“Wonderful stay at Marina Suites”
Reviewed August 3, 2013

We spent 6 nights on self catering basis after much research and Marina Suites lived up to its promises. The reception were the most genuinely friendliest I have ever met, they even let us check in at 11am! our marina view was fabulous, I loved our mornings and evenings on the balcony. The apartment was huge and spotless with great air-con. A few minor grumbles were not enough storage for clothes or hangers and the usual fight for sunbeds. I went down at 9am most mornings and had a good choice though. The infinity pool is absolute heaven and my lasting memory of out holiday will be looking out to sea from the edge of the pool.

20 euros deposit for beach towels was handy. A few channels in English on the tv but not a great choice but the free wifi was great for keeping in touch with home.

The nearby beach was nice but Amadores better. We ate at yogi and Bennies for proper English food but also enjoyed the grill restaurants through the tunnel. We didn't enjoy being hassled by restaurant owners along the beach though...too much pressure! A 20 minute walk took us to the commercial centre for nightlife, chemists, shops etc but we found the marina area prettier.

We loved Marina Suites and would highly recommend.

We have been to Puerto Rico 12 times in the past 20 years, staying in various hotels. Our last 4 visits we have stayed at the marina suites and to be honest we wouldn't stay anywhere else now. The staff in the hotel are second to none, nothing is too much trouble for them. We stayed 14 nights half board, i would highly recommend this, The food is superb and never repeated. The pool area really is a joy to behold. The rooms are large and spacious with views of the beautiful marina. The hotel is spotless throughout. If you're thinking of going to Puerto Rico there really is only one place to stay and that's the Marina Suites.

Room Tip: Request a room from the 5th floor up with a marina view.

My wife and I stayed here for 10 days B&B as we decided (foolishly and expensively) to eat out each evening. With hindsight we should have chosen half board etc as we probably spent £1000 extra just on food throughout the holiday.

The Hotel is modern and good looking with excellent rooms that include modern fittings, air con, flat screen TV's and kitchen area. There is also free WIFI in the lobby and the pool area, which is useful. The pool is lovely and drops off to the sea but there are limited decent sun beds so get there early. The restaurant is good as is the breakfast restaurant.

Puerto Rico is built on a mountain so being based at ground level is a bonus as most of the resort is at the base of the mountain although there are higher based area's also.

Be aware of the 'timeshare' people, they will try the old 'you have won a prize' or 'your number has come up' etc lines only to get you in car off to a resort and to lose a day of your holiday (my wife and I learnt the hard way in Puerto Rico in 98), be polite and firm with them for the first day or so and they wont bother you again.

The resort of Puerto Rico is similar to most standard resorts - i.e. Benidorm etc. Don't expect too much culture or you will be disappointed but if you want sun and sand then this is fine.

Outside of Puerto Rico, Palmitos Park (Zoo), Sioux City (Wild West Park) and Puerto Morgan (Beautiful little Port, catch the boat from outside Marina Suites) are well worth a visit.

