“Relaxing 2 weeks”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 9, 2012

Reading the reviews for these apartments before coming didn't give me a clear inidcation as to where I was going to be staying for 2 weeks and seeing some of the negative comments weren't reassuring but on arrival I was totally amazed. It is a fantastic location and really well looked after. Pools and surrounding area were spotless and once up in our room we were pleasantly suprised. Quite basic but clean and spacious. Sheets and towels changed twice a week and rooms cleaned 5 times a Week. I think the comments left by others about cleanliness are just snobbish comments. The apartments are 3* or less so if you are looking for the very best pay for it and stay 5* the pool bar was a nice surprise also as we werent aware it was there. Verrrrry cheap for drinks and food was also okay as we ate here a few times.
5 mins walk to the beach and 3 euros in a taxi to peurto rico. Day to day we stayed by the pool and loved it
they have spanish families on holiday here and small children and on previous feedback comments have been made regarding the spanish using the pool which seems like a stupid thing to say since we are in spain!! Didnt affect our holiday at all that they were around the pool! Enjoyed every minute of our holiday!!
Genuinely haven't got a negative comment to make about our stay and would be happy to stay again. You get what you pay for.

We stayed here as a family of 3 during 20th-27th August. We arrived in Las Palmas during the night we were greeted by the Thomson Reps and were told there would be a 20 minute wait for the transfer, never in all the years i have travelled to Gran Canaria (and we have been 7 times )have we had to wait for a coach, i found this to be quite irritating considering the late hour and the fact we were the only flight to arrive for Thomson at that time. We found throughout the holiday the service from Thomson to be VERY poor which will detail more later.

On arrival to the hotel check in was very easy and finding our room was quite easy also, with the late hour we arrived the bar was closed we asked the receptionist about getting any water and he was more than helpful and gave us a 6 litre bottle of water for 1 Euro which we thought was good value.

The room itself was quite basic but we have stayed self catering many times so we knew what to expect. The kitchen was basic but functional with a very large fridge/freezer and plenty of cutlery, plates etc. The only issue we had was the hob did take a VERY LONG while to heat up and ended up using the microwave instead for quickness. Also the issue of no kettle but from reading previous reviews we knew this and took our own travel kettle.
The bathroom was quite small but the shower excellent pressure very powerful. The bedroom has a really good wardrobe with mirrored sliding doors ideal for getting ready on an evening. Bedsheets on the other hand we not changed in the whole week we were there, towels changed twice and room cleaned 3 times which seemed like a cats lick more than anything.

Pool area was quite big, 2 good sized pools, sunloungers not so good but bearable. Pool at times during the week seemed quite murky at points we just thought this was due to the suncreams etc but soon realised it was probably because it wasnt cleaned that often.
However having read other reviews about random local spanish people coming into the pool area and using the facilities we can verify this is correct, we seen this on a few occassions and find it very odd that this seems acceptable behaviour. We have never seen this before in our whole 7 years at this island. We can only assume that the cleaners are putting their friends towels out for them in the morning to get good spots.
Bar area and service was very good they have 2 4 1 offers on drinks and there is a variety of snack meals and nothing seemed to be too much trouble cant complain.

The location of these apartments are what sets it apart, it is a 5 minute walk to amadores beach which is fabulous with lots of cafes, shops and restaurants to go to during the day and evening. There is a local bus stop also which is a 2 minute walk and the buses are regular and the timetables are easy to read. There is a local spa again which is a 2 minute walk from the hotel to stock up on food, there is one in the hotel but it is quite basic and doesnt have very many things so the spa is probably the best option.

