“Faultless Marina Suites.....”
Reviewed April 3, 2009

Arrived at Marina Suites by taxi from the airport (bit pricy at 55 Euros but worth it). Took 30 minutes door to door. Taxi's all immaculate with very pleasant drivers. Checked in very efficiently and professionally, we arrived around 5.30pm. Beach/pool towels provided for a 20 euro deposit which was returned at the end of the holiday - remember to keep the receipt they give you. Just makes it easier to return the towels and get your 20 euros back without any fuss. Dumped our cases in the HUGE apartment. Double bedroom room (the comfiest hotel beds ever!) with a long hallway, then huge bathroom and massive sitting and dining area opening out onto a 10mtr square balcony over looking the harbour /puerto rico beach and the Atlantic. The apartment was extremely well appointed, with lovely modern and comfy furniture. The kitchen was equipped with a 2 ring hob, microwave, toaster, kettle, fridge etc and plently of crockery, cutlery and glassware. All again, modern and very clean. The whole hotel was immaculate and we couldn't recommend it highly enough. We then went for an explore of the hotel and its amenities. The infinity pool overlooking the ocean is just amazing. We couldn't have picked a better spot. I would say that the Marina Suites has got to be the best aparthotel in the resort, without doubt! The staff were friendly and informative whilst being immaculately dressed and professionally behaved at all times. The pool bar area is actually franchised and not part of the hotel and is a little on the pricy side - 10 euros for two sangrias or 8 euros for two beers - but there's nothing to stop you bringing your own food and drink down to the pool area which can be bought from many local supermercados.

We would thoroughly recommend the Marina Suites for location, cleanliness, size, professionalism.

All in all a fantastic holiday made all the better with our choice of accommodation. Would absolutely return at any time.

I have been lucky enough to travel far and wide and i would have to say as far as hotels in Gran Canaria go this has to be one of the best. The hotel is situated on the Marina and all rooms have stunning views of either the marina or sea - most have stunning views of both. My advise would be to get in touch with the hotel and request a room on the fourth floor upwards. I stayed in room 514 and the sun sets from my balcony were spectacular and on a par with the famous sun sets of ibiza.

The rooms themselves are bright with lots of room, they are thouroghly modern and the air conditioning was quiet and worked well. The hotel itself is modern and kept spotless, the cleaners are very good (if not a little enthusiastic - starting at 7am). On arrival in our room we were greeted by two cold bottles of water and a welcome note along with an information pack - only a small gesture - but these little things add up. Recption were fantastic - we somehow managed to break the lever on the window in our bedroom and it was fixed within the hour.

The swimming pool is clearly the signature mark of the hotel and it's fantastic, its an infinity pool and when lying on your sun bed it looks really cool! We were self catering so I can't comment on the food but noone seemed to be complaining. When we stayed it was a good mixture of nationalities, spanish, german, ireland etc and agood mixture of age ranges - it was a very relaxed atmosphere.

As for peurto rico itself, well I have to say its 'ok', decent man made beach which was always busy. The main 'centre' is in dire need on knocking down and starting again - and if this happens you would hope that many of the bars and resteruants are buried with it. My pet hate on holiday is people trying to drag me into there bar/resteraunt when at 32 years old I am more than capable of choosing for myself!

Away from there main centre there are a couple of decent resteraunts, one - (the name escapes me but is german run and near to the marina) does very good fish, and for drinks afterwards i can recomend the 'wig wam' bar. Prices ar quite steep at the moment - partly due to the falling pound and partly due to the bars and resteraunts taking advantage of the falling pound. Me and my girlfriend spent €620.00 during the week - almost all on food and drink!

I can highly recomend a trip to Mogan 'little Venice' which is a half hour and €10 ferry ride away. Its an amazing little hideaway and totally different to Peurto Rico. (Infact if I return to Gran Canaria I would spend four nights at the Marina Suites and maybe three in Mogan).

All in all the Marina Suites is exceptional, it really is - resort centre really does need an overhaul but you can live with it because it can be easily avoided for other resteraunts nearer to the Marina.

