar you can always help yourself between 11am and 11pm, but dissapointed there was no rose wine! Staff in the restaurant always very polite too.Jamie the entertainer such a lovely lad made an effort to get to know all guests and did a great job with the entertainment, just the usual really karaoke, parrot show, magic show, bingo, quiz etc. There was no kids club if you do have kids but jamie does acitivites through the day around the pool area. If you want to go to the beach it can be a bit of a hike as its on a hill! But taxi there is only 3-4 euros. There were two shopping centres the europa and the commerical. Europa about 3 euros or 20 minute walk but the commercial is too far to walk about 5 euros. Both have restaurants and gift shops but commerical has alot more bars and is great for nightlife! The weather was hot 40 degrees each day but towards end of holiday lost the sun as the sand from the dessert blocked it, still hot enough to lie out though. Overall i found this a fantastic holiday everything was good and people who complain what do you expect for the price you pay! Definetly go back and recomend to others!
