Hotel Ristorante Grotta Palazzese

The rooms are small but charming. We had rooms with a balconies looking towards the sea. Lovely, except the birds liked it also. (use your emagination)
The restaurant was excellant, both in setting and cusine.
The only problem was with an older man (owner?) who caused chaos on our arrival...wrong rooms, no help with luggage, irritating.
Good location. Close to town and restaurants.

A good hotel with an appropriate level of service (although in the time departure to our room burst one of the managers of front desk, when my wife and I took a shower, because the maid had already come - it is certainly unacceptable for any levels hotels, such porters). Rooms are small, and generally on the website this hotel looks much more attractive. However, see photos and you can appreciate the difference. The best thing - it is certainly a restaurant. The ambience is fantastic. What, unfortunately, can not be said about the cuisine. It is not bad, but too overrated. Among other things, the hotel is in need of modernization. Especially the bathrooms. It seems it's possible to enter the sea directly from the main hotel building on the ladder, but we discovered it too late with the water bike (see photo). But nobody at the reception are not told about it. Check it.

The website for this hotel looks fantastic - don't be deceived by it though! I was so excited about staying here and then utterly let down once we'd arrived. The accommodation is 50+ years out of date and we had to ask to change rooms on the first night as the bed had other people's hairs in it. It was like going back in time - the hotel was probably considered glamorous in the 1950s but they can't get away with it anymore. Breakfast was ok and the restaurant and public areas are well done. We chose not to eat in the restaurant though, as we couldn't understand how a plate of mozzarella was worth 30 euros. In fact, we had a delicious (authentic) Italian 2-course meal with drinks for about the same price!

The hotel is superb, in a cliff with a balcony over the blue/emerald ocean. You feel like you're in a dream.
The restaurant is very beautiful, in a cave above the ocean, with candle lights and the food is great.
It's so worthy to go to Polignano and stay in Grotta Palazzese.

Decided on closing a 10 day trip with my wife at Grotta Palazzese. Although the staff was very nice and the restaurant fantastic (eating in a natural sea cave that has been used for entertainment since the 17th century is a unique experience), the room and the bathroom was cramped, noisy and the balcony a joke. The view was fantastic and the room clean, but at EUR210.00 a night, not worth it at all. Do not recommend.

The town is wonderful. Truly italian.

The hotel is very good. Modern but clean. We booked one of the traditional cave like rooms with a balcony right on the sea. The room was smallish and furniture a bit dated but the location and the views made up for this.

The restaurant is one of the best int eh world - the location - wow!

Upon arriving I was optimistic of this place because of the beautiful setting but that was short lived when the man checking us in did not offer to help us with our bags (no elevator) so I carried my bags and my parents' bags up four flights of stairs while he watched. I guess chivalry is dead. The room "characteristica" that we were promised was the not the cave room that is advertised on the website, but your average, small European hotel room. While it was comfortable enough, it was not what we reserved (and the hotel was certainly not full) and they didn't offer to make any other accomodations. The most disappointing aspect was the restaurant, which was mediocre at best, food and service. While we certainly understood that it was expensive, we were expecting exceptional and creative food. It was neither. While is was certainly ok, it no way warranted the ridiculous prices. 44 Euros was a lot for 6 sea bass ravioli that just tasted like pasta and ricotta cheese. I was equally disappointed that they charged my 7 year old the 10 Euro cover when he didn't order or eat anything. You are definately paying for the view, which was lovely but not worth the 315 Euros we spent for three adults to eat an appetizer and a main dish each. I also couldn't get past the black mold that was consuming the ceiling of the cave. If you must eat here, get a table at the water's edge where the air is much fresher. But I would suggest you just look at the pictures on the Internet and avoid the restaurant altogether.
