Just back from almost 2 weeks staying here. This was my first time staying in a hotel abroad as we usually stay in a Villa. The room was nice and airy and clean, the beds are firm but fine, we stayed on the 6th floor overlooking the harbour which was super as the sun was on the balcony until about 8 at night and gave a great view. However the pillows are awful and whilst the hotel commented on other posts that they were sorting the problem, I don't think offering to charge for nicer pillows is much of a solution, especially in a 4 star hotel!!!!. Don't go to this hotel if you actually want to cook as although it has a 2 ring hob, it does say you can only use it for 19 minutes!!!! This wasn't a problem for us as there were plenty of nice places to eat nearby. We had lunch near the pool which was fine but we eat at the Chinese buffet 1 night and it was awful and 19 euros each excluding drinks. The entertainment was ok but the management should put more staff in the bar area as we frequently waited 15 - 20 min to get served. The sunbeds are packed in around the pool but there are loungers and sunbeds in other areas and if you can't get one readily, the lifeguard will make sure he gets one for you, the pool itself is very nice. Used the gym 2ce and the machines are ok but there really should be more air conditioning in the room. There are 2 pool tables, a table tennis table and a football table, 2 jacuzzis and other smaller games to keep kids of all ages entertained. Lots going on every day but not in your face so if you want to join in you can but if you don't then you wouldn't be affected by it. It is a very quiet hotel so if you want the opportunity to do activities whilst staying in peaceful surroundings then stay here The massive plus for this hotel has to be the staff. They will bend over backwards to help you and with the exception of one grumpy man on reception who we only saw 2 ce during our stay, they all are friendly and very happy, the staff are a real credit to the hotel. Although I have given it a few negatives, if we were going to Puerto Rico then we would probs stay here again as it has a nice atmosphere. However Puerto Rico itself is like one big caravan Park

Third time here. Views from upper floors spectacular. Staff very professional . Perfectly clean and close to lots of good places to eat. Only gripe is that the pool ,which has incredible views is very popular with locals and residents from nearby hotels. There is either a policy of encouraging visitors or, a total lack of supervision of access. Over ten days we once got beds despite arriving at a variety of times.

Room Tip: Level one has the kids club and room 113 is directly outside the club. Unless you enjoy early mornings try some other level. This level is also adjacent to the pool and not the quietest area.

Dear Dave0rla,

First of all we would like to thank you for your loyalty choosing again Marina Suites.

We appreciate all your nice words regarding our spectacular views, professional staff and cleanness. However, we are sorry if you had some inconvenience regarding the sunbeds, our policy is to clear any sunbeds not occupied for long periods, therefore the lifeguard or even me are constantly controlling the area in order to make them available for other guests. We also would like to thank you for bringing all the information to our attention, we will look into it!

Please once again accept our most sincere apologies for the sunbeds issue. We look forward to seeing you again soon.

Warm regards from the sunny Puerto Rico,

Noemi

This is a perfect hotel that has staff that go above and beyond to make sure your stay is as perfect as possible. The rooms are spacious, clean and have fantastic views. We stayed as a family with a 12 year old son and he had a really great time. We were half board and the food was so good with a variety of options! Always a choice and of 5 star quality.
The hotel entertainment is not for everyone but is fun and part of the holiday spirit, but the main town is a short walk away if you prefer to search for more entertainment.
The swimming pool was amazing and you do have to get up early to get a good sun bed, but that is your choice and there will always be some available or the lifeguards will ensure they find you a space.
The marina suites is an exceptional hotel where the staff should be commended for the effort they make and after two weeks we were very sad to leave, which is unusual because we are usually ready to head home after this period of time. We would not hesitate recommending this hotel and would more definetly return to this hotel!
Thank you Marina suites for happy memories.

