We spent two weeks at the Riu Vistamar. We had a really good holiday in Puerto Rico, but we were very disappointed with the hotel service. A man who works at the reception of the hotel behaved very rudely to us. We don't know the reason. He didn't help us when we asked for help, he only said: "That's not my problem". And when we were going home and restored our room key he didn't answer anything when we said "Thank you and goodbye". He didn't even take a look at us. That was very insultig and we will never go to this hotel anymore. And in our opinion Riu Vistamar deserves only 3 stars because its staff doesn't behave polite to all its guests, pool area was not clean in the afternoons, the air conditioning did not work properly, food at the pool bar was poor (only hamburgers and hotdogs), there is no soundproofing between rooms and the corridor, no vintage wines. This is not a very good hotel for couples who wants something special during their holidays.

Good was the food at breakfast and at the dinner. And the evening shows were also very nice. And the view to the sea and the beach Amadores was lovely. Also the internet room was very good even if you have to pay for it.

We have been staying in this hotel for 10 night including New Year’s Eve
with 2 children this January. The hotel has magnificent views, perhaps the
best on the island - Atlantic ocean, Amadores beach, Teide volcano on
Tenerife island, which could be seen in clear weather. That was truly
impressive for us. However, this is probably the best that this hotel has.

The hotel itself is an old one, although I have no claims to the rooms and
the quality of cleaning. Do take with you a shower gel and a shampoo as
the hotel service offers terrible and small bags, absolutely inconvenient
to use, and the staff sometimes forgets to renew them. During the
breakfast you may not wait until elevator comes so be ready to conquer the
steps up and down.

We do not follow all inclusive system but this hotel
does not offer any other one.At breakfast you do not feel like you are in Spain with the exception of Spanish language that you hear from the staff. The food reminded me fast
food in Germany or in the UK. I have never seen famous Spanish jamon
during the whole stay. Fresh juice is offered only once in three days, the
rest is diluted concentrate. Moreover, even in the most ordinary Spanish
cafes I have never seen draught wine from the machine. Nonetheless, in Riu
it was every dinner and, in addition to it, of a very poor quality.
Fortunately, draught Spanish beer was good. At nights the staff also tended to pour
low-quality spirits, even though they have good brands under the counter.
I guess this is due to the hotel’s policy. Anyway, feel free to ask for
Beefeater, Ballanties etc. Canarian rum is really nice as well.

At the reception the staff works from different countries that has almost
no professionalism, no understanding of local life and local sights. Even
to offer a nice restaurant for the evening is a tough challenge for them.
If you want to get some information - just ask a taxi driver.

However, there is one exception. Ask Nieves who is working at the reception and she
will provide you with all information you need and answer all your
questions regarding your stay and the main attractions in Gran
Canaria. We visited a lot of places and restaurants upon her
recommendations and all of them corresponded to her descriptions. It was a
pity that she did not work around the clock. I wish there were more
efficient staff working in this hotel like her. Nieves, a huge respect to
you and thank so much!

Would we go again to this hotel? Probably not.

Just back today from our 3rd time at this hotel and we are planning our next visit very soon. The staff are lovely and friendly, they carry yourlugguage to the rooms for you. The maids leaves you lovely fruit baskets and makes your sheets into lovely designs. The food is catered for everyone with a wide selection, you definitly wont go hungry, your drink you pour youself apart for cocktails and spirits, there is no limit on food and drink. You get your sunbed towels when you arrive and they are changed everyday. I could go on and on. We really cant fault this hotel. its the best holiday destination that my family have been on x

My time to contribute now. I have enjoyed useful point of views and opinions from TripAdvisor beforehand and had pleasant stay on this hotel at last week.

When comparing oranges to oranges and not to apples, Riu Vistamar is good hotel and value for money. After all, all inclusive hotels are different ball game than hotels with "ordinary" concept.
That is sometimes forgotten here I think.

Pros
+ Stunning ocean view
+ Neat and clean
+ Friendly and exceptionally effective service
+ Complimentary garage integrated to hotel. To find parking place isn't usually so easy around those places generally speaking.
+ Complimentary bus between hotel and Amadores beach
+ Food was just OK for us. Not exceptionally good or plenty of choice but slightly above Canary Islands average.

Cons
- I totally agree opinion, seen on almost every rewiew in here. Wines served were terrible. Totally just a bad joke, all of them.
Rose and white wines were just like diluted with water but red wine had odd taste addition to that.

- Coming from Finland, my expectation is that WiFi connection should be like electricity or water. You shouldn't charge extra with that.
Would be easy positive differentiator for hotel to offer complimentary connection.
Now there is one limited area, next to reception, where WiFi is available but You must pay couple euros to be able to use it. Not huge cost and can't be very lucrative business to hotel either. Just annoying detail.

We just spent the last week here on a half term break with the family. The staff are very friendly, helpful and go out of their way to make you feel at home, they were very good with the kids too.
The food was good especially when you consider they are preparing dinner on such a huge scale. Great selection for everybody from traditional Canarian through to the ......and chips stuff. Even an food counter for the kids! There are drinks and snacks available all day and these too are of a good standard. Views are wonderful, pools great, entertainment good, free courtesy bus to the beach and taxis are cheap wherever you want to go. Even to Puerto Mogan (market on Fridays) the fare was only about €10.00. The only downside was the selfish "Sunbed reservers" who take the best sunbeds and then don't use them!
Overall I would highly recommend this for a family break.
