Approx. 20 minute walk down hill to beach and shops. Recommend taxi back up hill, approx. 3.50 euros.
Arguiniguin (think that is how it is spelt) market on a Tuesday morning, 6 euros each way in taxi, nice for some more unique souvenirs. Could get bus for cheaper travel, think it would probably be 1 euro each way.
Bus to maspalomas 2 euros each way, walk along beach and up path to camel rides for 12 euros each. There is also Aqualand in Maspalomas.

Although we arrived at 3 in the morning the receptionist was lovely and welcoming and the restaurant was open for late arrivals/departures. All of the receptionists throughout our stay were helpful and willing to give advice on best markets, good restaurants and how to get to all these places.

After reading some bad reviews about this hotel I was certainly a bit apprehensive but I think it was absolutely great value for money. Don't know if most people are expecting A La Carte but I think you'd be hard pressed to find this at any all inclusive without paying an absolute bomb. For the money you pay for this hotel the food is great.

As well as a wide range of meal times (approx. 2 and a half hours for each meal) there is also a snack bar from 12 - 5 which is self serve and usually had hotdogs, burgers, sandwiches, salad, chips.

In the pool bar you can help yourself to fruit juices, water and the coffee machine or go to the bar for alcoholic and fizzy drinks.

Room was good, the fan was free which I found amazing as you usually have to pay for air con or fans. It also had a fridge which was great as although on an all inclusive we liked to have a bottle of water in the room. Great view of the sea as well. It was two twin beds that we pushed together but I find that with most hotels abroad.

Lovely terrace with sunbeds, hot tubs and great view of the sea, not many kids on this bit as they sat by pool so was nice and peaceful!

We went in September so was probably a bit quiter than high season but we never had trouble getting a sunbed.

Definitely would recommend to others.

Myself, wife and 18 month old just got back from a weeks stay yesterday. We went all inclusive for our stay. I agree with other comments with the staff being really helpful and friendly. Sunbeds were plentiful and always available any time of day. Thats where the positives end im afraid.

They were repairing 2 of the pools during our week including kids pool, must be due to complaints about the broken tiles so we chose to go to Amadores beach every day instead which is a must for anyone visiting. We got a cheap bottle of wine left in our apartment one day as an apology for the work being carried out at the pool but this didnt make up for the inconvenience.

The kids playground was laughable, 2 plastic rocking horses and a little slide, nothing like the brochure pics!

The food was awful unless you want to eat chicken nuggets and chips for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Food was always cold. They put out peas for breakfast two of the mornings?? Even the boiled eggs werent cooked properly. We ended up having fruit most mornings. Lunch at the pool is prob the best meal of the day but its hot dogs, burgers, chips, chicken nuggets etc not many healthy options at least its hot. We ate out every night as we couldnt stomach the garbage they were dishing out.

We had a great view from our room of the marina but had to get 3 lifts to get to it and at peak times such as breakfast you can be left waiting an eternity to get one. The rooms are fairly average holiday apartments, nothing special.

The resort is at the top of a huge hill which isnt ideal with a buggy, taxi's are plentiful but its an added cost everyday that we didnt expect.

Im just spelling out the facts about this resort, we enjoyed our holiday, we loved puerto rico but would prob stay down near the marina next time round, I defintely wouldnt stay here again, its too far out of the way and the all inclusive is only worth if you plan to make your money back at the bar, so would prob suit a younger crowd.

Thomas Cook Rep Carl was excellent and helpful, staff friendly and room clean. Excellent Views over bay. Food was good with choices and don't need to have burger and chips as long as you are prepared to try what is provided. ( I tried squid for the first time in my life.) We did speak to people who didn't like the food but they seemed to think they had to have pie and chips every day. One of the pools was being repaired and a complimentary bottle of wine was provided even though the other pools were open. The entertainment was OK and as good as you would get FREE in any bar at any resort unless you want to go and pay for it with expensive drinks.
Overall we had an excellent holiday but if you do not want to walk use the shuttle bus or taxis which are cheap as chips. The walk to the centre of the port was great and you get a good view of the way down. Shuttle bus ony 1.80 for two of us (not worth worrying about the price).

