“100% Tuscanian magic”
Reviewed March 26, 2012

We arrived just for 2 days and 2 nights to celebrate my birthday in a completely unique atmosphere. This is the best place Tuscany we've ever been to date. I heard loads of reviews by Panzano admirers, now I have seen all this veinblowing surroundings and landscapes by myself. The Fagolari B&B actually is a very very genuine cozy Italian family cottage equipped with the modern facilities. The cooking studies guided by Giulietta were incredible, now I can perform as a true Italan chef better than all my mates! Two days that stand high above many weeks of other vacations in my memory.

I just took a small group to Italy and we spent 6 days at Fagiolari as our home base. It's not far from Florence (30 minutes) and there are some good driver options in Panzano (a 30-minute walk from Fagiolari). We enjoyed fabulous meals by proprietor Giulietta Giovanonni as well as an entertaining and educational hands-on cooking lesson. The rooms were spacious, we sat around the indoor fire a pit two evenings and took walks through the countryside in the mornings. It was a specatuclar time to be in Italy - the fall colors, crisp air, light crowds made me think Fall is best there. Plus, it's all about olives and oil this time of year, which means we also had fresh-pressed olive oil from Giulietta's olive grove.

Room Tip: They're all spacious and comfortable; most have private baths, some share one; others are in sma...

B&B Fagiolari, is nicely kept, well built, and uniquely situated just outside Panzano in Chianti. The Owner, Giulietta (Julietta) was friendly, and helpful. We Spent 6 nights here, and used this for our base in the Region. Breakfast was fresh and ready every morning by 7:30, and Giulietta was always ready with information and advice about nice side trips to include in our adventures - if we had time. Her Property was situated in a valley just outside of Panzano, and included Solar, a Vinyard, and Walnut Grove. She hosted a Cooking class one of the nights we were there, as is normal for her. There were usually 3-4 other couples were staying at the B&B. Our room was very large, and the bed was comfortable, and with only one exception (when another couple arrived very late), we slept well.
This was my wife and my first B&B stay, and although a nice place we found ourselves not used to the atmosphere, and felt a little uncomfortable in someone else's home. So I'll recommend B&B Fagiolari because it was nice and Giulietta was a gracious host. The other downside is the inconvenience of having to run to town for other than breakfast meals, - but that was only a 5 minute drive. If you're looking for a relaxing atmosphere in a quiet country location, this is perfect. If you're going to use it as a base for running around Tuscany, and Western Italy - you may want to look at staying in a bigger town with better access to the main roads. Internet access was available, and free - but not fast, so you could get an e-mail out, but doing web surfing was a little frustrating.

This B & B is lovely, clean, and solid, well thought out in every detail from the landscape full of native plants and fruit and olive trees to the beautiful rustic latches on the antique doors. The owner, Giulietta, is very helpful and friendly and made reservations for us at local wineries and suggested restaurants. She also makes her own wine, jams and soaps. Another wonderful thing about this place is the cooking classes you can take right in the kitchen with world class instruction, including an apron and cookbook. It was great fun and informative--seven students from all over the world--we made several local dishes and drank wine and talked and ate for five hours. The road there is one which winds through a vineyard and turns into a one lane gravel "path", but it not that far our of town... the trip is definitely part of the attractive ambience of the place and was not a problem for our tiny rental car. We will be going back. Absolutely beautiful and memorable views of Tuscan countryside too, even from the pool!!

Room Tip: Ask for an upstairs room if you have heavy luggage.

During our week in Panzano we took a cooking class at B&B Fagiolari. There were 4 of us and were joined by another American couple. The road to the B&B is definitely an adventure but well worth the effort. The grounds are just beautiful and very peaceful. The kitchen was cozy and well equipped with a big window with beautiful views! We did not have Giulietta but Stephanie, and she was wonderful. Very patient and fun. We really enjoyed our time there and also eating what we made! Also, was nice getting the cookbook so we can treat our family and friends!! The pasta machine has already been ordered!! Thanks so much!!

Fagiolari B&B, just outside the village of Panzano, in the Greve area of Chianti, was indeed a great & wise selection for our 8 night stay in Tuscany. We spent our 8 nights at Fagiolari after a 7 night stay in Provence.

Approx. 3.5 hour drive up from Roma we came upon the delightful Village of Panzano, which is situated about 20 minutes up from the Town of Greve, and then a fun ride on the dirt road from the village for a little over a mile, through vineyards & past other homes, to Fagiolari. Pay no mind to comments about a long & bumpy dirt road to get to Fagiolari. The 5 minute drive is fun & exciting & added an element of anticipation & adventure ( we always have a car when we travel ).

We ( the wife & I from Northeast USA ) are very particular re accommodations & meals, and we were very pleased with both at Fagiolari. Panzano is perfectly / centrally located for all day trips & driving is easy once you understand the road signs, although all Chianti roads are very winding, adding to the thrills & excitement of the region. Firenze is 1 hour by car or bus from the Village of Panzano. We took the bus on 2 separate days to Firenze & very glad we did.

Castellina, Siena, San Gimignano. Radda, Greve, Volterra, Montalcino , Montepulciano, Monteriggioni, and all the other towns & villages in between are easy to reach. Our favorite small town ( 35 minutes from Panzano ) is Radda, with it's local charm & wonderfully maintained ancient buildings ( maintenance is mandated by the Village ).

The Village of Panzano has several excellent restaurants only 5 minutes from Fagiolari. The Village butcher, Dario Cecchini, is quite the area attraction... do not miss time at his shop & be sure to eat at one of his 3 restaurants in the Village, esp. if you love Bistecca..

Fagiolari, located on a hillside in one of the valleys, provides fantastic views of Panzano & the local vineyards ( no rain fell in the area for 5 months, so we were careful with water use ), and the very relaxed, quiet atmosphere at the lovely pool was exceptional. The main house is approx. 800 yrs. old & beautifully restored by Giulietta over many years. We stayed in the charming, rustic & very private air-conditioned cottage with kitchen & good mattress, a short stroll from the main house. The included breakfasts in the main house were prepared & served with much love and attention, and served in the communal large dining room, or you can take your breakfast al fresco on the cover patio.

Our delightful host / owner, Giulietta ( fluent in English & well known in the USA for her cooking ), was gracious & helpful in every respect. Dinners are not part of the program on a daily basis. We and another couple from Australia took a cooking class with Giulietta, and from 17:00 - 22:00 ( 5 -10 PM ) created ( everything from scratch ) & enjoyed our wonderful Tuscan meal of Ravioli di Ricotta e Spinaci; Zucchini, Pomodoro e Basilico al forno; Arista al Latte ( pork loin cooked in milk ); and to top it all off, Giulietta's family recipe for Il Tiramisu. Wow !! What a dinner that was !!

September was the perfect time !!

Everything was wonderful & we would be most pleased to stay again at Fagiolari. And to Giulietta: "Bravissimo e Grazie mille".

Dennis & Rita

Room Tip: the cottage was very private if you are not used to the B&B atmosphere of a room in the owner...

Il Fagiolari was our favorite place in all of Italy! It is a beautiful home with spectacular views over Tuscan hills and vineyards. It was very well kept and the pool was amazing. Giulietta was very attentive and kind. Her knowledge and recommendations of the area were very useful. One of our most memorable nights was our cooking class with her. It was a delicious feast! Although many reviews are negative about the road to the house, we felt it was safe, easy and adventurous. We recommend this B&B to anyone looking for a relaxing and beautiful vacation.
