Just back from eleven nights in PR. Stayed at the Ipanema Park apartments. Overall was really happy with the place. The apartments are spacious and the balcony was big with a lovely view of the marina. They were spotless and were cleaned to a very high standard throughout our stay.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. The little onsite supermarket was handy and didnt have overflated prices like most other apartments i have have stayed in. It is in a decent enough location, down a load of steps and you find a small little centre with a few bars and restaurants and a larger supermarket. The main commercial centre is about a 15 minute walk or 3euro in a cab and the beach about a five minute walk.
Like a previous poster the only downside was the amount of spanish families/groups there that seemed to think they owned the place! Shouting and roaring from the pool up to the 2nd story apartments. Nearly got knocked into the pool by people barging past me! Blaring really bad music all day!
One day an English father and son were playing catch in the pool with an Irish father and son when there was very few people around and it was very tame, when a member of staff came over and told them to stop. However a few days later around 7 spanish guys were playing volleyball in the pool taking over the whole pool and nothing was said.
Small things like that added up over the 11 days and by the end even though I liked everything else about the place i don't think id go back.
Great value though!

The hotel itself is absolutely spot on. It has like all the reviews says, fantasic views over the marina, and the beach is a 15 minute walk just pas the marina. The one and only downpoint about our holiday was the spanish residents. The rooms are supposed to be for a maximum of 4,we were in B314 and next door in B313 there were 14 of them in there. They were an absolute nightmare from the minute they moved in to the minute they left - urinating on OUR patio, spitting and gobbing all over the public areas, shouting at the top of the voices at all hours of the day an night - completely taking over the pool and the pool area to the point where you just couldn't sit there at all. They had more people moving in and out chucking their luggage over the wall at the back to sneek in thier family and friends and not pay for them. Its a shame the management didnt act and sort it out, as this would have been a perfect holiday if it wasnt for this.

There are more miles good points, as long as you don't come here during the spanish school holiday time. I am definately coming back but out of holiday season. Plenty of trips to do in the day. Oh also - ignore the weather forecasts you google. We have had wall to wall sunny days and the forecasts were saying max of 26 etc and clouds/rain and even thunderstorms. All wrong!! Weather fab. We even had the Sirocco Winds on Thursday 12th, and it was 46c (132f) and the locals couldnt even cope and all went inside. Amazing to experience one - you will never forget it....Oh yes the bar staff are lovely and do some damn good grub and its really reasonably priced. 3.50 for a burger, 4.50 for a huge chicken salad, cheaper than eating out by a mile.

Dear Madam,

We thank you for taking the time to share your experience at Ipanema Park.
During some bank holidays, it may happen that we have clients from different nationalities with different behaviours and we always try to supervise it and have more and more control in special cases.
We would be glad to see you again in Ipanema Park.
Sunny regards from Gran Canaria.

We returned yesterday from a fantastic Holiday at Ipanema Park, The staff there are amazing and made us feel very welcome. The bar is run by Julie and Dean, but they are ably assisted by Brian, sarah and Radu. Happy Hour is not to be missed - 4pm-5pm and 9pm-10pm every day! Cheers Radu for keeping the drinks flowing! Top Barman!
it is also a great place to explore from, 5 min walk to the marina and beach and only 10mins to the centre where all the night life is. There are some great restauraunts and bars closer if you prefer and there is no noise at night so your sleep wont be disturbed. The rooms are very comfortable, coffee maker, toaster, kettle and tv, although we didnt make much use of these as we where out eating most of the time. The bar at the hotel does some great food, the Full irish breakfast has to be tried and there are many other good restauraunts nearby. If you like big steaks try El Toro in the main centre, and if you fancy having a right good laugh go to the Funnyboys Bar, not to be missed!
To sum up we had a great time at Ipanema Park and we can't wait to go back

I have just returned from a week at Ipanema Park, and I can honestly say that we made a great choice of hotel, despite initial worries about how cheap it was compared to everywhere else in Puerto Rico.

The hotel is on the port/marina side of the resort. It is relatively quiet in the hotel throughout the day and night, although you're only a 5-10 minute walk from bars, restaurants etc if you don't want a quiet night in. We didn't have any noise problems, no trouble from other guests at the hotel, and it was never packed at the pool or at the poolside bar at any point. We spent a couple of evenings sat out on the terrace enjoying a meal and a bottle of wine, and never once felt that we were annoying anyone else.

We were pleasantly surprised by the types guests at the hotel too. Of course this could well vary week to week, but most of the guests were groups of adult friends, families with older children, and couples.

One point which we were well aware of from reading other reviews was the fact that there are 131-166 steps to reach the hotel (depending on which floor of the hotel you are on). While these aren't as unmanageable as you'd imagine (you certainly get used to them after the first few trips!) you should probably bear this in mind, as if you have a pushchair or walking difficulties, you'll find it a struggle to get to and from the hotel without a taxi. Some of the steps are pretty well worn, and we did find ourselves losing our footing a couple of times.

