Been to Puerto Rico twice a year for about 10 years, never stayed in these apartments before they have been refurbished and are really nice. We just returned 18 th march 2013 . The pool area really quite plenty sun beds having said that people do still put towels on beds, weather was good.there is a little shop in reception easier buying water, milk ,pop etc rather than bringing up all the steps to get to the apartments, these didn't bother us. Lots of reviews say about the noise at night we didn't find it a problem with doors closed you can still hear it but it didn't keep us awake. I would recommend these they ars clean and tidy with everything you need for self catering holiday.

Room Tip: We had room on first floor these get the afternoon sunshine till about 6 o clock.

Recently back from our third trip to the Altair and it lived up to our expectations.
A smooth check in and we were unpacking in a jiffy after paying for a weeks tele at 18 euros.
There is a tiny supermarket in reception offering a small selection of goods but at a higher price than in the town. There is a small supermarket 200 meters outside to the right of Altair next to Minanas that is decent.
There is a medium sized pool with loads of sunloungers but then lots of old people tend to get up early and put their towels on them. There is a nice little pool bar offering drinks and snacks open until six.
We had room 101 which got the sun later in the afternoon.
The rooms are very clean and new and large enough not to feel stiffeled. There is no air con but you do not need it.
The town is 207 or 167 steps down depending on which set you take and is full of shops bars and restaurants. The centre can get noisy at night until about four but with the patio doors shut you can just about hear it. The nights are cooler and it can get really windy and overcast as it was for most of our week unfortunately.
Overall, the Altair is a great base. Quiet and NO KIDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And all for less than four hundred quid.
We will be back next year

Room Tip: First floor rooms are great.

We stayed here March 2nd for 1 week, the apartment was clean and well furnished. Most Staff were friendly and helpful. Worst problem is that all the bedrooms are at the front of the block and the noise from the night club can be heard loudly every night unitl 4am, okay if you want late nights and discos, but not so good if you like early mornings and days out exploring like us, I got very tired not being able to sleep we were told by the travel company we went with that all their rooms were full and we couldn't move but if they had space in another hotels we would have had to pay for upgrade if there was one. Due to a lack of empty rooms we stayed put hoping to be able to ignore the noise but I just had disturbed nights. Due to a storm we required TV which was 4 euros for 24 hours, but we only got 21 complained but no one worried about that. All beds twin beds with single sheets not so good for couples. 200 steps to the centre or a long stroll via the road, we had no trouble with the distance to the beach or the shops.

Room Tip: all bedrooms point at night club in shopping centre so avoid if you have trouble sleeping as it goes...

We have just returned from Altair apartments.
We have been to Gran Canaria every winter for the last 20 years and stayed in many apartments around Puerto RIco. The Altair are the best yet.
They have been refurbished to a high standard. The pool area is nice and quiet so no need to worry about getting up at 6am to put towels on sun beds.
The pool bar serves snacks and drinks which are very reasonable.
The rooms are nice and bright and very clean.
Okay you do get a bit of music noise from the centre at night but It didnt stop us sleeping as other reviews have said.
The Thomson rep was very friendly and was there to help if needed. Reception staff also very helpful.
We bought water, milk and juice from the little shop in reception as didn't want to carry it up the steps.
Puerto Rico is a bit run down now. A lot of shops and bars have closed down but still plenty choice.
We ate out every night in our favourite restaurants which was still great value for money.
These apartments are more for couples than families.
We will stay at The Altair again next winter.

We first stayed in these apartments in 2000 (and got engaged too) when they were called Nevada... I have to say that they have done an excellent job in modernising them.

The apartement we had was very spacious, with doors onto a large balcony from both the lounge area and the bedroom.
Having the doors leading from the bedroom was lovely as it meant we could lay in bed, just open up the door and curtain in the morning and watch the sun spread its light across the opposite side of the valley.

The apartment was very clean an tidy, although for the first few evenings I had to evict a few unwanted guests in the form of cockroaches (they were pretty big too) but once the intial inhabitants had been evicted we didn't see any more afterwards.

The aparetment was equipped with a kettle, toaster and microwave as well as a double ringed electric hob, although we didn't really make much use of the cooking facilities, preferring instead to live on chorizo, ham, cheese and fresh bread bought each morning from the Hyperdino supermarket (cheaper than the Spar).

Talking of shopping, you also need to look out for the chocolate covered doughnuts in Hyperdino, they are soooo tasty and it's hard to limit yourself to one a day!

The apartments are just about far enough away from the town centre although late a night the noise can still travel up the hill so getting a few beers down you will help you sleep a little better. As far as drinking goes I can highy recommend Taffany's for a good laugh and friendly atmosphere (without the pressure to go in from reps) and it is also one of the cheapest bars in the centre.
M&M is cheaper still but doesn't quit have the same atmoshere as Tiffany's, but does show plenty of live football so is worth a visit too.

Stayed here for 1 week from 18th Feb 2013 apartments very modern and clean, could not fault them. The only problem we had was the noise from the hotel next door and the noise from the centre it went on till 4 am every night/morning ! Not good when your on a family holiday and your little girl is waking from the noise. So we moved to another hotel and had to pay an upgrade of £269 as we could not stand the noise any longer, so if your looking for quiet holiday don't bother.

This was the first time that we have stayed at these apartments. We were unable to get into the place that we usually stay so decided to give the Altair a go. We were not disappointed and we would go back there again.

The apartments have been refurbished so they are modern and really clean looking. The only thing that lets them down is the quality of the pillows and towels as they could do with replacing.

The pool area is quiet, but we were happy with that as you can just chill in the sun. The pool bar serves a range of snacks but unfortunately it is only open until 5.30pm. There is a little shop at reception and also a couple of other little shops down the road.

The staff there are reasonably friendly, although you don't really see that many staff. We had two Thompson reps during our weeks stay. The first lad, who I think was called Liam never spoke to us and to be honest I didn't see him speak to anyone else. The girl, who I think was called Claire was much more friendly and at least said hello. I did see her speaking with other guests and helping them out. Chantelle, who works at the pool bar was also very helpful with guests.

We had a couple of cockroaches in our bathroom.

We had a nice time at the Altair and would recommend this as a place to chill out in what are probably some of the most modern apartments in Puerto Rico.
