“Excellent Hotel - Friendly Staff”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 16, 2013

Puerto Rico hotels are built largely on the sides of cliffs, there are very few at "sea level". Morasol Suites, next to the Marina enjoys both a location without climbs but also a quiet(ish) setting. There are restaurants, a supermarket and a bar just 3 minutes away (through the tunnel), a further minute away the other side of the marina then the main beach is just another couple of minutes where there are a lot more bars and restaurants.

The hotel itself is not very large (less than 100 rooms) but 90% of those have excellent views of the marina and bay, an excellent place to watch the sun go down with a cocktail or beer.

The restaurant and reception staff (and cleaners) are exceptionally friendly and make every effort to assist. The Friday night barbeque is a must, set in the secluded patio area behind the hotel, it is good value with salad and sweet as well as the barbeque itself (live music too) for 15 euros.

Free wifi is available in the lobby but must be paid for in rooms, there are pay computers in the lobby. All sky sports channels are available in the bar, the rooms have BBC1/2 and ITV1.

Sunbathing at the pool on ground floor is good although there are plenty of 4am towel planters to deal with; the third floor rooftop lounge area is much quieter; it has a jacuzzi and people appear to have no problems with topless bathing. The hotel provides and replaces towels whenever you want to; you just pay a 10 euro deposit at the start of the holiday and retrieve it at the end.

Room Tip: The 3rd floor is at the level of the rooftop terrace but the 2nd, 3rd and 4th all afford good views...

Just back from a week at the Morasol Suites. Had a lovely relaxing week from start to finish. The staff were so friendly and welcoming especially Elena at reception and Antiono (barman). Our apartment was on the second floor and the views were amazing. The apartment itself was lovely and VERY clean. The maids cleaned it everyday. The beds are not one bit comfortable. Then pool area is spotless and there are plenty of sunbeds. The food in the restaurant is nice but the breakfasr was very poor. It is suitated at the marina just 15 minute walk from the main town. There is an English restaurant across the road called Yogi and bennys which serve a lovely and cheap full english breakfast. There is also a small supermarket across the road for all your daily needs. The only thing i can fault is the atmosphere as there is none, it is quiet unlike some of the other resorts. I would defo recomend it and it lives up to its 4 star rating.

Room Tip: ask for a room on the second or third floor as the views are amazing.

Stayed at beginning of june, hotel great location, although it was quiet, no problem with sun beds etc, sun deck on the third floor was amazing with wonderful views over the harbour, a jacuzzi, and a call button for waiter service from your lounger.
Never eat in the hotel but had the bbq one friday which good value. There are good restaurants near by so no need to walk into town every night. Yogi and bennys was great.
We had two bed apt. First bed was directly in front when you walk in from corridor, but the other has a separate door, which we felt was better for our daughter. The bathroom, with great shower, hairdryer, and welcome pack. Kitchen, table chairs, all crockery etc you may need. Living room with sofa bed , tv and floor to ceiling patio doors with great view of the harbour.
Best place we have stayed at in pr would definately go back, the only down side for us and its just a personal thing was no kids club, which we knew when we booked it but thought there may be stuff the hotel may do, only one entertainer on per week, the same one. Apart from the pool there was nothing else for little ones to do, play park etc. But that no way reflects on the hotel or how great our holiday was.

Stayed for ten days in June and it was really quiet although when we left it was fully booked and appeared much busier. No problems getting sun lounger. Rooms cleaned daily.Nice apartment and extremely nice hotel. Bar was always quiet as was the resort with very quiet beach . Recommend local Indian restaurant Taj palace and bar wigwam. All the beachfront restaurants were similar with food and reasonable value.
Marasol is highly recommended by myself if you want a quiet break in a good location. There is a happy hour 4-5 daily at pool bar which is nice. The staff are all very friendly and supply great customer service . The bar area is really nice but no atmosphere due to it being quiet and the restaurant appeared the same. I would recommend the walk to amadores beach along the seafront which has amazing views and is a better beach and will take twenty minutes max.
Finally be nice to the local cats as there are a few and they appreciate sharing your dinner. My Mrs was buying ham from local shops for them.

