ARRIVED AT 7.50 PM TO FIND RECEPTION IN DARKNESS ,ON FURTHER INSPECTION GENTLEMAN ON RECEPTION SAID HE WAS CLOSED-note closing time was 20.00 hrs. However we persisted and were given keys to room 107.We found apartment in near darkness and on opening door noticed it was one of the non renovated rooms. It was very basic.Do not try cooking on the the two ringed hob it was terribly slow. The bathroom was small and we discovered the extractor fan did not work. We discovered a musty smell in the closet the next day and surmised there must have been a leak from the adjoining bath/shower.
On the positive side the room was cleaned daily and the view over Amadores beach is stunning
If you get a good deal go for it but remember . it is basic no frills accommodation

Room Tip: Ask for a room on floors 4 upwards

The hotel is comfortable and relaxed with one of the best views you can get in the resort. Although the rooms were basic, they were clean and comfortable. I would recommend this hotel to anybody who doesnt mind the fact that it is on a steep hill and is fairly basic. We had a great holiday and the hotel certainly played its part in it.
We found the staff helpful and friendly - one morning we found out the toaster wasnt working, I asked at the reception and within 5 minutes a replacement was delivered to our door, we also asked for extra pillows and these arrived in less than 10 minutes.
The only real negative for me was that the beds were too soft and uncomfortable - but a minor complaint!
We would definately stay again.

The Palmeramar, at the top of its big hill, has such terrific views, that the terrace of its restaurant is an informal mirador. This is a bit of a nuisance if you are in rooms 709 or 710, directly below the terrace, because if you wander on to the balcony in your pants, you get a bit of a shock, and the people gazing from the mirador get a view they might not have wanted.

Some of the fixtures and fittings have a tired appearance. There is no “wow” factor as you arrive at your apartment. However, everything works: the fridge, the two ring hob, the coffee machine and the shower. I imagine that the T.V. does too, but we weren’t going to pay good money for Spanish channels, German channels, Eurosport and BBC World.

At this time of year, November, there is no need for air conditioning. It’s in the 20s, centigrade, in the day time, falling to about 14/15 at night. In other words, perfect English summer weather, in November, with some power in the sun. If you get a good week in the Canaries, in late Autumn (we did) then there is nowhere to touch them- why fly half way round the world? There are no mosquitos, and we never saw a cockroach in room 709.

As advised, Palmeramar is at the top of a great big hill, so whilst the views are fabulous, the trudge back from the beach isn’t. There is an abundance of taxis, which we didn’t use, because we hired a car, but the taxis are reputedly cheap. Our car was with Orlando, the preferred agents of Car Hire 3000 and Holiday Autos. We would never hire through these companies again. The Orlando office is not on the airport, so you have a half hour wait, for the Orlando rep. to come and fetch you 5 miles to the depot. Then there is another wait while you queue up to get your car. We were “upgraded” from a Toyota Aygo to a battered Skoda estate with 100,000 KM.s on the clock. The last thing you want on those narrow roads is a big car. We changed it the following day because it was leaking petrol, and therefore we were without a car for a whole day and for most of the following morning.

The pool area is lovely, though you wouldn’t want an apartment right on it. The water is quite warm, and there are some mature palm trees to lounge under. There is a shopping centre just a bit further up the hill, about a 15 minute walk away. Amadores beach is OK, but visibility isn’t that great for snorkelling. Palmeramar has a rule about sun beds which, were I the Prime Minister of Europe, would be adopted everywhere- the pool opens at 9am, and any towels placed on sun beds prior to that time WILL BE REMOVED. Hurrah!

Gran Canaria has some good hiking, and some excellent fish restaurants, the Cofradias in Puerto de Mogan and Arguineguin being two such. Having asserted that the Palmeramar doesn’t have the “wow” factor, it does when you sit on your balcony. Plus, it’s clean and functional, with a decent pool area. We give it a solid 4 out of 5, and would probably not bother looking elsewhere the next time we visit Gran Canaria- most properties in or around Puerto Rico have views of a shopping centre and/ or a dry barranco. We paid £340 for a week, through Low Cost Holidays- £50 a night. We thought that this was about £40 too much.

