We stayed here for a week all inclusive. Had a brilliant week, lovely weather and staff were very helpful. The food was lovely with plenty of things to choose from. THe hotel is set in a brilliant location with plenty of places to walk at night. It is just outside of busier Puerto Rico and offers the chance for you to walk down to the noiser area and then come away to the peace at the end of the night! Throughly enjoyable hotel would go back!

Just returned from family holiday (travelled with teenage daughters) we all had a fabulous time. Can't understand why people have given negative reports. We found all staff friendly and helpful, the Animation Team worked extremely hard they were excellent with the kids, shows which they put on were good, they all made the effort to speak to you and include you in the activities everyday ( especially Frank) and the guy who takes aqua gym is worth his weight in gold - he was brilliant getting everyone involved either watching or taking part.
Food - plenty of choice to suit everyone's fads - meal times were 7 pm or 9 pm with a set table allocated on arrival ( this can be changed if you're not happy with allocation) Roof Top Restaurant is well worth a try (nice dining experience with fabulous views with a choice of BBQ , Asian or Andalusian themed nights.
Drinks certainly weren't small measures or watered down and included lots of cocktails in all inclusive package.
Rooms - good size with plenty of storage - air condition and a ceiling fan - decor looking a little tired but rooms kept very clean and come with FREE safety deposit box.
Location - as stated in brochure on top of cliff - yes there are steep roads in and out of hotel but there is a free bus running down and back every half an hour down to Amadores beach. Taxi to Port Rico between 3 and 5 euros.
Swimming pools we found excellent - always cleaned everyday - life guard on duty - surrounded by plenty of sun beds .
Hotel had hairdressers / beauty salon - had lovely manicure - lady was lovely and friendly and did excellent job.
Overall we had a fantastic relaxing time and would definitely recommend you try it for yourselves.

Room Tip: Room 393 had great sea views over a Amadores beach and room 388 a fantastic suite. Water ferry ( gl...

Just returned from a last minute booking for 7 days at the hotel.
The brochure says that it is at the top of a cliff with great views, so cant understand why people are marking it down for its location. If you dont want a hotel that is a bus ride from the beach in a quiet resort, don't book it.
For us we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves , 2 adults and 1 grown up teenager in a standard room was sufficient and the food plentiful. We were on the 4th floor but would imagine the higher floors were even better and not as far from the bar/restaurant/pools.
Negatives - no ball games allowed in the pool, one of the bar areas smelt awfull and no air conditioning in the Gym.
Positives - Plenty of sun beds, food, availability of daytime drinks and staff.
Evening entertainment was energetic but alternatives are available just a short walk up the hill in a shopping / bar complex (sports bars & shops etc). Suggest Barbacoa which had some good acts and a good resident comedian.
Finally dont leave without going to the beach which we found was much better than Puerto Rico next door. No Time Share hasslers and lots of beach bars and shops to choose from. Also, mini golf a must.
Hope this was useful.

Room Tip: Ask for a higher floor (4th upwards) Pool and bar etc are at the top!

This is the 3rd Riu hotel we have stopped in, just having returned from The Palace Mexico in June and the Riu Yukatan last March.

The overall quality was not too bad but could be dramatically improved. While I appreciate that the Riu Palace and the Riu Yukatan in Mexico are aimed towards the American market , some things could not go un-noticed.

The towels for around the pool / beach was only open for a couple hours a day, the food was good but repetitive on a lunchtime, ie the same every day in the pool restaurant. A lot of the poolside loungers were broken and the cleanliness around the pool could have been a lot better.

The facilities are too small for the number of guests they have staying, 2 sittings for the evening meal. We were on early sitting at 6.30pm when running late on two evenings we were almost kicked out of the restaurant.

WI FI is not free and only available in the lobby/ reception and very slow.
The rooms are very dark and dated they need a desperate redecoration programme on them to brighten them up. No minibar...... But there is a fridge though not very efficient like the staff. Not even a bottle of water in there You have to get that from reception.

General cleanliness was good as was the food and drinks, but with better staff training it would improve.
Overall I could say yes go there .......but there are better hotels and a lot better Riu Hotels on Gran Canaria.

Room Tip: Try to get one facing west overlooking the beach

When arriving it was very late, however the hotel still put food out for us! The hotel itself was beautiful, more than i expected. The food was gorgeous and the views were priceless. As for the staff, they couldn't do enough for you. I fell in love with this place, the pool was amazing and the beach (a 4 minute free bus service from the hotel away) was to die for. I have been allover the med and caribbean and this hotel was one of the best. Perfect for a chilled out relaxing holiday and only €4 in taxi to the busy puerto rico! Family and couple friendly! Will definitely return!! :):):)

Just arrived back from a week at the Vistamar. After reading some of the reviews on here I did become a bit apprehensive, but this was totally unfounded. The location is great for a quiet holiday, with fabulous views, but you are still in an easy location to get to the hustle and bustle of Puerto Rico etc. The courtesy bus to the beach was great and always on time. the beach (Amadores) is lovely with some great little restaurants and gift shops. The pool area at the hotel is lovely the top infinity pool being the quieter of the two. I didn't bother with entertainment preferring a game of cards over looking the sea. The food is exceptional in my opinion. I have been to a great many all inclusive resorts and the food here was the best by far. Great choice, ranging from bog standard pizza and burgers to seafood paella. The food was also fresh and hot. I have to say you must be a really fussy eater to not find something to your taste at all meal times. I e-mailed ahead asking for a high floor room and the later dinner sitting this was all provided. The hotel has a real mix of nationalities and I think this added to the holiday rather than hindered it which has been mentioned in previous reviews. Considering we had to go in the school holidays (due to my job not because I traveled with children) it was an excellent price compared to other hotels and was worth every penny. The only downside (not the fault of the hotel but the travel company Thomson) was that the transfer was advertised as 40 minutes, this was correct on arrival but leaving for the airport we were first pick up and seemed to travel around the whole island picking people up making the transfer 1 hour 40 minutes. A complaint has been made regarding this.
If you want any further information please let me know. :-)
