Returned 19th Nov from a 2 week all inclusive holiday. From start to finish you could not have asked for more. Lets start off with rooms. We were on the 2nd Floor, and the views were amazing however no one could have a bad view directly overlooking amadores Beach with sea views to die for. There is free wifi in reception but you onle get 30 mins free usage on any device you have so 2 x mobile phones gets you an hour. Rooms do not have a minibar however do have a fridge for if you bring anything alcoholic with you. The rooms are spacious and very clean with maid service 7 days a week. The safety deposit comes free of charge. There is no wifi available in the rooms only in the reception are The Restaurants, shop Reception etc are on the 8th floor The.food is exceptionally good quality with a variety that would cater for the most difficult of guest. There are two settings for evening meal with designated table choosing whether you dine at 630 or 830. Wine and beer is self service and of a good quality. The bars do stock good international brands, Ballantines, Gordons, Smirnoff, or a very good equivialent of Baylies. The animation team do not stop offering the fullest of entertainment programme, staff go out of their way to entertain you, evening entertainment can be more dance oriented but they are excellent dancers. the whole hotel is spotlessley clean and pools are beautiful with plenty of sunbeds. There is a free courtesy bus running every hour down to the beach and saves a very long walk. it isnt perhaps the best hotel for people with limited mobility with the nearby Europa centre is directlly uphill but this hotel is well worth a visit and we wil definately return

Beautifully located on a clifftop with perfect views of the stunning sunsets.

As I'm sure other people have said, the hotel is upside down, in that the pools are on floor 9, reception and entertainment on 8, dining on 7, and rooms on floors 1-5. The lifts left a bit to be desired, they seemed to have a mind of their own, sounding as though they're arriving but opening on a different floor, one was not working for a fair part of the week and they were tight for space, especially with people checking out with their cases. We were on the 5th floor so walking was an option, so if you get the choice go for a higher floor.

Room: stunning seaview although couldn't quite see the sunset from the balcony. 2 twin beds pushed together rather than a double but TV with enough English speaking channels to suit me whilst waiting for the other half to get ready ;) The aircon could have been better, but left on all day with the blackout curtains pulled was just about sufficient. Bath and very powerful shower both did the job.

Food: main dining room plus additional snack bar, which doubled up as a restaurant with theme nights (Andalucian and Asian and one other, can't remember). Huge choice of foods, lots cooked in front of you - I didn't go hungry! Plus you got to see the sunsets from both.

Drink: yes.Lots of it. 5 alcoholic and 4 non-alcoholic cocktails available (ready made in jugs) and also you can get international spirits, if you ask by name. So ask for Jim Bean or Beefeater Gin and that's what you get - and in very considerable measures! Obviously local beers and spirits also available.

Entertainment: Daytime entertainment a-plenty, although they were not at all pushy if you didn't want to partake. Evening entertainment was generally by the very enthusiastic animation team - miming and dancing to songs, pretty weird at times (miming to a slow song whilst sitting down for example) but a couple of professional acts that were superb - a flamenco/salsa fusion band/dancers and the Beijing acrobats were both superb.

Pools: 2 pools, one where they played the games and the other, the gorgeous infinity pool on a level higher up. Would have been nice if they had made the infinity pool a grown up area, generally it was very quiet up there but 2nd half of the week more children were splashing in the pool! How dare they ;) Pool towels were available everyday, just change yesterdays for todays on the way to the pool.

Staff: I cannot express really how good the staff were. Hotel was spotlessly clean and from the management to the cleaners, every member of staff was friendly, polite, helpful and couldn't do enough for you. I can honestly say that I've never been to a hotel where simply every member of staff I encountered was so pleasant.

Trips:
Day trip to Mogan on the glass bottomed ferry, beautifully quaint little fishing village.
Dolphin trip - wow, wow, wow - I thought we might see some dolphins in the distance, I didn't expect to see so many, and so close. On a big Katamaran, standing on one of the hulls (excuse my terminology and spelling if wrong) the dolphins at times were literally below our feet, swimming between the twin hulls of the boat. An experience I will never forget.