Room Tip: Rooms beginning 4, 5 or 6 would probably be the best, though 709 was fine.

This hotel looked ideal for us on all the advertising - big balconies, great views. 90% of rooms probably were, but we were down on floor 0 - the pool deck. No balcony, no view, the door opened straight out on to the pool surrounds. Supposedly we had a terrace but in reality nothing - people on sunbeds within 2 metres of our door, so no privacy at all.
As other reviews we knew there would be no air-con, but with situation of our room we couldn't leave a door or window open at all. No fans available when enquired at reception and when I complained about room it was implied that we got what we paid for (through lowcostholidays.com). We had requested high floor with seaview
As for the room, it was tatty - paint peeling from ceilings, cupboards and wardrobes rotting and ill-fitting doors, a small pay-as-you-view TV with poor reception, the smallest bath I've ever seen, cracked tiles and mould. 35euros for a key to safe for a week!
We were woken at 7am every morning when cleaners started cleaning the pool area, chattering away loudly and dragging sunbeds about. Everyone going to pool had to walk past our room.
Reception only open a few hours a day and not helpful - unable to change room. No other contact details provided. When reception shut, as it was when we arrived, noone to contact, so if anything had happened eg during night we'd have been stuck. The poorly stocked minimarket was in reception so only open same hours.
No wifi or any such modern luxury

Pool bar only open 3 hrs in afternoon.

The balconies of the advertised rooms did look good - spacious and terrific views over Amadores and rooms looked in better condition than ours.

Hotel restaurant was probably the best bit - stunning views if you got a table near windows - need to book if you want one of these. Good food but portions smaller and more expensive than at Europa Centre. Friendly staff.

The hotel is a VERY steep hill up from Amadores beach, a longer steadier climb from Puerto Rico.

Europa centre is a short walk away with numerour bar/restaurants. We had good meals at Barbacoa, El Negro Torro, but Amadeus was poor.

Visit Puerto Mogan 20 mkins on sea taxi - lovely village and good market.

In summary I think view of hotel will depend on whether you get a decent high level room.

Room Tip: Try to insist on a sea view room.