Finally Thomson from start to finish the service was absolutly poor. Werent given a welcome pack on our transfer to resort and when being dropped off at the hotel had no idea of the welcome meeting the next day, when we asked POLLY our transfer rep her response was to "ask the other guests as they got one so they will tell you" and that was that. VERY POOR.
Our welcome meeting if you can call it that was even worse, the rep who held it wasnt our normal one as apparently the other rep was off sick. When she was going through the hotel it was basiclly i dont know anything about this hotel theres the pool area this is the bar and thats it basically. When asking when our usual rep would be in she said she didnt know and if we wanted to book anything with her we would have to do it today, we felt quite pressured by her and just felt as if all she wanted to do was get in make some money and get out as quickly as possible.
Our rep only visited the hotel for 45 mins 3 days a week i finid this to be absolutley ridiculous as if you have any problems you have to wait 2 days to speak to anyone. The transfer on the way back was by poor polly again it arrived 20 mins late no appology whatsoever then were told oh by the way you have a 2 hour delay. 2 hour 20 mins more like having to wait for the coach!

Overal Thomson service was less than what i had anticipated for being such a well known company in resort service was very poor, my daughter has worked as a rep before and knows the standards which should be met and this was not met at all in anyway. Non existant is the best way to describe this.

All in all we had a fantastic holiday as usual in gran canaria. Apartments were basic but you only pay for what you get and we didnt have any real issues with the apartments that spoiled and part of our holiday. Would actually stay here again as the price is reasonable for what you get. Looking forward to next year.

Room Tip: Take own kettle as dont have any in apartments and ask for high floor room.

i don't normally write reviews but ive decided to write one this time to express my indignation and disgust with the people who are trying to find something to criticise in every holiday they go to. Just came back this morning from 2 wonderful weeks in Gran Amadores Apartments and I honestly cannot fault them with anything. clean, almost quiet, nice people, helpful, big rooms, lots of sunbeds available (we only woke up about 11 and NEVER had any problem finding a spare one), drinks and food at the bar really cheap, big portions and very tasty. 3 minutes in the taxi from Puerto rico (3-4 euros!!!!!!!), beach 5-6 minutes walk and the beach is gorgeous. People seem to forget they have booked a 2 star hotel and expect all the facilities for a 5 star!!!!!! i would easily give it 3 star and would recommend it

We stayed in the Gran Amadores apartments at the beginning of August 2012.We arrived late at night and just wanted to go to sleep. Our 2 children went to bed in the bedroom and me and my husband went to make up the sofa bed.The pull out bed had a mattress that was stained and ripped we were so tired we made the bed up and fell asleep. The next morning on closer inspection we found the apartment to be dusty not just on the furniture but the floor too which also contained hair!!.During our 9 days stay our towels were never changed and the bedding was only changed when I asked on the 5th day!Having been self catering before we were used to having all basic ameneties ie kettle but if you want one you have to hire one!!.The staff came and went as they pleased and were not around when a young boy got stung on his tongue so another guest at the apartments had to go to the neighbouring hotel to ask for help. The 1st aid box near the pool only contained a sling, bandage and latex gloves!.Spanish guests came and went at all hours and even had friends come and use the pools and bag sunbeds! and as for there perfomances in the pool soft porn comes to mind .When myself and others complained we were told they were young and having fun!My son caught his foot on something in the pool(plaster and sealent) we informed a man on reception he asked where it was from then spoke in spanish to the native guests who then vacated the pool!! the cleanliness of the pool was poor too.The only saving grace to these apartments was the poolside bar where we were always made welcome and the food and drinks are well priced.Would I go back to Amadores yes would I stay in the Gan Amadores aprtments NO !

After reading reviews we new this was a quiet place to stay. On arrival appartment was clean, tidy and basic but on looking closer bed mattresses and pillows were badly stained. Bedding changed only once during our 2 week stay on the 10th day. Towels only changed twice.
When we first arrived the pool was clear but during the course of our stay it got murkier and murkier untill you could not see the bottom of the larger pool, think they attempted to clean on the 2nd Thursday of our stay( after complaints from several guests to the rep). Sun beds were available but if you didnt put your towel on early, the locals were coming in during the day and using the facilities and took up any spare beds.
Pool side bar had good food and the drinks were cheap. Pleasant barman, kept clean at all times.
Evening porters kept any noise down and tried to deal with any questions people had.

