Stayed at hotel from 4th March 2013 for one week. Stayed in room 2102 which was easy to find
and very nice with good views of bay and beach. Sun on balcony till 2pm. food was very good
especially breakfast and dinner. Lunch had smaller selection. Evening entertainment was held in
pool bar which can be chilly. It look like the old lounge bar was converted to the second restaurant
when they went all inclusive. Pool area is strange as all the beds are all around the edge of the pool 3and 4 deep which makes access awkward. They be better pulling them back away allowing people to walk around the edge. Adult area was excellent. Staff very helpfull and rooms very clean.Restaurant staff could smile a bit. Would not go back purely as very big and we like a little smaller. Only reason.

Room Tip: Choose rooms in block 1 or 2. Access to lifts are from reception

I will starts on the negatives: it is a total nightmare finding your room on our arrival we was given a map and informed we needed to take 5 different lifts to get to our room , (lifts 8 and 9 did not work all week ) we ended up walking the stairs and slopes all week , my advice is to ask for a high number room pool level. I could not sleep that well as the beds are very hard.
on a positive note: Food was really good for a 3 star hotel, we had a beautifull view from the balcony overlooking the harbour, on a plus side we enjoyed having sun beds on the balcony as it was sheltered from the wind and was very sunny, the rooms was cleaned every day and clean towels were left.
I do think this hotel really do try to make your holiday experience a good one.
The adult area is really nice with plenty of sunbeds.
Choice of drinks in the bar by reception is very limited for choice so you need to go to the pool bar for more choice.
We have been to puerto rico many times and always have a fab holiday it is a fantastic location .

Room Tip: High floor pool level

My friend and I have just returned from a week's AI stay here. This is not my first AI holiday but after Egypt, was my worst. I can't believe we were staying in the same hotel as some of the people writing reviews here.
The room was indeed basic and a little tired but was very acceptable. Towels were so worn they didn't do a very good job. Beautiful views and lovely, large terrace area.
The hotel was over 90% full of Scandies. The majority of whom were very rude. A smile was returned with a scowl on every occasion - so we gave up. They didn't seem to have a problem staring you out or tutting if you were using the toaster or coffee machine and they had to wait their turn.
Food was also acceptable but sometimes cold. Plenty of choice except for veg. and salads. Brussels sprouts only cooked veg one night but they reappeared for 3 nights. Unfortunately the labels were all mixed up so you had to guess what you were choosing. No cold cuts or cheese in the evening (this is probably because the Scandies have them for breakfast and the hotel was catering to them since they were in the majority). Soups were like dishwater.
Drinks - this was the real let down. Beer was fine if you drink it. Red wine not great but just about drinkable. Gin drinkable but no lemon slice. Honey rum nice but it's too sweet to drink more than one. The white wine, cava, whiskey, sangria were undrinkable. We ended up buying our own wine and drinking our own spirits which we had brought with us so it turned out an expensive AI. Bar closes at 11pm and you are thrown out at 12.
If you are getting the bus to the beach at 11.10 or 11.40 make sure you get your ticket at reception first as the grumpy bus drivers won't wait.
Staff were very nice on the whole except for a couple in the bar. What struck us is they didn't smile at you first, but once you smiled at them you got a beaming smile back. Guess that was a result of dealing with the Scandies.
The beach at Amadores is beautiful and lots of nice places to eat on the beach. Best pizza we've ever had out of Italy at Ciao Ciao. Anfi Beach also beautiful but eateries/drinks a bit more pricey.
Europa Centre up the hill has a few good bars. We had a very good night in The Piano Bar.
We would not go back to this area between October and April as this is the season when Scandinavians are catered for. To be fair, if our stay at this hotel was out of this season it would have probably been better - except for the drinks situation.

Room Tip: Near the lifts and higher floors.

just returned after a six week all inclusive holiday. been coming to puerto rico for 15years,the puerto azul is the best hotel we have stayed in. my only complaint is children are going into the adults only area after my concerns it was dealt with but they are not consistant enough.

Room Tip: higher floors have less a/c unit noise and better views.

We have just returned and had a lovely stay
I start with negatives.

The walk to the room.through the crowds of people at the pool area and bar, quite intimidating.
The distance from reception to our room we were in block 400.the lifts to go down to room and down 2 steep paths even worse when having to come back up.but you are based in the middle of a mountain. The views were amazing though.
Room it was a 3* room very basic but clean, the beds were ok two twins. It was classed as a studio it had a fridge kettle and cups the TV was all foreign channels but you could get a card for English ones. Also first impressions before getting to the room was a bit depressing and gloomy.safe 12 uero a week.
There was only about 10 English there but we had no trouble with other europeans a bit loud but ok.

Now for the positives... drinks were very good and had a real good system help yourself bar for beer, wine and mixers, tea coffee hot chocolate. There was every drink you would need, Malibu peach snaps baileys and the lovely honeyrum. Lovely food i always found something, what i liked it had temperatures on the counters and always stocked up, again a good system we didn't eat at the pool area it did look nice, hot-dogs burgers salad. I would say the food more 4*.The adult section was perfect as the main pool was heaving the sunbeds were close but lovely big pool a bit cold but it was febuary..We were one of the people who cued up for a bed in the adults area not because there would be no beds only because we had to go passed for breakfast so it made sense to do this to get rid of our towels and bits, it saved going back to the room.I liked the hot tubs although they are cold.It was interesting that people put them on and waited until they got warm made us laugh.they had a couple of drinks machines in this area too.We did walk up to the uropa center and walked back wasn't too bad there was a bus that took you to beach.Entertainment was every evening and very good for a 3* All in all if you can forget about the room and area it was lovely.

Room Tip: block 200 for views across beach and sea, 400 for sea view 500 for pool area no lifts/,steep paths s...