Room Tip: Sea view as you get to watch entertainment from balcony

This is a quite comprehensive review - but since we just came back from the hotel, we definitely thought it was worth it, as the hotel fulfilled in every way: beautiful decor, excellent service, delicious breakfasts and meals with a wide variety, and close to Puerto Rico beach (5 min walk), Spar (8 min walk), and bus stop (13 min walk). There are many local restaurants along the beach parade, and a small shopping centre just a short walk up from the bus-stop. The harbour has restaurants/cafes, and many boat excursions to choose from.
Brief hotel description:
As soon as you walk into the spacious reception area, the staff greet you warmly and provide everything you need by way of your stay and local information. The decor is restrained and tasteful, and there is a mariners theme. Opposite reception is a bar (happy hour at 6/7pm I believe), and the restaurant, which has plenty of seating in three areas (main inner room, side room, and outside in a small courtyard). There are three rows of lifts (which are quite slow/you can stop doors closing on you by pressing the button) - we soon started using the stairs for health and speed reasons! On the first floor (upper ground) is the breakfast area, and the eternity pool to the side, with a kids pool to one end (surrounded by about six or seven rows of loungers which filled up very quickly), beyond which there is decking above the rocks that contains four sets of upright seats. We climbed the rocks to the left of the decking area and found plenty of rockpool fish, with black and red crabs scuttling away - you can also find some flat rocks to sunbathe on, but the sea is quite choppy here, so swimming beyond the rocky area is for brave adults only I would say! My teenage son went swimming there and I was petrified for him...
Apartment:
We had a one-bed apartment on the sixth floor overlooking the harbour - very spacious and cool (literally, due to very efficient and gentle adjustable air-con), with marble floors and dining table, a kitchenette providing a fridge with small freezer, two-ring electric hob, a microwave (but no oven, to our dismay, so we had to turn our shop-bought pizza into a calzone and cook it in a lidded frying pan!), a kettle, a toaster, and a coffee machine. Pots, pans, chopping board, cups, glasses, plates, knives, cooking utensils, cutlery, etc, all supplied. My two teenage children slept in two single beds in the bedroom (also containing expansive wardrobe with paid-for safe), while I slept on a comfortable bed in the lounge. The balcony is spacious and you can sunbathe there in the afternoon (sun comes round the front at about 1/2pm), with two trademark chairs and table, and a handy towel rail in the wall. The bathroom is all-things marble, with a large sink, and panelled bath/shower, again with handy towel rails doubling as clothes driers. Despite facing the harbour, I didn't find it noisy at all in the early mornings, there was some noise later in the mornings (boat excursions), and in the evenings (brief noise from party/disco boats) - but mostly we enjoyed the many burnt-gold sunsets which were spectacular.
Outside areas:
The pool was of course jam-packed during the day (our stay was late July/early August), but if you get breakfast early you can usually manage to find a couple of loungers together. Bring your own towels or put down a 20 euro deposit for extra hotel towels to use by the pool. There are a couple of curtained massage beds (from memory it was about 50 euros per hour, pro-rated for 40 mins and 20 mins). There is a quieter area to the side which holds two jacuzzis (cool in summer, bleached), an outdoor shower, and about eight sections of two loungers, which I found preferable as it had a more peaceful and private ambience. There is a small section which contains table-tennis (you have to ask reception for the bats and ball), table football, and another game I think.
Breakfast:
Every possible breakfast type provided - from cooked sausages, eggs, bacon, veg, to varieties of cereal, fruit, yoghurt, bread, baps, and DIY toast, pastries, three hot drinks machines, a juice machine, and we loved the freshly-squeezed orange machine. It was impossible to taste everything and, as with all buffets, restraint was needed! Waiters were busy but lovely.
Lunch:
The round bar area next to the pool is screened off and provides lovely views while having breakfast or lunch. The lunch menu is not too extensive, but provides the main things like burgers and salads (the Caesar was delicious), lasagne and pizza, chips, with a speciality dish every day (such as barbecued suckling pig, and paella) - portion sizes are good, and prices very reasonable.
Dinner:
The restaurant put a lot of thought into varying dishes on a daily basis, with themes such as Mediterranean (including seafood dishes), Hindu (curries), Chinese, Italian, and of course Spanish (mojo sauce to die for!), etc - so dinners never felt samey. My daughter is vegetarian, and there are plenty of bean and fish dishes, as well as an extensive salad bar. My son is a fussy eater, but he always had plenty of things to choose from. There is a little section for children containing about four or five dishes. It is impossible to try every dish due to the large variety, and of course dessert was a treat with plenty of delicate cakes, mousses, ice-cream, fruit, and yoghurt. Staff are lovely, smiley, and welcoming.
Excursions:
The hotel have a wide variety of pamphlets for excursions, and they can put you in touch with an organiser to help you book, etc. One of the receptionists (young Spanish Rupert Everett lookalike!) helped by phoning El Salobre stables for us, and arranged free local pick-up point for the same day in the afternoon. Reception also gave us a voucher for Palmitos Park (which was enthralling!) for five euros, which in total saved us 13 euros off the official ticket price. Another receptionist (lovely blonde gentleman) helped us plan our bus journey as we had to get to a specific address, and his information was spot on - thank you!
Cleaning:
Spotless - our cleaner was lovely and greeted us "Ola!" every time we saw her (they clean five days per week); she deserved a good tip! Cleverly they'd put stylish removable covers on the sofa and armchair, so unlike some hotels, you never felt like you were sitting on jaded, smelly, tired furniture - it all felt brand new and fresh. Every section of the hotel was cleaned regularly, with play and pool areas, loungers etc all being hosed down daily.
Conclusion:
Wonderful!!!! Sadly back home now, and back to the grindstone of working, cooking, cleaning... Got back only three days ago, but now seems like a distant and beautiful dream! ;)
