We couldn't really fault the Colina Mar when we stayed two years ago in terms of cleanliness so we had no qualms in booking again. We emailed ahead and requested a room nearer to the small pool as we knew these rooms to be quieter.
On opening the door to 72 we were delighted. The refurb that was starting last time is well under way. The room was sparkling clean the walls are now emulsioned with lovely natural tones with new soft furnishings to match. The wardrobes are glossy white with new handles and loads of new hangers. The bedding and matching cushions in lilac tones set the room of beautifully. The new mattrasses were very firm but not a problem for us. Gone is the old seventies pampas coloured bath has gone replaced with large white shower tray the shower was excellent great pressure and endless hot water and new blue towels replacing the dated brown.
The old metal windows and patio doors have all been replace with white upvc and all have a secure locking system. The kitchenette had new kettle, toaster, cutlery and and plates and MUGS replacing the little cups and decent sized stemmed wine glasses. Washing up liquid and cloths are now provided.
Out on the balcony there is a lovely new set of chairs and tables very comfortable to sit in and marvel at the amazing views down to PR.
Outside the whole façade has been given a coat of pure white and the old green railings were being replaced with shining chrome. During our stay more new sunbeds and umbrellas were delivered and put to use. The whole of the Colina Mar has tastefully been brought bang up to date. The pool areas were cleaned every morning and everywhere was kept clean to a very high standard.
Within 10 minutes of reporting a fault with the safe the maintainance man was at our door. All the staff we encountered were lovely and helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will certainly return. Thank you to all at Colina Mar

Room Tip: Quieter rooms towards the small pool all rooms will have an amazing view.

Had an 11 night stay at Colina Mar. 4th visit to this hotel and it never fails us. Booked through Low cost who were brilliant, no problems at all .. Except for the 2 hour transfer from airport to hotel.. If you can budget for a taxi (about 65 euros each way) then go for it. Only takes 35 minutes from airport to hotel.
Good to see all rooms had been updated since our last visit and the views from the balconies just get better and better. Could never tire of the vista especially if you get a room overlooking the beach/ harbour and marina. We were in room 206 and had a great view.
Peurto Rico has changed alot over the last 10 years that we have been going there, and for the better. There are so many fantastic restaurants and bars all at reasonable prices that there really is no need to go all inclusive. We went self catering knowing that we could upgrade to all inclusive if we wished and the reports on the food was good, but we chose to venture out as we love the area and know the area so well. Every time we venture back to Gran Canaria, we feel we are going home. The staff are really friendly especially Juan who looks after the small pool bar during the day. If you visit here ask him to play Gypsy Queens, We gave it to him as a gift and he loved it as its multi lingual.
One person you must track down while you are there is BOB GORMAN. Well popular in the Peurto Rico area and is a fabulous singer and guitar player. Check out his cruise on a Monday on the pirate ship that is moored in the Marina.
Getting back to the hotel. We had regular towel changes and beds made. The rooms are very clean and has all you need. All in all, a wonderful holiday at the Colina Mar and the more you go there the more you will love it. We have stayed in several hotels in the area but always go back to the Colina Mar.

Room Tip: Go for a high room above the small pool for peace and quiet and a great view

Or are they just mainly bars? Thinking of going here but not sure of the location as yet! Would love it if there was any clothes shops too?!

Just returned from a really relaxing and enjoyable 7 night stay at the Colina Mar Appartments with my other half. We went all inclusive and would definitely do it again. The meals was buffet style with variety of different foods and there was many different types of drinks to choose from. The staff service was excellent. They really got to know us.
The rooms were very spacious and modern with a balcony showing a lovely view of the sea and the town below.
The nightly entertainment was very good with different shows on each night including a parrot show and live music from different acts. Oscar was very good at organising the entertainment for adults and children throughout the day and night.
We would definitely go back there and the weather was absolutely gorgeous. I wouldn't say there is a bad thing about this hotel.

