Guanabara Park Apartments

We arrived this June for a week. The apartment was simply kitted out with saucepans, a hob and a toaster. We did however have a very large and cold fridge freezer. The bathroom and indeed the whole apartment was clean and fresh. The bedding etc was also fresh. As a warning, we did not have air conditioning, if you suffer in hot temperatures there is no refuge.

There was a portable television with a few channels on a pay as you go basis. Wifi is also available in Reception, you can purchase a voucher from a machine. You buy it in 2 hour blocks.

The pool area was kept very nice, plenty of sunloungers etc, it cost 1 euro for a mattress for the day. The views from the pool terrace are stunning. Bar snacks were simple but adequate and not highly priced. The staff were friendly also.

Warnings - it is located in a very hilly area and the walk is quite tedious (slippy paths, damaged steps) so take some good walking foot wear. Walking in a pair of strappy wedges is not a good idea. Also, they do offer things like parasol hire for your terrace but this is not advertised. They are not very good at the up-sale. If there is something you would like - just ask.

All in all, very basic but excellent value for the money. It was very cheap.

Room Tip: We didn't have a sea view. If offered the chance we would've upgraded so it may be worth ask...

Just returned from a weeks stay here. On arriving we were shown our room which was a great size with separate bedroom an bathroom. Very clean. Kitchen equipped with toaster, pans, kettle, plates, cutlery everything you need to self cater. Complimentary bottles water and washing up liquid/sponges. Balcony was huge with a stunning view over the marina. The maids came every other day to clean and never saw any cockroaches.

The pool is very big an you can see out to sea. It was not busy at all. Sun bed mattresses are €1 each day. The food is standard burgers, chips, sandwiches rtc but the bar does close roughly 10pm so all inclusive customers were a bit put off.

Hotel was a 15 min walk to a hiperdino cheap supermarket. And then a further 15 mins to Puerto Rico beach. So not too far. Walk back up is quitesteep but we did it everyday with no problems. But cabs are only €3.

All in all a great value for money hotel with everything you could want for a cheap break.
Our only complaints were that the shower is not very hot(when sunburnt this doesn't really matter though!)

just returned from Guanabara park where we had an all inclusive 7 day stay. What we didnt know was that this place is desperately trying to sell off the apartments, and the hotel staff have been reduced to the minimum... for each shift there are 1 receptionist and 1 barman who has to cook all the meals whilst serving at the bar handling food one minute then serving and taking money at the bar , with no hand washing in between and no attention as to whether the food is cooked or not!on occasion we had raw chicken legs,on another night cooked pork from a previous night mixed with raw pork in a luke warm sauce. We have been to all sorts of all inclusive resorts but never seen such a poor chioce... typical breakfast was baked beans poor quality economy bacon and sausages, chips, rubbery cold dried up fried eggs, and economy sliced bread. Dinner/lunch was chips, rice, pasta and a meat, there was salad in the small chiller cabinet which was added to occasionally. The hot buffet is not replenished .
There were only few of us who tried to eat at the hotel, other guests took one look at the food on offer and went away shaking their heads. On Saturday night the buffet and bar was shut early so none of us had a choice!
All the apartments have tiny 12 litre capacity water heaters so that gives you 2 minutes max hot water to shower, which is a challenge if you want to wash your hair, in fact the only way is to wash it in cold!No chance at all of a bath, there is only enough to fill a basin, to reheat the water it takes 15 minutes so you need a good rotor if there is two of you!
Whilst we were there the boss arrived and strutted around which did mean the chef/barman put on a uniform rather than his dirty gray trackie bottoms, interesting to see that he didnt eat any of the food!
So if you want to eat without worrying about the consequences and you want to be able to shower properly i would go else where.

I loved this place, lovely view, nice people and lovely weather. The pool was very nice to. A super market near by and good restaurants. I recommend that you hire a car for a day or two to get to know they island as there are lovely places to go and mountain views to see. The beaches are amazing too! I definitely recommend this place to others. But there are a few negative things to say like the walls of he hotel rooms are a bit thin so you can hear your neighbors and you have to pay for television 2 euros per day with only 1 English channel. Also you have to pay for the sunbed mattress 1 euro per day but apart from that it was a lovely holiday and we are definitely going back. Jillian age:12

we booked the guanabara and didnt have a clue what part of puerto rico it was in.its in a very quiet little cove not far from the harbour.this place is perfection if you want a getaway from the crowds in peak season.the views were lovely and the apartment was quite large and a nice surprise.couldnt say anything about food/drinks.we like to get out and about in the fantastic weather.just a nice stroll away is las olas shopping centre(.not a big one).there are some fantastic places to eat especially the millenium restaurant.all in all yet another fantastic holiday and we would definatlely stay here again!!!!!!!!

Room Tip: lovely walk to wherever you want to go but get a taxi back.

We had done our homework & knew the property was way up in the hills with great views of the harbour. We weren't disappointed although if you don't like hills & steps you should book elsewhere. On arrival we checked in and the staff really just pointed us in the general direction of our room. The room was clean/tidy with a lovely balcony view.If you didn't know Gran Canaria was very hilly this location confirms that. The barman was really helpful & friendly but you aren't bombarded with info.If it gets windy then it sweeps up the valley & the property gets chilly. One piece of info needed is a map of paths/steps which really would help with short cuts down to the port & other beaches as we spent wasted time walking to deadends!Taxis are cheap & plentiful so you can spend money on them rather than walk. The beach is pretty good but walk around to Playa de Amadores & wow!!really clean with numerous bars/kiosks & extremely clean loos. All in all great place with brilliant weather but really hilly...but also on leaving..the airport is a shambles..never again flying from Las Palmas..We were dropped there at 4am & everything shut!!Never walked so far to check-in bags the walk miles to departures the try to find coffee...No Info is not good!!

We stayed hear between 27th April - 4th May 2013. We booked to stay at The Guanabara but were taken across the road to the Inagua Apartments (some of these apartments have been purchased by the Guanabara). The apartment was a good size and had recently been refurbished with a new kitchen/bathroom, had a large balcony which had the sun all day and looked down towards the town so all good really. There was a pool at the Inagua that we could use but no pool bar so we always used the pool at the Guanabara. The apartments are a decent walk down to the marina but a pleasant walk, although not so pleasant on way back up! As others have said, we also walked down and got a taxi back up most of time. Lots of nice bars and restaurants at marina, We went self catering so used the supermarket down the hill for water, breakfast stuff, there is a small supermarket as part of the Inagua but this is more expensive with not a lot of choice. Pool is lovely and kept very clean, plenty of sunbeds but this may be because of the time of year as it wasnt very busy. There are a few restaurants in a row before you hit the tunnel going to Marina which are also good, and we would certainly recommend a meal at the El Guanche Grill, fantastic food and service here! Our room was cleaned every other day with 2 towel changes in a week.
