Afroessa hotel was truly all we could have imagined for our honeymoon. The big secret truly is that they have THE BEST views of sunset on the island (and we watched them from Thira, Oia, etc) with lovely rooms.
The staff is beyond helpful, from reception, to staff, to the owner they continually went above and beyond for us- even personally calling our hotel in Athens to find out the best ways for us to get there via public transport once we arrived.
You have a nice nook in your room with a sink, fridge, and room to keep some basic groceries which came in handy as we ate breakfast on our terrace each morning.
The pool and lounge chairs- perfectly placed with music that was good and soothing at the same time.
The hotel is towards the end of Imoroviglia which means- no noise, no cruise shippers lurking around, and uninstructed views of the caldera, ocean, and sunset.
We would recommend staying here so highly that even if the price was doubled it would be worth it!

My husband and I stayed at the Afroessa Hotel for 3 nights for our honeymoon at the beginning of May 2012 and from start to finish it was AMAZING. We stayed at several hotels in Paris, Athens, and Mykonos throughout our trip and nothing could beat the days we were at Afroessa and Santorini.

I'll start with the hotel facilities. Joanna, the owner, re-built and re-designed the property and did a gorgeous job. Both the exterior and interior spaces are beautiful and clean. I love the color palette she chose so much that I'm thinking of copying it in my home! As other reviews have noted, the hotel is in the perfect location on the cliff's edge and has an amazing view of the caldera and the sunset every night. The cave rooms are great as they include little kitchenettes that I wasn't expecting. Even though so many more good things can be said about the actual hotel, it really is all about the service that you get at this hotel.

From when I first contacted Aliki to make our reservation to when we sadly had to leave, the staff was great! Aliki and Joanna are a joy to talk to... my husband and I would come back to the evening after a day of site seeing and would really just sit and talk to them as long as we could before it got too late (lol). Not only did they entertain us with conversation, but they helped us set up our excursion to the volcano and in renting a scooter for a day. Every single recommendation on what to do (check out Akrotiri if you can) and where to eat, were spot-on. Each restaurant recommendation was delicious, authentic, and affordable!

Eddie is their great right-hand man. He does EVERYTHING around the hotel. On the day of our arrival, he met us half way on our walk from the bus stop to the hotel, lugged our bags down all the stairs to our room, and on the day of our departure, lugged our bags up all the stairs and waited with us until the taxi came to pick us up! He cooked and brought us all the food we ordered through room service (btw - everything we had at the hotel was delicious). And with everything we asked of him, he had a smile and seemed genuinely happy to do it.

We can't say enough good things about our stay at Afroessa.

Room Tip: All rooms have an amazing view of the caldera.

My wife and I stayed there for two nights in May. It was a great choice We started contacting the manager Joanna back to Feb and she always responsed us very quickly with very helpful information. The other lady Aliki sent us a warming email with pick up/car hire information one month before departure, which is very thoughtful. The hotel itself is great, our room is facing to the Aegean and Volcano, we can sit in our private balcony to enjoy the sunset rather than crowding in Oia. WIFI connection is good in reception and bar/pool area, but hardly to use in our room.

Definitely will go back to Santorini, we will certainly choose to stay in Afroessa again.

I do not have a single bad thing to say about this place. From the moment we arrived we were treated like family and were very well looked after. The hotel is set in the cliffs of Imerovigli, the sunset is absolutely breathtaking. The rooms, called 'caves', were awesome. They stayed cool during the day and warm at night without any air conditioning or heating. Very comfortable beds with a mattress heater built in. There's also a kitchenette in each room with a mini fridge, sink, cutlery and dishes. The pool area is well set up with a bar, music and very comfortable beach chairs. We ate breakfast on the patio outside reception every morning, the Meditteranean omelette is a 10/10 and they make excellent cappuchinos. Every part of the hotel is immaculately clean. I recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to visit Santorini, you will fall in love with this place, guaranteed.

We stayed at the Afroessa for week in June 2011. At first we were unsure we'd actually got a 'hotel' as such, as it is essentially ten rooms sunk into the cliff (they were once wine stores), loosely connected by steps, with a reception area half-way down. Any reservations were quickly pushed aside, however. Yianna and Aliki were extremely friendly and once we'd settled in to our room, the setting started to sink in. This is an astonishing location: the hotel looks west over the caldera, so that every night you can watch the sun setting over Ia, at the end of the island. From 300m up a cliff that view is mesmerising. Several nights we chose not to eat out, rather we stayed in with a bottle of wine and one of the hotel's Greek salads (they don't do much food in the evenings, but their Greek salad is verging on a main course), watching the sunset.
And those sunsets: each evening we wondered how the previous evening's event could be bettered - but it often was. Many crowd into Ia every evening for the sunset but really, you'll never get a better view than from up here. And you have the privacy of your own patio, rather than the hordes in Ia.
The rooms are quite dark and not huge, owing to their origins and not having many windows. But they're tastfully decorated and furnished, and have a small kitchen area with fridge and sink, so you can prepare your own breakfasts (and keep the beers cold). There's a small pool for lounging around as well, if you just want to relax in the sun all day.
The Afroessa straddles the long path from Fira to Ia so Fira and Firastefani are within easy walking distance (and for runners, the trail is excellent pretty well all the way to Ia). There are some shops and restaurants even closer so, despite the idyllic views and setting, all the essential amenities are close to hand.
Yianna, the owner, Aliki and the boys that help are all extremely friendly and keen to help in every way. Santorini is unfeasibly beautiful and the Afroessa was a perfect way to experience and enjoy that beauty.

Room Tip: They all face the same way, all apart from the ones by the pool have fairly private patios or balconies.
