“Loved it, would stay again”
Reviewed September 2, 2011

Myself and 2 friends stayed in a studio apartment (block B) during August 2011. It was small but adequate, spotlessly clean and a good location. The reception staff and night porters are really helpful. Taxis available within minutes around the clock.

We ate in the restaurant at night twice, it was quiet but the food was nice. Breakfast once, it was good.

We didn't make use of the pool because we hit the beach every day but it looked nice and clean.

There is a supermarket on site, very handy for the few essentials and booze. its apparently pricier than shops in the town centre but it was fine for us.

Couple of down points are we seen a few dead cockroaches in the corridors but never seen any in the rooms, also there are a couple of stray cats wandering out by the balcony so we didn't like to leave the door open when snoozing and with no air con it was quiet warm. Also 3 mornings out of 7 we where woken up about 10:30 (we'd been out late) by noise... gardener, cleaner, handyman etc.

I would however stay here again, it was lovely.

Very clean apartment, staff very friendly, top pool bar food is very good, I would not use the bar Long Play the bar man changes the rules to suit himself "Poster saying Happy Hour 3 to 5" but when he has you in the bar said only some drinks can be in Happy Hour. The hotel let us keep our room till we were leaving at 4 in the afternoon, I would stay here again. Enjoyed my stay in this Aparthotel

Room Tip: Ask when booking for Garden room its better then a pool veiw

You get what you p;ay for at this hotel. Basic accomodation. Clean appartments even if the complex itself needs a little paint work. But there is absolutely nothing I could complain about. Food in the pool bar is very good.

Staff were friendly and helpful. Pool area is small but we never had a problem getting a bed.

A number of steps to get up from the centre but we were aware of this and took a taxi back in the evening (2.50 - 3.00 euro).

A couple of nights it was a bit noisy with young people returning after a night out but nothing to be concerned about.

I would definitely return to this complex.

Restaurant I would recommmend : San Miguel ( we ate there most nights as the food is excellent, the price is excellent and the staff are second to none)

Would recommend a visit to Amadores Beach. It's like paradise. Also a trip by boat to Mogan s a must.

Room Tip: Block B room 322 is great as you have a view of the sea. Also there is no sun at all on the balcony...

We booked a last minute holiday and wanted somewhere in puerto rico as we stated there last year. travel agents found a great deal at puerto plata so we went ahead. nervous about the apartments as was our first time staying in them. arrived and had a wander around tge place and were very impressed pool was spotless and good atmosphere overall. reception were very helpful. rooms were perfect and amazing view of the sea and puerto rico. was a bit of a walk down to the centre but only costs 2.50 in a taxi. well worth our stay and will definatly be returning to these apartments.

We booked these apartments last min. I had read the reviews and decided to make my own mind up when I got there. On arriving off the bus from the airport there was a long queue at reception with only one guy manning it. when u arrive at the main door you need to get (tiny) lift down to 1st floor where reception is. One person with a big case is all the fits into the lift! We were shown to our apartment Block B 315. Not too bad. No dragging cases up and down stairs as they were on same level as reception. There are two beds as you go in the door. Then down two steps to the living area. thank god we did not bring a cat as there is no space to swing one! There was a battered old couch, an even battered coffee table and a chair. The "kitchen" consisted of a fridge (never kept our milk or water cold enough even though we had it turned up full) and a two ring hob. The kettle was dirty and the lid kept falling off. I always bring my own. However, there was ample crockery and cutlery but we had to move the cutlery tray to under the sink to make room for our food (breakfast cereal, etc.). The place was tiny. They say these studios fit 3. Three what??? Midgets. There was a rusty bar leading from the sleeping area to the living area. There was also a curtain which u can draw across between the two areas. For what I don't know. The bathroom was smelly. Having said that the beds were comfortable with clean white linen (which was changed once during our stay). the towels were clean but very worn and hard. We only had two towel changes during our week long stay.

There is a supermarket on site. A complete rip off. Everything almost twice the price it is in the resort. We only bought milk and water there to save having to drag it home. My advise shop in Hiper Dino or Spar.

Beds at the pool are a joke. Pool does not open until 9am by which time a long queue has formed. When the chains come down there is a swarm of people, like locusts, running to grab a sun bed. There is not enough beds to go around. Its crazy. You would think a complex its size would have more sunbeds but no. I heard a lot of people in reception complaining about this. Thank heavens myself and my partner are beach people so we went there everyday.

There is a lovely restaurant on site called Long Play Chill Out. Food lovely and you can smoke in it !! The smoking ban in Spain is widespread and no restaurant allows you smoke in it. This one does so my partner was delighted with himself. The food is reasonably priced. Only downer is the place is very dark in the evenings. The lighting is low but a bit too low. We never tried the Vista Grill, also on site, so cannot comment on it.

The day of departure is a nightmare. No late check out available and no shower or courtesy room. We were told there "may" be a courtesy room but we waited and waited and no room appeared. Anyway, there were lots of people checking out that day so there would have been a long wait.

We have been to puerto rico many times but we will never go back to Puerto Plata again.

Just back from Puerto Plata and had no problems with it atall. The welcome when we arrived was impressive and also efficient. We also found it convenient for beach and eating out. Only a short distance to both and no need to use the steps if you desire you can take another route and not much difference timewise. We found the facilities at the Puerto Plata itself very good with the exception of the upstairs restaurant where the head waiter there was less than friendly. The other restaurants and bars are excellent and the staff friendly and food standard very good. The daily special is particularly good value and the other items on the menu equally good.We would definately stay there again.