Anyone reading this who is a little unsure about the place just book it I can guarantee you you won't be disappointed. Just back from a weeks stay in Marina Suites (after reading trip advisors reviews) all I can say is I wish I could go back. The staff were really friendly and helpful. The room had an amazing view of the marina and it was huge (separate bedroom with massive wardrobes) lovely bathroom. The infinity pool is gorgeous and yes even though we went in March the sunbeds were quite full but you could always find one. As far as the food goes its okay (because its all buffet style it could be hotter) and I would recommend that you go self catering as there are some fab eateries only a short walk - I cannot recommend Oscars enough the food was amazing and we went back a few times. Also Las Vegas in the centre has great food also. As far as prices go if you are from Ireland you are in for a treat as it is much cheaper than at home. The beaches in the area are amazing and well worth the visit especially amadores which is beautiful and lastly don't forget to go to Mogan on Friday morning for the market and then lunch. Enjoy !!

My wife and I stayed in Marina Suites on a self catering basis (although later found out the other travellers payed considerably less on a half-board basis with Budget Travel than we did) and really liked its superb location at the ocean and short walk to beach and good restaurants. good pool area and decking right onto the ocean. The rooms are spacious although the one we had really needed to be painted and as a result looke pretty awful. Staff were courteous and helpful whenever we needed their asistance.

We found a really great restaurant on the beach called La Taverna and they do great fis, beef and pastas.

We used the the premier service which picks you up to and from the Airport to the hotel, but the bus seemed to be just as good, just takes a little longer. The hotel was excellent, we were checked in very efficiently and the staff were very nice. We're only a young couple 26 and 21, so we're not experts. However I have stayed in alot of hotels and this one is good. We went half board but think we had dinner there once, it was a buffet and to be honest not exceptional but good if you just want a quick and easy dinner. But there are way to many restaurants to just stay in hotel every night. So we went out for dinner every other night and had some excellent meals. The rooms are cleaned every day, towels, bedding, bins etc. However they don't do the floor unless you request it for some reason. Plus they are ready to go at 9am so if you've been out the night before best to stick up the don't disturb sign, they will still clean your room as long as you have removed the sign before lunch time we figured out. There is a safe in the room but you have to pay for it, we didn't use it once and had no worries or hassle but for peace of mind then it may be fore you. The view is incredible, I called up a week before hand to request a higher floor, we ended up on level 8 and it only goes to 9, so our view was amazing. The pool is excellent and warm, though the kids can get annoying and I think they should be kept apart, as the pool is split in two. Heard that the sun beds were always taken but we had no problem but guess it was just the time of year. Hundreds on the beaches anyway but remember a guy will get you at some point to pay for it, 3 euros each it was for the day. Breakfast was good, again just buffet style, plus they serve till 11am so lie ins were no problem. Anyway all in all we had an amazing time and will definately be going back. Any questions feel free to ask and I'll try get back to you with an answer. Pigeon82@hotmail.com

having not been to Gran Canaria, we loved it and will definately be back, the hotel rooms were one of the nicet we have stayed in, we always book 4 or 5 star and this was great, fairly quiet for Half term which suited us, the hotel was very clean and the staff very helpfull, breakfast although almost the same most mornings was still good, the view from our room spectacular. Close by Yogi & Bennys went there most nights on our way out or on the way back, very British and lovely people, just moved out and bought the bar - good luck - Oscars (little oscars) fab food must book. Time share people target the white, they know when you,ve been there a few days and leave you alone - dont get dragged on the New Beach ! nothing but time shares !!!! waste of time we didn't go but others did. Euro exchanged rate hasn,t made gran canaria a cheap place to go but well worth it - we will be going back

We have gone to Puerto Rico perhaps 20 times over as many years, staying in different accommodation. Marina Suites was a big disappointment and relatively expensive. Most of the apartments have no direct sunlight during the day. We were put 'on the dark side' and had to fight hard to get changed to the 'bright side.' When we did so, after 5 nights, we were charged 25 euro. There is no parking, as such. One has to use the Marina carpark which cost us 70 euro for our fortnight. Our first apartment (on the 'dark side') had grubby, marked walls. The telephone did not work. The safe did not work. The airconditiong/heat only came on at 8 pm in the evening. We asked (after a week) for a second tiny bottle of shampoo (initially supplied in the bathroom) and were refused. When we were moved from the 'dark side' we were given a 1st floor apartment just beside the 'Kids Club' but were not advised of its proximity. The noise was deafening.
The only positive of the Marina Suites was the infinity pool which is lovely but even here space is limited and the daily scramble to secure a lounger was inevitable.
