“Great Holiday”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 6, 2011

Just returned from a lovely holiday at riu vistamar - did a lot of research before we went and knew about the location of this hotel. It has spectacular views out to sea but as we had rooms on the first floor (requested 5th floor rooms but didn't get one) this view was slightly obscured by netting - this was not really a great issue as we don't spend much time in our rooms. Have travelled to many all-inclusive hotels over the last 10 years or so and this has to be one of the
best overall. Quality of food is brilliant and so much choice and was glad to see that not too many chicken dishes. We requested the 2nd sitting for dinner but on arrival we were allocated the 1st sitting - this could have been changed if we wanted but decided to stick with the 1st sitting which was 6.30pm - to be fair this was just a bit too early for us so we tended to go for dinner around 7.30pm which was fine. You are allocated a table and this is your table for the remainder of your stay. Not too sure if i was that keen on this system as my husband and i were wedged between 2 quite unfriendly couples - but as we ate a bit later they were nearly finished their dinner by the time we arrived. The snack bar at the pool was of high quality too with the usual pizza, burgers, pasta, salad etc - plenty of choice and a good selection of salads. Quality of drinks again of high standard and branded gin, vodka, whiskey etc widely available.
The entertainment was one of the best we have encountered at an all inclusive hotel. The entertainment reps were absolutely brilliant and their shows were of a professional standard - there was also a Michael Jackson tribute who was excellent, a 70's tribute band who were ok and another few acts which were of high standard. We also had the usual mini disco which again was good and the kids absolutely loved it - all the reps put all their energy into making the kids have a ball.
The staff were very friendly and the hotel kept spotlessly clean - the rooms were a bit dated and could have done with a revamp but as i don't spend much time in my room this was not an issue.
My only quibble with this hotel is that breakfast didn't start until 8am and as my husband is an early riser he could not get a cup of tea or coffee until breakfast started - most hotels we have visited in the past have breakfast from 7am - also the all inclusive did not start until 10.30am and again I felt this was a bit late as we were usually at the pool by about 9am and could only get water until 10.30!!!!!
Would definitely return to this hotel as we had a great time and weather was brill.

Room Tip: If you want a really good view then ask for floors 4 or 5 - but heard that these rooms can get very...

We were a family of two adults and two teenagers aged 14 and 16 and went for the English half term. We were on the third floor which had wonderful views overlooking the sea. The restaurant is on the 8th floor, and with all the wonderful food on offer climbing the stairs several times a day was great.
People reserving beds with their towels and then not turning up until late in the day was a major problem. We actually used to sit in the solarium which is an area about 2 minute walk from the pool, but overlooking the sea, which for us was perfect.
The entertainment team are fantastic and very friendly.
We did the yellow submarine trip through tThomas Cook which was very good.
We got the free shuttle bus from the hotel down to the beach, then walking along the walkway with the sea on your right we walked along to the harbour where went out on a dolphin watch boat trip. It was amazing and we saw dozens of dolphins, which was the best part of our trip.
Wifi you have to pay for. The hotel shop is fairly reasonably priced. The beauty salon is very good value for money.
Evening entertainment was good fun and the animation team do some nights, and external acts are bought in for other nights.
For a week of winter sun I would recommend it.
The hireling is on top of a cliff and the beach can be reached by walking, free shuttle bus or a taxi for about 3 euros.
Yes I would go back.

Room Tip: E mail hotel in advance, remembering restaurant is on the eighth floor.

I went here 2nd week in september. I just booked it last minute for a chill out holiday on my own. It's the 1st time I had been away on my own and I couldn't have picked a better place to go because the staff were just wonderful and I felt comfortable from day 1. The room was bigger than I expected and had a lovely view over the sea. Nice little balcony with table and chairs which was lovely to sit out on with a glass of wine. I was on the 5th floor which seemed to be the best floor for views. I was very impressed. Bathroom a bit dated but very clean,as was the room, the shower was amazing. Both the pool areas were lovely and kept very clean. The food was lovely, a wide choice and of a very good standard. Something for everyone. The waiters in the main dining room were lovely. Couldn't do enough for you and nothing was a problem. Actually all the staff were wonderful. The entertainment team worked so hard, I don't know how they stay so cheerful, they must be knackered!! Night time shows were a mixed variety, some better than others but still whiles away an evening. Short walk up the road to a commercial centre with bars with shows on if you fancy a change. I loved this hotel, I loved the little beach, I loved the views. Already planning another trip there next year.