The apartment itself is very clean, well furnished and spacious considering that it's not really that big. Our apartment had a kitchen dining table with 4 chairs, and was more than big enough for 4 adults to sit down to dinner. The kitchen area is fairly minimal, 2 ring hob and a sink with no real counter/preparation space (we used the kitchen table instead for whatever food preparation we wanted to do.) There are plenty of cooking utensils, plates, cutlery, and 4 or 5 types of drinking glasses stocked. The bedroom had two single beds, which are comfortable enough for a week or two, and a fitted wardrobe with enough space for 2 or 3 adults clothes/possessions. The living room had a small coffee table, a sofa-bed (which was actually more comfortable than the twin beds!) and a TV which you have to rent the remote control for. The bathroom was quite simple, just a shower and a toilet. I can't imagine it would have been very easy to bathe my kids with just a shower and no bath, so be careful of that too. Be warned, the showers tend to leak over the whole bathroom floor! Ask the cleaners for an extra towel or two for the sole purpose of mopping up the floor after a shower or you'll be slipping all over the place. There is a little vanity area and sink outside of the bathroom and bedroom which was so useful for us, with 3 women trying to get ready at the same time each day! Our terrace had a small patio table with three chairs, and we spent more time eating and drinking out here than we did in the kitchen. There is a safe in the bedroom, and you can rent the key for this for 2.50 a day. They also rent out air conditioning units for about 60 euro a week, however we didn't find it necessary to rent one - as hot as it was, as long as you keep the curtains closed throughout the day while you're out, the apartment won't be unbearable at night. Our main "problem" with the apartment (which was quite minimal really!) was that there are hardly any power points in the apartment. We were almost fighting over places to plug in our various appliances - there is one point by the sink in the bathroom/vanity area, one point by the sofa bed, and one in the kitchen and that's it! They could really do with having some more put in.

The apartment complex is huge! There are some apartments with 2 floors, some villa style houses. All of the accommodation seems to be quite quiet and secure with the exception of the few that are at the pool (apartments B-100 to about B-115). We were offered an apartment down here when we checked in, and I'm glad we didnt take it! The pool area was never busy (sun loungers get snapped up very early, as they do at most hotels!) but the kids at the pool can get a little loud as you'd imagine.

There wasn't much life at the poolside bar. Most, if not every night of our stay, the bar closed early (around 7pm) because nobody was down there. The food is lovely at the poolside bar, and not too badly priced. About 6.50 for a burger and chips, 2.00 for a bowl of chips and 5.50-7.50 for a salad. Portions are huge, and will probably keep you filled all day. Staff are very friendly, and there are often a few nights a week where they will put on an all-you-can-eat buffet for 9.95, either a BBQ or Italian for instance.

There didnt seem to be much in the form of entertainment at the hotel - there was a children's entertainer in the afternoon. She keeps the children entertained in the pool with pool games, card tricks, a clown act (which you'll be regrettably singing along to by the third day) She also put on water aerobics and darts for adults some days. Some evenings, there was a singer at the poolside bar which brought in some entertainment, but to be honest, you'll probably be out of the hotel most evenings.

There's a small supermarket on site, which stocks a lot of things. I didn't find it much more expensive than the larger supermarket at the bottom of the hill, however they tend to close randomly throughout the day and return when they feel like it, so you can never rely on going there to get things.

There are quite a few sun loungers and parasols available at the pool side, although they are usually snapped up very early in the morning, and annoyingly, a lot of the guests who "hold" them with their towels won't return at all that day - very annoying when you come down and there's nowhere for you to sit! Aside from that, as long as you're down there early enough then you should be fine. All the beds are bolted to the floor, so they can't be moved around. Sounds like a nightmare, but it means that people can't drag them around and mess the place up. You're also high enough up the hill to get a nice breeze, making it more comfortable to sit outside in the summer heat! The way the hotel is positioned means that the whole pool area gets the sun from sunrise to sunset which is great. The pool is a decent size, although even with the kids section, the main pool is usually full of children so you can't really spend much time in there if you want to relax.

One word of advice, if there are 3 or 4 of you traveling, save yourself the hassle and get a taxi to and from the airport! The taxi companies have set fares of 50 euros each way between the airport and hotel, and while this will work out at about 33 euros round trip per person for 3 of you, it is worth it to not get a transfer on a bus!!! Please listen to us on this, lol. 1) The bus drivers drive like maniacs along the narrow, mountain roads while the bus is balancing on the edge of the mountain (no kidding!) 2) The transfer takes about 1.5 to 2 hours, compared to 45 minutes in a taxi, and 3) the road to the hotel is constantly lined with cars making it impossible for the bus to get all the way up to the hotel! The other option is for you to drag your cases up 166 steps. For our return journey, this meant that the time is took the bus to finally get to us to pick us up, we managed to get to the airport just in time for our flight to close. Not worth it!

The only downside to our stay was the reception staff. We only saw one man on reception, and he almost ruined the whole experience for us. Very rude, extremely unhelpful - one evening, we asked him to call a taxi for us to take us out of the resort, and he had the nerve to call us "lazy *insert profanity here*'s". Also, while waiting for our bus to arrive to take us back to the airport, we could see it struggling to get up the hill to pick us up, so we simply asked him if buses usually had a problem reaching the hotel, and he was unnecessarily rude to us, telling us he didn't care, and for us to drag our suitcases down the 166 steps because he wouldn't order a taxi for us to get us down to the bus.

There is wi-fi at the hotel at a cost of 6 euros a day or 20 euros a week. There are also 3 computers with internet access for 10c a minute. Two are in the reception area, 1 in the poolside bar. The reception area also has a bookcase with novels for you to borrow if you need something to read by the pool - very handy!

All in all, I would definitely stay here again! I was more than impressed with it, and although it doesn't have a whole lot going on in the sense of entertainment or activities, it has a pool, sun loungers and a nice apartment, and that's all we needed! Don't be put off by the price or the 2* rating.
