We stayed in the Vistamar for 11 nights from 30-Aug to 10th Sept. In summary, it's a lovely complex of apartments, very clean, friendly staff and excellent location. The only downside from my perspective was a lack of activities, which could be easily rectified. The pool was ok, albeit a bit small, but sunbed availability was acceptable. The usual towel brigade were down there at 9am to reserve beds, but there was always the odd ones spare. Despite what has been mentioned previously, we found no issue with using inflatables and toys in the pool. The pool bar, ran by an English girl, served nice standard of food and relatively well priced. The location itself is a 10 minute walk from the main shopping centre, spitting distance of the small port and main beach, and only a 20 minute walk to the Amadores beach. Puerto Rico on the whole is a nice, albeit dated resort. But, beware of the lucky lucky sellers. They are a pain in the backside, and constantly on your case. Don't be fooled into going along for a taxi ride unless you desperately want the freebies on offer. But they are camped right outside the complex, so just ignore them or tell them politely to go forth and multiply.

Be aware, if you go in high season, the temperatures are almost unbearable at night. Vistamar, get some air-con. The ceiling fans just circulate hot air.

Aside from having to shout at some idiotic English people who thought it was fun to shout and scream in the pool at 3am, it was a wonderful holiday.

A little better on the facilities and I'd of given this place a 5 star rating.

Room Tip: If you wish to use wireless, make it a ground floor room. Any higher, and you can almost forget it...

Had a fabulous 2 week holiday Aug 12 at the XQ Vista Mar in Puerto Rico, Gran Canaria.

Hotel couldnt be more perfectly situated - literally across the road from the beach and within 1 minute of several excellent restaurants and some shops. In just 15-20 mins you can stroll to the main commercial centre where you will find numerous bars and shops and a busy nightlife. Hotel is located at the quieter end of Puerto Rico. Several supermarkets also located within 10 mins walk of apartments. A 20 minute coastal walk takes you to the next bay Amadores which has a stunning beach - well worth the walk for a day out.

We found a pub called Harbour Lights almost next door - above some shops - friendly staff with quiz every night. Great food served from 8am-9pm. Huge Full English Breakfasts with proper bacon !! All very reasonably priced

Maid service changes towels, washes up and mops daily with bedding changed every other day. Pool cleaned thouroughly 6 days a week. Some folk did get up early to reserve their sunbeds but we didnt do that and didnt have any problems getting beds (8 of us in total). General standard of cleanliness of hotel was excellent - grounds and communal areas mopped daily. Chambermaids very friendly but limited English though this wasnt a problem.

Reception isnt open on a Saturday but this didnt cause us any problems. There is a licenced pool bar which does hot/cold food and snacks which is run separately to the hotel - reasonably priced and good quality.

Aparments have modern fitted kitchen with microwave, 2 ring hob and fridge freezer. You do have to rent kettle/toaster and safe if you want them. Flat screen tv with a couple of English channels (inc Disney). Bedrooms and living room have ceiling fans.

Fab views from the balcony - each of the 34 apartments has stunning sea view.

All in all we had a fab holiday and would definately go back to these apartments again!

Fell really lucky with this place. Apartments right down by the lovely clean beach. Road in front is a dead end so dont get lots of traffic. Only 32 apartments so friendly and small with everyones children playing together. Rooms are clean and tidy. Only a 2 ring hob and minimal pots and pans, You have to hire fans/toaster/kettle but we just boiled water in a pan! Only negative is the 'Pool Police'! The pool cleaner will not allow you to put so much as a towel on the sunbeds until 10am or go in the pool and when temps are hitting 100+ kids and parents were getting a little fed up. Would definitely go again as perfect location and came home totally chilled.

Room Tip: Try request a ground floor apartment. Straight out onto patio and your own sunbeds

Just got back from the Vistamar. I can fully understand why people return time and time again. They were lovely, modern and kept very clean by the lovely cleaning staff. My kids were impressed by the flat screen tv. We got a few english speaking channels, but watched the opening ceremony of the olympics on a spanish channel. The only downside(only minor) is the sunbed lark. The pool doesn't open until 10am. Usually from 9am-ish people start hovering near the sunbeds, but woe-betide anyone who dares to attempt to put towels down before 10am. We got a bit of a telling off one day! However, we did manage to get our sunbeds of choice each day. I loved getting up each morning and gazing out to sea from the balcony. There are a few restaurants and bars close by on the beach and marina front. We'd recommend Waikiki. Altogether a lovely holiday was had by the whole family.