Room Tip: lower floors don't seem to have such a good view.

Just returned from a 11 day stay at this hotel in Gran Canaria, first impression was not good as only 1 lift was working and the view from room on the 2nd floor was through a large net!
We complained as the sea view was spoilt. The very next day we were moved to the 4th floor with a spectacular view!!!Weather fantastic, lifts improved although 1 was always out of action
Food was excellent plenty of variety with many interesting drinks, white wine was not so good hence I drank rose for the duration.Water (bottled)had to be collected from reception,no other drinks in room fridge.Beach-sun bed +beach umbrella3 E each,in hotel these were free.Free coach shuttle service to beach. Internet 1 E for 15 min, newspaper 2.10 E,which I felt was cheap
Many guest left towels by pool sunbeds as early as 7.30am!Games and other activities excellent.Evening entertainment poor at times, all staff very friendly&efficient, rooms spotless.

Room Tip: Any room above the 3rd floor! I was adviced by staff that I should have e-mail them stating which fl...

Myself and my husband booked to stay at the Riu Vistimar july 2011 for 7 nights. This hotel is an all inclusive. Upon arrival the hotel staff were extremely friendly and all the staff we met were the same, nothing was too much trouble.
The dining room is enormous, well light, exceptionally clean and with a large selection of food at breakfats, lunch and show cooking in the eveninigs.
The hotel rooms are a good size and the views from the balcony breathtaking. All the rooms have a sea view as standard.
We were allocated a room on the 5th floor and our view overlooked the bay of Amadores beach. The beach is gorgeous with beach bars, sunbeds and parasols and watersports.
The hotel offers a free shuttle bus to the beach, which is advisable as the hotel is on top of a cliff top.
There are two swimming pools and a large sunbathing terrace which has stunning views. There is a large out door eating and drinking area, which offers food, snacks and drinks from 10.30am.
All in all a good hotel with friendly staff, excellent facilites, animation team work hard and are very entertaining, quality food and branded drinks, service, cleaniness and superb views.

We arrived from this hotel a bit over a week ago and I can warmly recommend it.
Everything – and I mean everything from heavenly food and wide range of drinks
to clean rooms, comfortable pool area and extremely friendly staff – was perfect!
We were there as a family, with two kids (aged 9 and 5), and they loved it, too. Kids
Club was great, and our kids attended couple of times. By participating they got their
diplomas at the stage in the evening in the Riu show, which all the kids seemed to love.
The staff were superb with kids: the clerks, cleaners, waiters and waitresses – everyone!

The food selection was excellent, and chefs really showed their best e.g. in frying pancakes
for breakfast and fish, chicken and steaks for lunch and dinner, in real-time. You can also
attend a theme restaurant where they have 3 different themes served but you have to
do reservation one day earlier. We attended barbeque theme dinner and it was great!
The pool bar served at lunch time by offering hamburgers, hot dogs, sallads, fruits etc.
so if you wanted to stay at the pool for the whole day, you could enjoy your lunch there.
The pool bar was great with all the exotic drinks from Cobacabana to Daiquiri Fresa. One
of the most popular drinks there was chocolate with whipped cream. Our kids loved it!

The hotel is very clean, and in fact if something was spilled in the restaurant then out of
the blue there was a cleaning lady cleaning the floor. I had read about towel art from here
and on our last vacation day, there was indeed beautiful towel dog on top of the bed, made
by Floora. About the pool towels, you can change them to clean every day, from 9-12 am.

The room was standard, and the balcony extended it outside. The view was to the Amadores
Beach (all rooms have sea views but not all are to Amadores Beach). I have to say that hints here to request higher floor rooms are exaggerated. I e-mailed in advance to have a higher floor room but we got 2nd floor room and we were really happy with the view, as the hotel stands on top of the high cliff so EVERY room has beautiful (sea) view. So, no need to be afraid of these “lower” floor rooms. I`m guessing they get so many requests due to TripAdvisor nowadays that they cannot fulfill all wishes.

I can warmly welcome this hotel especially for families!

This was an excellent choice of hotel, staff helpful, food standard very high lots of choice, well presented, the pool bar was very good. The entertainment staff were very friendly and put on some good shows - definetly worth thinking about for a 2nd visit. Extra bonus no fighting for sunbeds.