A never before inclination of mine, I felt I had to do a mid-holiday report to balance others. My wife and I (and sometimes other family & friends)  have stayed at the Colina Mar on many occasions, by virtue of that fact and that we are here right now, midway through a 2 week holiday, together with previous reports I have done on the Colina Mar ... I hope will add some moderation to a distorted (if not obviously over-praised) report.
There is no argument that this is a good VFM hotel (for it's price), but to award it 5/5 is a serious misrepresentation which would disappoint many that consider Trip Advisor a reliable source of advice.
As already stated this is not our first visit by any means, or my first report so please see my previous reports for many points which remain the same or back up the current situation.
Rooms: Every room is the same in size/layout; A twin bedded bedroom, with bathroom, kitchenette & thru lounge. Sofa has option to double as 3rd/4th bed (at a push) not great but workable for families. If self catering then provision is electric kettle, microwave & double hob with limited pots & pans etc. Most if not all rooms now fully refurbished (great improvement for those who have visited in last 10 years) so now of good standard but no longer small bath/shower just a large shower.
TV (pay for at reception) provides a couple of British channels but no more, disappointing considering the ratio of British Visitors ... I am suspecting they are developing a preference for Scandinavian visitors but also realise that Brits are more regular bookers. A Safe in the room can be hired at additional cost.
The complex has 2 pools, a main one with bar/restaurant and evening bar close by, and a smaller and quieter one (El Risco bar/cafe open 11:00 - 17:00) further along. Both pools are clean and well maintained with as many sunbeds as space can allow.Evening Entertainment:The standard here has declined in recent years, several years ago people staying at other hotels would even call in on particularly good nights, but now it is little worthy of mention. If looking for reasonable entertainment then a trip to the Barbacoa/Barbarossa (whatever) in the Europa Centre (5 minutes or less walk) or down to the main centre will be required.
Locality: I had not covered this on any of my previous reports (perhaps erroneously thinking people would at least know the resort).IMHO Puerto Rico is about the best all-round resort in Gran Canaria, if younger/gay then you may prefer Maspolamas/ Playa Del Inglis (livlier resorts), but the Puerto Rico/Puerto Mogan end of the island has much to offer.About 40 minutes drive from the airport (perhaps longer on coach transfers) it is a resort with limited low level accommodation but also has the main Commercial Centre in the low lying area, other accommodation climbing up a steep hillside, not necessarily a problem as taxis top to bottom are only about €3.50. The elevation also of course provides the spectacular views. Amodores beach just along from Puerto Rico we would particularly recommend. The Canary Islands have little to offer in the way of sightseeing ... they are really just sun/sea/pool destinations.
Staff: The vast majority of staff at the Colina Mar are very hard working and pleasant, they could perhaps do with retraining of some individuals, especially male reception staff who often seem abrupt (I am not the first to make this point) and the so called "PR" Appointment might as well be "Pointless Remuneration"; you might expect somebody tasked with public relations to spend time interacting with the public ... Never seen or experienced!
Food: Here, I particularly take exception to a previous report. By no means whatsoever could you ever describe the food here as "Superb"! Look back at my previous reports and you will see that I afford the hotel as much gracious praise as befits the limitations of their limited buffet space, but the word superb is not applicable, especially as I now also have to concede other criticisms of food often being cold on the "so called hotplate" (this even in early session)!
Breakfast: As most say is of an average to good standard. With most options on offer.
Lunch:  Good salad offerings often with sardines/pilchards. Burger/Hotdog & chips and usually fresh fish etc.
Evening Meal: The amount of choice is restricted by limited buffet space, but that said you would have to be very fussy to say that you could not find something to your liking, .... albeit sometimes cold.
Cleanliness:  In spite of what appear to be cleaning staff cutbacks in recent years, the cleaning staff still appear to be doing as good a job as possible under the circumstances ... cracks are showing but hopefully management will be able to reinstate more cleaners soon. The amount of plants, trees & flowers is good to see especially in what must be difficult growing conditions, but more effort must be made to keep some of them suitably pruned, as walkways are often obstructed by unruly overhangs.I am assuming that refurbishment costs together with some expensive improvements due to safety regulations (replacement of railings for higher ones .. ongoing) have forced some cutbacks.
One area that SHOULD NOT BE IGNORED though and which we have commented on via feedback forms for several years is the provision of WiFi which is only available in the reception area (away from all other facilities)... Even as. 'Silver Surfers' ( both nearly 60) we expect WiFi to be available IN ALL public areas at the very least! Most preferably throughout the entire hotel .. even if this means additional payment by the guest to use it.This feedback seems to have been ignored for several years and as a result our normal February visit will now be to another Hotel.Maybe back again next October/November instead, but then again maybe more forward thinking hotels will win us over.

My husband and I stayed here for 11 nights Sept/Oct 2013. We had a fab time, were very pleased with the apartment, complex and location. Lovely little balcony to take in the views, clean and tidy apartment, two lovely pools and pool bars, friendly staff and a regular taxi service down to a choice of two beaches and harbours. Lots of English around when we stayed and a good atmosphere out and about in both the local Europa Centre and the main centre down the bottom. Lots if trips and activities available to choose from plus lots of sunshine :) We would definitely go back. A gem of a find for us!

My wife and I have just returned from 14 nights at the colina mar we are seasoned travellers and have stayed at many hotels and apartment complexes over the years and the Colina mar compares to the very best of them .
The views from the rooms are all sea views which are breath taking as good at night as during the day with fantastic views over the town and bay of Puerto Rico .
we stayed on an all inclusive basis and the quality of food was superb with something for all tastes .
The rooms are spacious and spotlessly clean .
The pool area was superb with plenty of loungers for everyone .
But the thing that sets the Colina Mar apart from other hotels and apartment complexes is the excellent staff waiters and bar staff especially Ellen were just so kind and friendly we can honestly say that this was one of our fav holidays ever .The entertainment was provided by a excellent all round entertainer called Oscar who kept the kids amused by day and the adults by night he worked tirelessly to make sure everyone enjoyed their holiday . Don't be put off by any of the negative reviews on here the Colina Mar is brilliant value for money and would wholeheartedly recommend anyone to stay here we deff will be coming back xx