we have just returned from our weeks break in Gran Canaria. we stayed at The Palmera Mar Apartments. We are writing to let you know how utterly disappointed and upset we are about the accomadation we booked through your company.
we arrived at the resort at around 8.30 in the evening, to find out the reception was closed and our keys cellotaped to the window of the reception door! how unprofessional that is, to give us no prior warning as to what to expect when we arrived there.
when we finally found our room, through the dark halls(there was NO adequate lighting), Ground Floor (0), it occurred to us that the apartment was situated in the BASEMENT. when we booked the holiday, we SPECIFICALLY asked for a seaview. At this time of the night there was no one in reception to rectify the rooms.
The basement flat was the most HORRIFIC room we have ever come across, we had no seaview, nor balcony or terrace, its was located in a corridor, opposite communal TOILETS, by the communal swimming pool. so every morning, people would be trapsing to and from the pool. Also, the apartment were by the lifts, that take guests to their apartments.
we have attached pictures to show you the HIDIOUS extent of the room, they were nothing like the pictures on trip advisor, nor the website.
On inspection of the room when we arrived,
-our bedroom window was left wide open. for a basement flat in the corridor, we was not happy with that. anybody could have loitered around in there.
-curtains hanging off the rail in the bedroom, so when you did pull them together, it didnt close properly, and left gaps that allowed people to see through when they were walking past to and from the pool.
-fire/smoke alarm, with wires hanging out.
-cockroach carcasses EVERYWHERE
-the cleaners&workers rattling around from before 7am right outside the room, cleaning the corridor. they had no respect for guests as we slept. and as we were in the corridor, the noise that they made chit-chattering away echoed through the rooms.
-lights that do go on& off in the corridor, shone straight through to the bedroom as we slept.
-as we only had one front door & exit we could not leave any doors or windows open when it was HOT (- the room DID NOT have any form of air conditioning), as
A:it was noisey B: we did not want to risk our belongings being stolen during the night as we slept.
-no television. i did not work, and it was coin fed??
-we had no privacy. we had to keep the curtains shut all day, even when it was 27 degree heat, as people were able to look in to the room as they passed.
that night was the worst night sleep that my partner and i had ever had. it was hot, stuffy, the bed was rock hard and the pillows were so lumpy and thin, that we had to even fold them over to get a decent height to them. the noise from the workers started from about 5am. the noise came from outside the room and ubove us.
For a resort that is on an island that has hot weather all year round, to place holiday guests in a holding place like that is like leaving a dog in a back of a car in the summer with all the windows shut. we would have never booked this hoilday if we knew we were coming to that.
and why are we paying for a room like this?
the next morning when we asked to be moved to another room, the receptionist said that they did not have any other room til the following morning. and that we did not book a seaview room, and that it was only STANDARD. on our accomodation voucher, it specifically stated BALCONY/TERRACE. we had neither. they also said to speak to LOWCOST, as it was you guys that had booked it. so we did. we called for half an hour, calling a UK number from abroad, only to be put on hold. the final result of that call was about 30pounds worth of call charges, and no one there to help. so we had to stay in that room an extra night.
We are INFURIATED to be put in a place like that is unacceptable. we did not pay to be put into SLUMS like this. to say these rooms are substandard is an under statement. what we paid for is not what we got. ESPECIALLY when it is a contracted agreement between us, that we should have a seaview, with balcony/terrace.
so on the third day, they finally moved us to another room. this room, was not any better. it was located on the first floor, just above the room we had come from.
again, this looked nothing like ANY of the pictures found on your website.
this time round we did have a front door and balcony/terrace. FIRST floor apartment (1) BUT:
on inspection of the room 2:
-still NO seaview
-wires hanging from the boiler in the kitchen
-toaster didnt work, it kept blowing the fuse off in the whole apartment when we attempted to use it
-noisey, we found out that the noise that was coming from above us from the first flat was actually coming from this floor, opposite us. it was the cleaners store cupboard. so each morning, a dozen or more so cleaners, would interrpt our sleep loudly, by getting their days equipment ready.
-the bathroom window did not shut. so didnt help the noise coming through. we were the first flat by the corridor, so the noise echoed through.
-the bathroom was sub-standard. basic curtain rail, over bath tub, which had SCUM clinging on to the bottom of the curtain.
-the shower did not work properly, and was an old 70's shower head. barely able to have a proper clean.
- MOULD on the bath tub
-underneath the lights in bathroom was DISGUSTING. MOULD.
-we had no sun loungers on the terrace. we had to bring the cushions from the settee to form a sun-bed instead.
-same problem with the bedroom again. lumpy pillows, and rock hard bed.
- the tv did not work in this room either. was also a coin-fed machine.
all in all, this ruined our holiday. we had booked this vacation as a birthday treat. To arrive to a resort which is below average. it was the PITTS.
we had booked a package holiday, which included half board. the restaurant itself, was only 1 star.( we asked the owners). which beggars the question, for a 3* hotel, why am i paying for 1 star food???
we are extremly appalled by the lack of service that we have encountered during our stay, with the hotel itself, and moreso with lowcost holidays. this hotel itself should NOT be rated anything near to 3* star whatsoever, and should be lowered to 1*, 2* at the most. the rooms that we were put in were absolutely revolting. no human should endure what we went through. we are completely outraged of the fact that the rooms were not as they were advertised on the website. Thats false advertisement.

Room Tip: take your business elsewhere! disgusting place!

Stayed in the Palmera Mar for a week and we cant complain, very clean, great views, location wise its on a hill but walkable round to the Europa centre (5-10mins) and the commercial centre(30-45mins depending on fitness). We would defiantly stay in these apartments again.

Room Tip: If you want a room away from the pool area ask for something in the 06-10 area, then if you want a hi...