All in all I would highly recommend this hotel. But for a couple of minor quibbles around the aircon and the beds this hotel was nigh on perfect.

Room Tip: The higher up the better - views from balcony and the lifts meant being on the 5th floor was the bes...

We stayed at the vistamar October 2013 half term week
This was our first experience of an all inclusive hotel
We arrived very late and didn't see the hotel until next day we were on floor two the view was great yes there is netting lower down - stopping any rock falling on people below
This didn't spoil it at all
There are 3 lifts and at busy times you may wait a few minutes - I have not stayed anywhere this large and mealtime the first day was a little daunting but once we found our way round it was fine - before going and reading some of the reviews I was concerned about the food but we were happy lots is being cooked in front of you and we choose different things most nights - there is a few theme nights with a waiter service I didn't realise this until it was too late but would have tried it
The pools were clean and of good size plenty of beds and parasols - infinity glass does need replacing !
The staff in all areas were great the hotel was very clean, maid service daily , pool towels also included - we visited the beach it is very nice but was overcrowded 10 euros for 2 beds and parosol courtesy coach was regular and had air con - evening entertainment was not to our taste - and past 10.30 pm there is little else to do but sit in the hotel bar, most people seem to disappear after the entertainment staff have finished
We had a lovely week the sun was shinning the hotel looked after us well and we would return again

Just returned from a week at the Riu Vistamar, At first appearances this hotel didnt live up to our one other previous Riu hotel as the swimming pools and sunbed area was much smaller. Once we settled in we found this to be a nice hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the animation team were excellent. As the evenings got chilly we stayed in and watched 3 shows and they were above average for this kind of hotel. The food was always very varied and of a good quality and we especially liked the two sittings which meant that it was a better experience than at the Riu Chiclana which only had one sitting and it was chaotic and noisy at meal times. The free hourly shuttle bus to the beach was very useful as this hotel is a long walk to the beach, not so bad going down but exhausting coming back up in the heat. Taxis only 3 euros though. There is a lovely walk from Amadores beach round to Puerto Rico. This is about 4 euros for return taxi. All rooms have sea view although round on one side the view is better of the beach where we had the sea and a road. The all inclusive drinks are plentiful and served quickly by pleasant staff especially the lady who loves to teach Spanish frases and is always happy and has time for everyone who mainly works at the pool bar, its people like her that make a holiday special.

Room Tip: A beach view room would be lovely but all rooms have a sea view

The food. And the wine. What can I say... If you're into fried food and food that does not taste too much of... anything... this can be the hotel your're seeking for. There is of course a lot of choices, but all in all: overcooked, fried, no spices, no flavours. And erverything is soaked in oil. Greasy and disgusting. But most people seemed to like the food, so you'll probalby be happy. Try the mojo-sauce with the potatoes; both the green and the red one- but of course; after 6 days on a potatoe-diet, you get a little bored. The wine is undrinkable, but the cava and beer is good.

The hotel is clean and the staff is very friendly.

The beds are hard. The aircon does not work properly. The view stunning.

If you like peace and quiet, go to the "solarium"!

Room Tip: Ask for 5.th floor.

Stayed at the Riu Vistamar on two separate visits to Gran Canaria, and for good reason. In an area where the choice of accommodation is decidedly mixed this hotel stands out. Situated dramatically on a outcrop of rock 100m above the sea, each room faces an panoramic ocean view. Though perhaps a little dated, the rooms are of decent, comfortable quality, and the food is good buffet style, with plenty of choice. If you like your drink, then with all inclusive you certainly get your moneys worth with an extensive bar, and for once theres no catch with all inclusive, there isn't a till in sight. The hotel is perfectly situated for anyway wishing to tour the south of the island, but also ideal for someone wanting to relax by the pool, or down by the beach below.