Room Tip: Ground floor are near pool.

The hotel was spotlessly clean and well maintained. The staff on reception were extremely helpful, recommending places to go and see, giving recommendations for restaurants etc. they telephoned the transport company for me to confirm the return journey to the Airport.

We booked a one bedroom apartment with breakfast. The apartment we were given was very nice, but I wouldn't have called it a one bedroom as there was no actual door between the bedroom and the kitchen, it was quite open plan with the bedroom and kitchen being separated by the bathroom. Very minimal furniture, not a lot of storage space. But the kitchen was equipped with better than usual crockery, a coffee machine, liquidisers, kettle, 2 ring hob etc. no microwave though. The cleaner came in every day and replaced the towels, cleaned very thoroughly too.

Breakfast was definitely not worth the effort. There was a selection of about 4 cereals, toast, cold meats/cheese and a hot selection (that was at best lukewarm) and very limited, especially for my vegetarian daughter. There was unlimited juice and tea/coffee, but only full fat milk. We bought our own milk and took it to breakfast. The jam was very cheap, tasteless little plastic packets. There was a bowl of fresh fruit with apples, pears, bananas. But other fruit was tinned peaches and pineapple. All in all, could have had better in my room.

The hotel is situated in the marina area, very near lots of restaurants and a 20 minute walk to the shopping/ entertainment centre where there are many eateries, bar and shops/supermarkets. The beach is a 5 minute walk and a couple of minutes to the water bus that will take you to neighbouring resorts for a reasonable cost. There is a lovely walk along a cliff path to the neighbouring beach, a bit steep at times, but there are benches along the way.

We went at the beginning of June and it was very quiet in the whole resort. The hotel bar had no atmosphere and we very rarely saw any one in there. But there were always sun beds and umbrellas both by the pool and on the third floor jacuzzi area.

So to sum up there were some very good things about the hotel and some things that were a little less than satisfactory. The location is within walking distance of most things and no really steep hills to climb. But the pool area and sun area are right next to busy roads. The staff in the hotel are very helpful and polite with good English skills. The rooms in the hotel were minimalist, but nice with a good TV with BBC1, BBC2, ITV and a film channel.

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 7, 2013

Spent 2 weeks at the Morasol in May-June 2013. Had a lovely stay. The staff are most welcoming. The rooms are spacious - we stayed in a Junior Suite on the 4th floor. It overlooked the marina and the sea. The pool area was rarely full to capacity and no one reserved sun loungers which was nice. Didn't eat breakfast or dinner so can't comment on that. The food at lunch time was ok but nothing special. There is a jacuzzi and large sun bathing area on the 3rd floor roof of the building, great for sun worshippers. We enjoyed a bottle of wine up there one night when it was almost empty and it was lovely! The cleaning and maintenance staff keep the place immaculate. The reception staff are ever so nice. It is perfectly located for ferries, boat trips and a short walk to the local centre. The beds are hard but we slept fairly well. The room decor is basic but the kitchen is well equipped with kettle, toaster, blender, microwave. You are responsible for keeping the kitchen clean during your stay....not the maid....so don't be lazy!!!!!

Top tips.....take the ferry to Mogan.....so quaint and more traditionally Spanish looking. Don't shop at Spar.....got to the local supermercado at the Portonovo complex visible from the hotel! Take a walk to Amadores and enjoy the nice beach there.

For eating check out the Sunday roast at Harbour Lights and for a romantic meal try The Beach Club.....had a really good meal there with nice bottle of wine.

Finally, if you like to party try the Pacha pirate boat trip....we had a great time with Alfonso and the rest of the crew of the boat!

Room Tip: Higher up is better view but the rooms at the pool would be great for families.