We arrived back on Mon 12th. The hotel is very clean and the staff are friendly. We didn't have any problem with sun loungers - except one attacked me and I have a scrape on my arm. It was broken. Some of the tiles were missing from the pool but caused no problem again.

If you have children there is plenty of entertainment for them, but I wish there was a cut off point for them to be up. One in the morning is a bit steep and as there was only the pool bar open there was no choice for adults to have a quiet drink and a chat.

The entertainment was average some better than others, but you don't expect to have the best in any hotel where ever you stay.

The biggest downside is the food. It's COLD. Breakfast is OK but you need to put it in the microwave to heat it up. There is a good selection at all the meal times but as I said it's all cold. There is plenty of fresh fruit at every mealtime sometimes it's warmer than your meal.

We have been to Puerto Rico four times and we love the resort itself but we would not be staying at Puerto Azul again.

Please dont be put off by negative reviews, this is a 3 start hotel, if you wany 4 or 5 star then pay for it, if not, like me you want a good quality holiday without too much expence then this is the place, fantastic weather, good hotel ,good food, great staff, flowing drinks all day (at one point I had to ask him not to put so much whiskey in my glass). Pool area is huge, plenty of sun loungers and there is a part that is for adults only with jacuzzis and double sun loungers, do not base your choice here though as there tends to be a couple of kids in there at any one time. One thing you do get that is 5 star, the views, we stayed in room 2702 and had fantastic views all over Puerto Rico, excellent Holiday for price!

Room Tip: The higher the better.

My Boyfriend and I have just returned from a week’s holiday and had a great time, the hotel was lovely and like most of the other reviews the only real problem is the air con, however fans are provided. The pool area and the views are great, the hotel is very clean and generally the staff were all very happy to help. Other than the aircon the only issue we had were cockroaches, unfortunately we did have quite a few in the apartment and when we asked if we could change rooms were told no by a quite abrupt lady on reception (Esmarelda) who wasn’t really interested in why we wanted to change. We put it down to the fact we were on a ground level and had gardens around the apartment, nothing to do with the cleanliness of the rooms but never the less it’s not much fun! The rest of the staff were fantastic. The location of the hotel is great for people who want to go to the local bars etc. there is the main area at the bottom of the hill but there is also a smaller shopping area full of bars etc. just up the hill from the hotel (5 min walk), it was fairly quiet up there but there are a few really nice bars, one to recommend is the cocktail lounge and piano bar, really chilled out and great cocktails.
In the main shopping area at the bottom of the hill we found the guys trying to get you into their restaurants quite annoying and very persistent.. One evening we decided to eat out of the hotel and after walking around we decided on a small restaurant called "La Taberna de San Miguel" where the waiters didn’t try and drag us in and in fact we had the most amazing steak! Would certainly recommend this place for a nice meal out. Over all we had a great holiday, The AI service at the hotel was great, lots of choice with the food and it changed each day so we didn’t get bored. Despite the cockroaches we would recommend this holiday, great for couples like us wanting a nice relaxing break.

Room Tip: If possible try and ask for a room that is not on a ground level to avoid the bugs etc, also the hot...

My boyfriend and I have just returned from one of the best holidays we have ever had.
Although the hotel is a 3* its is more like a 4/5*. Hotel is lovely, a huge pool area and an adult only zone with 9 jaccuzzi hot tubs, double sun loungers and an amazing view!
Food in the hotel was lovely, we were there a week and didnt eat the same meal twice.
Drinks were great, on all inclusive you could have any drink including spirits, wines, cockatials and even champagne!
The apartment was great, spacious and very clean with maids coming in daily to change towels and bedding etc.
The only negative thing i could say about it was the lack of air con in the room however there is a fan and we coped fine as the weather cools right down on a night.
The resort itslef was lively on a night with lots of bars and a few clubs. There was a trip to another resort to go to Pacha club, Ministry of Sound club and 3 others which was only 10 euro including transport, great value for money and we would definately recommend it.
There are two beaches, the Amadores beach is definately worth a visit.
we went 1st of september and the weather was amazing- up to 40 degrees some days!
Overall the holiday was amazing and i would highly recommend this hotel to anyone, especially young couples like us. Amazing hotel, lovely food and drink, friendly staff and a fab resort!...we will definately return soon!