Beach front restaurants and gift shops were close by would reccommend ciao beach as food was excellent. Beach nice and clean and sea water clear does get full especially at weekends.

Puerto rico only a short distance away for night life and more shopping. Taxi only 3 euros 50 cents, there is a regular bus or there is a coastal path which takes about half and hour to walk.

Overall would stay at resort again but not at Gran Amadores.

One thing we did reccommend to the Thomson rep was the option to pre book a welcome pack as we arrived late (1.30am) and had no water or food till the following morning.

Room Tip: Would say top floor appartment better

We have just returned from a 10 night stay and were very pleased with all aspects of the resort and hotel. Spar shop is very accessible and sold all that we needed. Lovely beach and very handy buses to Puerto Rico, Maspalomas and Playa de Taurito etc. All the facilities were exactly as described and we can not at all relate to the criticisms in the 'Disgusted' review. Some great restaurants, but much better service/value from the row of restaurants on the right hand side as you approach the beach. Blue Beach restaurant particularly recommended. Ciao Ciao on the left hand side was the worst/rudest service we've ever encountered.

One thing to watch for and this is NOTHING to do with the hotel, is the 'Arthur Daleys' on the street around the corner wanting to give so-called 'Holiday information', but were out to get people into signing up for the Holiday Club. They have a stand, which at first glance looks like it belongs to Thomson. It is not. They then open cards and claim that you're the first family in two weeks to win a camcorder worth over £200. You have to be shown around the Holiday Club for 90 minutes to claim your prize. With hindsight we were on 'Planet Gullible' and went along with it, only to receive a no-name camcorder worth peanuts!

If you want a basic/pleasant/quiet holiday then we recommend this resort and hotel.

Room Tip: Less privacy and view on the ground floor. Upper floors much better.

We booked this holiday on a whim without doing any research - so more fools us. Thomson transferred us, with no representative - we arrived just after 10pm. The security guard showed us to our apartment, didn't speak any English, so we didn't even know where we could buy some water.

Apartment was very basic, the beds were smelly - no mattress protectors, the bed settee was a joke and both were very uncomfortable. No kettle supplied - you could rent one for 15 euros a week - this is supposed to be a self catering apartment - and no kettle - joke! No bowls for cereal, had to use flatish pasta bowls.

No air conditioning, you could rent fans. Luckily for us, we had brought a couple travel ones and a family who was leaving gave us a big fan which another family had passed to them. We passed this onto someone else when we left. Without this, we would have melted - we were on a ground floor apartment so couldn't leave windows or doors open.

Cleaning - it states you will be cleaned 5 times a week, when we were actually only cleaned twice. Towels supposed to be changed twice, only changed once.

Pool and surroundings were never cleaned - and a family complained once they left. Amazingly, the pool was looked at and on the second to last day, all the beds were cleaned down and the medical first aid kit was topped up.

Pool was okay, bit murky, but we were fine. We had to reserve our beds to get one, took us back to the 80s!

Pool bar very good. Had offers on drinks and food relatively good.

Amadores beach lovely. Some lovely restaurants. Try Ciao Beach restaurant - we had a couple of great meals there - pasta lovely.

If you want a shopping trip, go to Puerto Rico - it's about a 20 minute walk along the coast. Great if you have kids for lizard spotting. We went to a restaurant called Arizona just as you come into the harbour. Great food and they give you vegetables with your meal (if you have steak etc). Pizzas very good here too. They finish off the evening with free ice cream to the children and a free vodka shot to the adults. Very good service and lovely good. You can't go wrong. We saw several families returning to this restaurant, so that says it really.

Another place to visit is Puerto de Mogan. Lovely little fishing village with beach. Very venice like with little canals. Some nice shops and restaurants and only a short way on the bus.

So all in all, apartment wouldn't go again, but the sun shined and we made the most of it.

Room Tip: Get an apartment with air conditioning!
