Castillo de Sol Apartments
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed January 13, 2009

Just got back from Castillo de Sol on Jan 12 2009.Was there just 3 months ago. Trust me .... I am a grumpy old woman and I love complaining but this place was just great. I went in October on my own. First time ever. Bit apprehensive but it was the best holliday I have ever had.Everyone was friendly and I was not allowed to be alone for a single minute. I loved it so much I went back in Jan and I was greeted by everyone as a long lost friend. Lorreiene , the entertainments manager is an absolute star. She makes the place. She knows everyones name and organises really fun things for everyone to do.The appartments are very basic but immaculately clean with maid service almost every day and clean towels several times a week. The pool bar does great food and snacks and every night they have happy hour and some entertainment. The only complaint I heard was the appartments on the higher floors were very noisy at night as the music from the town drifted up. This goes on until 4am most nights. On the lower floors noise is not a problem. Its 139 steps to the shopping centre , easy peasy going down and coming back just pace yourself and its fine. Taxi is about 2 /3 euros .Booked Castillo because it was the cheapest holliday. The single suppliments were unbelievable on some hollidays and I really thought I would be staying in a dump but it was great.Basic but clean. WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT ??? Best restaurant in town is next door. MINANANS is owned by Peter ( a jordie ) and Juan. Beautiful food cooked just for you.Wonderful selection and not too expensive.I ate there first night and was blown away so I ate there every night.Down town there are a thousand cafes that cater for the tourists............egg and chips , sunday roast etc and its cheap as chips but if you want quality food MINANAS is the place.Would reccomend Castillo to anyone.I love it and will be going back again. Any other 'Singletons ' out there reading this. Dont bat an eyelid just book and go. I felt safe , didnt feel ' alone ' and I had a ball !!!

Excellent if you have children. Lorraine the entertainer keeps them entertained most of the day and night. Fishing, mini golf, For the adults she does a pool tornament , aqua aerobics and water polo. The pool bar is good value for money with a happy hour buy 1 get 1 free between 8 and 9 every night. Yes the accomodation may be a little shabby But you get what you pay for. Rooms include a cooker 2 hobs and a kettle. Any problems and maintenance sorts them out same day. Maids are in most days. Receptionists are lovely and very helpful. 2 flights of stairs down and you are in the main complex. The hotel has good entertainment on at night . Bird show, reptile show, blues brothers, robbie williams and more. Plus bingo and quiz. Good decent sized pool and balconies. My daughter is 10 and she loved every minute. We would definately go and stay there again.Just remember to Take the wee sheets off the bed and you will have a peaceful nights sleep.

Well what can i say. We arrived back last nite (16th August 2008) after staying for a week at the castillo.....i recieved an email 2 days before departing from thomas cook, informing us that they had over booked and were changing our accomadation. (originally booked the Bablau) I was absolutely gutted. But when we arrived we were pleasantly surprised. The apartments were very basic but also very clean. No kettle or toaster you had to hire these from reception, we didn't bother, just boiled water in the saucepan. No air con either, but can hire a fan for 9e (plus 12e deposit which u get back.) would strongly recommend hiring 1, it was a god send at night. Safety deposit boxes available, again with a deposit required. Lack of entertainment, supposed to be karaoke Mon - Fri, but we didn't see anything, the kids entertainer didnt turn up till Fri, we were going home Saturday!....but what we did see was good. However there is a BBQ every friday, which we didnt go to, because we made other plans, but it looked nice. (9.95e for adults and i think 5e for kids). The balconys were spacious and all had nice views. The pool wasn't really that big, but considering we went in August, it never got crowded. Pool bar sold plenty of snacks and drinks, with plenty of variety, full breakfast was nice.(4.90e) The only downfall to the location of the Castillo were the steps! my daughter counted 172 steps down to the main strip, ( but weren't that steep). Otherwise the location was good. We took a trip a few times to the Europa centre which is right on the top of the opposite side. (you wouldnt even know it was there, unless some1 told you) worth a visit, especially for evening family entertainment. 4e by taxi, to far too walk! Amadorus beach is a lovely walk across the cliffs about 45mins, again well worth a visit. Pedlo's and inflatables in the sea for the kids, with plenty of resturants and shops. If u fancy a Sunday lunch (any day of the week, then there is the "pride of London".Mmmmmmmmmm lovely. (taxi back from Amadorus is 3.25e) There are plenty of other restaurants that also do roast dinners, if u get fed up of chips, chips and more chips. The public swimming pool is also another way to spend the day, entrance is 8e but if u go early enough, before 1pm i think, then u get entrance and a cooked breakfast for 9.95e. The harbour is lovely and plenty of different boat trips going out on a regular basis. The glass bottom boat was nice, or the half boat half submarine. Also a trip to puerto mogan was nice too, via the ferry, my hubby got a tattoo whilst he was there. There were 2 water parks to chose from, 1 larger than the other. We decided to go to aqualand in Maspalamas. 17e for adults, can't remember the price for kids. but only 5.40e for the 3 of us each way.... All in all, puerto rico is a very very pretty place with plenty to do. and altough there were a few negative points about the Castillo, i wouldnt hesitate to stay there again....oh yea almost forgot, they are a menace,,,,,the "looky looky men" just say NO and walk away.