Stayed in Marina Suites last week. Booked out transfers through the Hotel. On arrival we were directed to a bus. Bit surprised by that as they have an image of a shuttle bus on their website. They same company charged me twice and despite the fact that l flagged it with the Hotel and the firm l still haven't got credited back yet. l requested a Marina View and when we arrived we were given a Sea view. Thankfully l had a copy of my request so they swiftly changed our room. You cant beat the Panoramic view of the Marina and Puerto Rico lit up at night. As we arrived on a Saturday night our room wasn't due to be cleaned until the Monday. When the maid did come at 9am l asked her to come back later but she never did. So our room didn't get cleaned until the Tuesday - l was a bit disappointed by this. When the cleaners are around early in the mornings they can be noisy. You can hear them dragging the heavy furniture around in the rooms that are being cleaned. l agree with the other views there is a big problem with the Sun Beds. The hotel can hold up to 900 people but only have room for about 150 sun beds and they are all very squashed together. You don't have room to even put a bottle of water down between the beds. They have a policy to remove towels after 30 mins for unattended beds however they dont really enforce it. l've seen towels on beds for hours. We gave up in the end and only went down at 7pm when most people where gone. The pool is unbelievable warm in the evenings it's just fabulous and beautiful looking out at the Atlantic Sea. We wore our bathrobes down because you could feel the cold when you got out of the pool plus the Hotels towel facilities were broke. They deliver 5L bottles of water to your room for €2 each, well worth it but make sure you order it before you run out. l ordered one to make a cup of Tea, l offered to bring it up myself but they insisted on delivery it straight away. It arrived 2 hours later... The Hotel have 3 lifts that comfortable holds 4 people in each - so given the size of the hotel they can get very busy at times. All you can eat Breakfast is €9, l would recommend even going once. The same in the evenings €15 for all you can eat, so worth a visit. On leaving there was a bit of confusion as l had asked to be picked up at 9.45am but the transfer company thought my flight was at 9.45am. Thankfully yet again l had a print out with me to prove that l requested pickup at 9.45am The hotel paid for our taxi in the end, so that was fair enough. And have now updated their website to prevent that confusion happening again. The good does outdo the bad in this Hotel though and l will go back but not in peak season....

Room Tip: If you like me love lights request a high floor with the panoramic views of the Marina.

stayed here for 1 week half board.
The good
Rooms were lovely and spacious and location of hotel first class. Views of the harbour and out to sea lovely. Free wifi everywhere in the hotel. Lifeguard at poolside. Breakfast is lovely, always a good choice.
They have good kids club, and even offer a babysitting service for those who would want to use it. Rooms cleaned everyday except Thursday and Sunday.

The bad!
The pool area is so crammed with sunbeds that I stretched out my arms one day and touched the mans feet on the sunbed behind. Im not joking they are that close together. They have loads of space outside the resturant which does not seem to be used, they could have perhaps put a smaller pool there with some sunbeds. Also getting a sunbed was an issue as the usual sunbed hoggers would put down their towels and not use them. I did see the lifeguard removing some towels, but getting a bed was somedays a no no, so we were forced to go to the beach instead.
Also the food in the evening was always cold. A good choice but everything was stone cold so we went out for a few meals.
Rooms were quite noisy too, a few nights I woke up because I could hear the people above moving furniture.
I did enjoy my holiday and would certainly not want to put people off going, but in my opinion it was a good 3 star hotel, not a four star.

Room Tip: Higher floors were better as they had a better view.

Dear Client,
Thank you for feedback published on Tripadvisor.
We are very sorry to read that you had mixed emotions regarding your stay with us and wish to comment on your statements.
Especially during the summer months we are lucky to have high accupancy but also welcome different groups of guests. Couples and singles of each age, as well as families, have many possibilities to spend their holidays with us, having a fun day at our Mini Club, relaxing by the pool, doing some outdoor sports etc,
We would be more than happy to have another possibility to convince you of our 4 star services
With best regards from Puerto Rico

Having read all the reviews decided to stay here for 2 nights with husband and 4 children.
While it is lovely and pool beautiful, there is not much to do in evening as entertainment was non existent for older children and adults.

As there is not much else to do there, some good entertainment would have been the icing on the cake. You would expect a 4 star hotel to have good as opposed to mediocre entertainment on site.

Also been constantly harassed by restaurant owners in Peurto Rico asking where you from etc etc was off putting and to be avoided.

Would not have liked to have spent more than 2 days in Puerto Rico as Anfi del Mar was nicer.

Pauly

Great place to stay, fantastic view of the marina, on a level & convenient to shops, restaurants.
Very clean & spacious room. Hotel staff all friendly. Booked our own transfers which went perfect to plan. Pool is lovely but can get a little busy & tricky to find sun.loungers but be patient as its well worth it. Join in with the simple games as its fun & you too can win a free pina colada!

Room Tip: Try and get a room overlooking the Marina