When we first arrived at the Vistamar, we thought we had made a terrible mistake - dropped of on a road in front of white iron railings - but be warned, appearances can be very deceptive!! Once through the gate - things just got better and better. We arrived at about 2pm and had a 30 minute wait for our room. We were in room 30 on the 4th floor. The lift comfortably held us and our 8yr old daughter and 2 suitcases. The rooms are fabulous!! The recent renovations just have to be seen. High gloss units in the kitchen, microwave, halogen hob, fridge freezer, plenty of storage and hot water, cleaning cloths and washing up liquid supplied. Bedrooms have 2 double wardrobes and two single beds, living room has a sofa, 2 wicker chairs, large storage cupboard and a flat screen tv (with disney channel for kids!) Bathroom has a walk-in shower and hairdryer, lots of clean towels. Balcony very ample size -all overlook the pool and beach. Sunbeds were few and far between but we always managed to get 3, putting towels on before 10 is frowned upon and are removed. Games are allowed in the pool - we saw and played with bat/balls, volleyball, snorkelling, lilo's, inflatables etc I have to mention Jess at the pool bar, she is a fantastic lady, from Scarborough, speaks fluent english and spanish and will help with anything she can. Her food is fabulous, always presented well and tastes fantastic, not too expensive either. The Tuesday barbecue is well worth it - waiter service! The apartments are on the beach front, lots of decent shops and restaurants within a 5minute walk. Would have rated it 5 if it had air-con and some sort of receptionist or security at night. We will be returning :D xx

Room Tip: personally wouldn't have a ground floor room - no privacy.

We came to this hotel as a deal with thomas cook. alltogether i travelled with 2 adults and 3 children aged10-17. The apartments were very clean and a modern nice style. Rooms just spacious enough and nice balcony overlooking the beach with lovely views.Tv channels were limited for us brittish lot. There was clan which we mainly watched as it is kids tv but had smallville and charmed on at night which we enjoyed to watch. The area is close to a water park and mogan aswell as links to other places.. We went para sailing which was deffinatley worth all the money such a great experiance with beautiful views up in the air around puerto rico. The dophin and whale trip was good but the boat ride extremely rocky sea even on a calm day you could only see the whales from the top of the boat but good to see all the dolphins.Mogan market was a good day but look around before you buy as many things are repeated at different prices. I would recomend las vegas steak house up in the main center as it has massive portions and spoils the kids with ice lollys and lolly pops. And it came under £50 for 5 main meals and drinks! Harber lights aswell is recomended just next door to the hotel up the stairs, not the best of food but reasonable prices for the family however next door H2O has nicer food and similar prices.. There is an internet cafe just up the road next to the spar 1 computer for half hour is 30euros which is a good deal. As for the hotel again the pool is nice but slightly on the small side and the pool bar has a few snacks and dinner to offer. Overall a very decent holliday good place lovely hotel.. Highly reccomed this place to all.Hope this helps and if you need any info just ask. So happy hollidays everyone!:)

Room Tip: all rooms have a view of the beach not a noisy area it just depends on your guests ...

This hotel / apartments is ok at best. The place is in a good position if you don't like climbing steps... There are 839 steps to the next place if you decide to walk over the top of the hill! Anyway in a nutshell this place is let down by not having enough sunbeds and having rules to address this issue which are not adhered to by anyone. The pool is not open until 1000 hrs however today at 0811 hrs there were no sunbeds left and not one member of staff challenged anyone. Why have rules ?? Perhaps it would be better to make people pay for them or to allocate 2 per room to stop selfish parents grabbing a full row for the kids who are never there. One particularly sad woman sat on a stone bench with her stack of towels awaiting for the moment to pounce upon "HER....YES HER SUNBED" stating in an Irish accent.... "But this is my sunbedI ....I have had this SUNBED all week!! How pathetic ... You have been warned.... Oh and to top off the whole thing none of the staff speak English even in reception and the main man is very miserable!! ENJOY.... You won't see me there again! If the above does not bother you then it is a nice place to stay. The wifi is very poor too... Hit and miss... When asked at reception he said " maybe - maybe not!!
