I wouldn't call the Pink Elephant's food or atmosphere "sophisticated" (it is, after all, called The Pink Elephant), but it's clean, cozy and comfortable, and the food is quite solid. Very fresh, very local. My wife is still talking about the strawberries.

The "manager" is actually the owner; a witty and engaging chap who clearly loves what he's doing, and is not shy about having a seat with you and chewing the fat. He had us laughing quite a bit throughout our meal. For curmudgeonly New Yorkers who generally prefer to be left alone, this is quite a feat.

Good food, a nice pint of stout, a beautiful view, and some laughs. What more could you want out of a restaurant?

After a rough day, the manager greeted us, gave us a few beers and sat down to talk with us about our travels. The food was served in more than generous portions and the views from the patio were stellar. Well done.

Food was very good and more plentiful than expected, just didn't, like being pounced on as soon as you walk in.

We booked by phone for dinner and this went to plan. The Pink Elephant is in a stunningly beautiful position with costal views from the bar & restaurant. It was possible to eat in both. Drinks in the bar and dinner in the restaurant for us. The menu was varied and using local fresh products. Staff were friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the menu and drinks. There was a menu and daily specials. We went for the local black pudding with apple and chorizo and it was well balanced, tasty but not overpowering and the homemade chicken liver pate with salad and warm tasty toast and a selection of homemade bread rolls. For mains we could have had local fish, seafood, poultry or meat and we went for the T bone steaks, very chunky homemade chips, field mushrooms, dressed salad and a sauce. We asked for them to be cooked differently and unusually we got what we asked for (most places do them the same not as ordered). Wine menu is varied and sold by the glass or bottle. We were too full to try a pudding but the coffee was also good. It is not the cheapest of restaurants but we felt we had good value and we could have had a main course in the bar rather than the fuller menu at a reasonable price and some folks were doing that but then it was my birthday! When we come to the area again we will certainly go again. As an aside the waitress has a very good singing voice. The quirky name is apparently lost in the mists of the 1960’s.

This is a good restaurant and well worth the visit either for lunch or dinner. The menu is excellent and the fish is local and fresh and perfectly cooked. At the right time with the right staff on duty it can be an experience too! Good wine selection and resonably priced for the top quality fare on offer.
