“Good budget stay with friendly proprieters.”
Reviewed July 2, 2012

Our 6 night stay in Santorini was busy and we knew we would be spending little time in our hotel. Accommodation was generally quite expensive in Santorini and this is more of a 'budget' hotel accommodation and a matching price range. The rooms were very basic, but also very clean (and cleaned every day with new linen/towels etc) and very quiet as it's a little out of the town of Imerovigli. You really do get what you pay for (the bed and pillows were average, the shower head was broken, some of the furniture was a bit 'worn'), but in saying that, the view is priceless. From our room (and likely all the rooms from what we saw) and the pool there is a spectacular view of the sunset and the caldera. The pool is a really good size for the island (as we had many friends staying nearby in Fira and Imerovigli and also saw their accommodation to compare) and the price range. The breakfast is fresh and tasty, but is mainly just a bread roll with condiments.

The local taverna (Tasos) was also great food and friendly service. The hotel is a short walk to Imerovigli, but it is almost a vertical climb (so coming back is fine!). We would definately suggest hiring a car/quad bike for the time you spend on the island to avoid many vertical hill climbs!

The proprieters (although limited English) went out of their way with us in providing us personal service - we couldn't believe their willingness to help us during our 6 night stay - even getting back an iphone that we left in the back of a taxi.

If you are looking to have an affordable stay in a clean room with excellent views and a great pool, I would definately recommend this accommodation but be mindful it is 3-star ish and nothing more so don't expect a champagne stay on a beer budget in terms of breakfast or the aesthetics of the rooms.

Room Tip: Any with a promised Caldera view would deliver.

We stayed here for 4 nights and the service was superb - Maria was working her first week and looked after us like we were long-lost friends - not to mention she makes the yummiest frappes at breakfast! She even lent us her laptop to check our flights.

Our room was spacious and the setting spectacular with views across to Oia and the coastal path at our front door so you can walk back to town. Pool was fabulous.

Breakfast consisted of a breadroll, cheese, yoghurt & honey and we just bought a box of cereal and ate outside our room with our tray of goodies from the kitchen.

We would stay here again and would recommend to anyone looking for a getaway. Its probably a good 45 minute walk to Fira, so you want to load up on groceries if wanting to be self-sufficient.

My husband an I stayed at Gizis very recently, and we had a great time. It provided simple, clean, contemporary accomodation, in a beautiful location at a truly great price. What more can you ask?! When looking for accomodation in Santorini, we found anywhere with a 'Caldera' view to be incredibly expensive, so took a chance on Gizis based on very favourable reviews on this site. I'm so glad we did, because it location-wise it was absoultely spectacular, and exactly lived up to our hopes. We clearly went in quiet season, and so we pretty much had the whole place to ourselves for the duration of our stay - what a treat! The only thing I would say is that you really should take a pair of comfy shoes, as Imerovigli town is 10mins walk away, up a hill. Also you will probably need to hire a car, but the island is so beautiful that to go all that way and not to see the isalnd would be such a waste!

Went with family for two nights,is the best value you can get in terms of location and cosy accomodation. The views of the caldera were just outside the door & watching the sunset was perfect from the hotel. The location was nice and 5 min drive to the Fira town which is the heart of buzzling nightlife and greek cuisine. The swimming pool was big and clean. The staff were very friendly as well.

I stayed at this hotel for four nights with my family, 6 of us in total. The photos on the various websites only depict the amazing view and “fancier rooms”, but the remainder of the rooms and bathrooms are not visible on websites. Honestly, the view is the only positive remark I have.
1. The same breakfast is served every morning; Greek coffee cake and a sesame seed bun. No choice of fruit or cereals.
2. The hotel staff is hardly available, and unpleasant.
3. No pool towels are provided or daily fresh bathroom towels. You have to request for fresh towels; which were a problem.
4. The mattresses are terrible; you can feel the springs against your back as you sleep.
5. Two of the three rooms had a small 3inch lip as a shower with a hose with no shower doors; so water gets everywhere.
6. Our room had a shower, but it leaked so water spread across the bathroom floor.
7. Our bathroom window did not close, so it banged the whole night while the wind blew.
8. Our front door did not align correctly with the door frame, so it too banged the whole night while the wind blew.
9. The free wifi is only available in the breakfast room; it did not work in the rooms.

We spent seven perfect days to this magical place to this traditional Cycladic style hotel. The people were very friendly and the room was excellent. It had a very big bath with a Jacuzzi inside. The hotel is located to Oia near Imerovigli where the sunset is really amazing. It is build as most of the hotels in Santorini on the edge of the hills facing the Volcano Thira.
There is a very nice swimming pool at the same level where the breakfast area is. The breakfast was a little bit poor - just a peace of cake, bread and jelly. The coffee was also not really nice. There was tavern nearby where you could taste traditional Greek cousin.
There was a parking where we could park our rented car.

The Gizis Hotel/Apartments is the best value you can get in terms of location and cosy accomodation.

It is not in Imerovigli village, but in its outskirts (Oia side); you can reach every main village on the island by the local bus which stops 1 minute away on foot (at Tasos Taverna).
A 10-15 minute breath-taking walk on a wide path along the caldera will take you to Imerovigli (note that some parts of the path are not illuminated).
We easily relied on local buses, but we think the best option if you can afford it is to rent a Quad (4x4 motorbike).

We stayed in the junior suite, which is simple but airy, with the GREAT added value of a private balcony (while for most of the other rooms the open part is semi-shared).

The bathroom (with hydro-massage shower: it is _not only_ hand-held, you can choose with a knob!) is maybe the less appealing commodity: the faucets are a bit green for saultiness and in the whole it's kinda ramshackle. Anyway, it does its job.

There is absolutely no complain about the staff: smiley, friendly and helpful.
Mr. Gizis is there to help you with _any_ issue you could face, and Maria will help with the language.
We had a very early check-in and addictional breakfast without any charge, and Mr. Gizis came to pick us up by car at the bus stop in Imerovigli.

The breakfast is ok but not home-made; you can ask for addictional beverages beyond the standard supply.

If you are looking for a familiar, non-posh, quiet and cozy accomodation to stay, well-connected to all the villages but away from the crowds and the plethora of souvenir shops, and if you want to enjoy a breath-taking view of the sunset on the caldera... THIS IS THE PLACE!
