Firstly I must admit to having lunch with the winemaker, David Baverstock, secondly it was my introduction to bacalhao (salted cod). Generally I am not much of a fish eater but this lovely dense meat that isn't too fishy has given me something new to like. Add that to a great venue, company and wine and you can't go wrong. We were probably a bit spoilt but this is a special venue that I would highly recommend........oh and the dessert!

This is a restaurant located inside one of the best and biggest wineries in Portugal, responsible for the strong image created around wines from the Alentejo region.
The location is wonderfully hidden deep inside Alentejo with acres of wine plantations as well as olive trees.
The winery and restaurant are a modern conception and offer a very high quality experience.
Food is very well made with the best local ingredients and the wines speak for themselves.
Well worth the trip, the lunch and the wine tasting.

On way home after our mini tour of Portugal we decided to call in at the Herdade do Esporão adega. The Red Reserva is me of our favorite Portuguese wines, and some of their other brands make very decent everyday house wines.

The restaurant was excellent. In fact this was the best meal we had on our trip around Portugal, and the accompanying glass of wine was wonderful. Looking out from the restaurant across the small lake, there were no signs of human habitation as far as you could see (apart from cultivated vines). Very peaceful place.

We took the tour, which was very interesting & educational & the tour guide (who doubled as receptionist seemed very knowledgeable, pleasant & helpful.

Well worth a visit!

This place is still a hidden gem. Hard to find but what a beautiful scenery and great food, great wine and good olive oil.

Definitely recommended. Beautifull restaurant with a great view towards the vineyards and lake. Great food inspired in the traditional alentejo food but with a nice flair of sophistication and modernity. Nice wine. Great olive oil tasting for starters. And everything at very reasonable prices. I will come back next time I'll be around.
