“A lovers nest in paradise!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 15, 2012

The position of the hotel is ideal, being actually on the top edge of the rocks in Imerovigli itself. The views are spectacular and the rooms are equally as wonderful. I personally think it would be impossible to find another hotel for the quality/price that this one offers! But.......
that's only the beginning. You can construct a great hotel in a fantastic position, but if the personel and amenities are not there, then it's just not going to be a first class hotel.
Well....... this hotel equals its beauty with the services provided, not to mention the staff. The staff is really where this hotel SHINES like a light in the dark. From the wonderful female manager Anthi, along with Maria and Eleni, make this hotel run like clockwork and while the reception is wonderfully organizing everything perfectly, all the bellboys and cleaning ladies are working very hard, going up and down all of those steps, to make your stay as fantastic as possible. It just couldn't have been any better.
Thanks to all from Robert & Teresa

Amazing hotel with beautiful service. I still remember the each evening and morning spent there in middle of June 2012. I thinks this hotel is a reflection of the beauty of the whole Santorini island. Breathtaking views from our balcony still in my memory. Very friendly staff did a great job to keep us comfortable during whole 8 days stay. Great breakfasts served on our balcony, I remember every test. Good internet service, nice pull with good patio. I want to come back next year to exact same location. Thank you guys (staff) for great service!!!!

There is no way to describe the beauty of Santorini until you see it in person. On the Rocks delivered in every way possible. The views from your room and balcony are spectacular. Wonderful breakfast delivered to our balcony each morning. The staff is unbelievably helpful and friendly. The pool is small but so enjoyable to cool off in the afternoons. Great location and easy to walk into town along the pedestrian walkway. We will be back for sure!

Hello!
Had a rest in this hotel from 19.07.2012 - 22.07.2012.
The hotel is in a tremendous exclusive place on the rock from where the look grasping soul opens.
It can't be described words is it is necessary to see.We lived in type number Suite. Number is big, unusual design, has the separate wardrobe.Every morning serve a tasty breakfast at any time convenient for you.The personnel is very sympathizing, careful, attentive and isn't persuasive. Cleaning of numbers is ideal. This hotel will justify all your hopes of romantic rest, but at all don't take there children. This place for adults.Let's surely return on Santorini to this hotel. Once again many thanks to the personnel, you super!

Great views from our breakfast patio! Room was comfortable but small. Pool was a great place to cool off. Service was friendly and prompt. Lots of stairs to climb but worth it for the views! Breakfast brought to your patio every morning, good greek omelette, greek yogurt, ask for extra coffee if you need it.

See my previous review 7th July 2011.

On the back of my last review and subsequent complaint to the booking agent, the hotel’s management graciously offered up a complimentary 3 day return stay this summer. Before accepting I was assured that the hotel had undergone a refurbishment programme over the winter months and our return stay would be a more enjoyable experience.

We arrived about 2pm to be greeted by the new manager, Anthi and her receptionist. Unfortunately we could not get into our room as the previous occupant had decided to check out late and had disappeared with the key – so we were kept waiting in the hot sun (but with a complimentary drink) for 40mins. Not a good start after a long flight!

However, our room was a definite improvement on our last visit, the management putting us in one of their Honeymoon Suites. The suite was clean, large and cool, although the main space was a little spartan/minimalist in feel.

Overall, our first impressions were positive! But over the next couple of days we couldn’t help noticing lots of niggling faults; shoddy paintwork; purchase stickers left in clear view on the side of the toilet; 2nd rate shower fittings and a shower curtain that was way to short resulting in the shower room flooding (again!) after every use. For more examples of what I mean, see the attached photos.

If we were staying for our honeymoon and paying the advertised rack rate of €700 per night, we’d be seriously disappointed. Other couples evidently felt the same way…… whilst we were there we either witnessed or chatted to a number of couples who were seriously unimpressed with their accommodation and the hotel generally. They either refused to stay, upgraded (but remained unimpressed) or, in one case, were moved (courtesy of the management) to San Antonio, another local boutique hotel.

The communal pool area showed no sign of improvement compared to last year, it was still cramped and there weren’t enough sun loungers. The introduction of wi-fi availability on the terrace and other communal areas was a definite plus, although connectivity was intermittent and patchy. Breakfast according to other guests, was still substandard and had to be ordered the previous night. Unfortunately, like last year, the staff still managed to get the orders wrong on a frequent basis. We decided from the first day to have a (good) breakfast in a neighbouring hotel, Chromata, at a non-guest rate of €15 each. Cheaper (and much better) than a nearby café.

The management is obviously investing in the hotel’s infrastructure bit by bit, but it’s evidently not going to be a quick fix. Head office management also need to try harder in terms of getting the little details right, from the finishing of the décor to getting the breakfast orders right first time.

So, in summary, we noticed precious little improvement on what we saw last year. Put simply, it remains poor value for money, especially when compared to the neighbouring competition.
To see how it compares, read my review for Chromata. We had booked to stay at this hotel immediately after our stay at On the Rocks as we were concerned that the hotel might not have raised its game when we booked. We were so pleased that we did……

But before I finish, thanks to the management of On the Rocks. Despite this largely negative review, we genuinely did appreciate the goodwill gesture of a complimentary stay and accepted in good faith. It’s a shame that the investment in the refurbishment work has yet to pay any real dividends

I am not the kind of person who wants to write a long list of grievances about a hotel on this site, but I feel that if you are considering this hotel you need to know that - although the setting and rooms are stunning - it does leave a lot to be desired.

Firstly, DO NOT request a transfer from the airport. The cost is 30euro and it is a group transfer - meaning you will have to wait for other passengers to pick up baggage etc and then spend time dropping everyone else off at their hotels. Plus, a local taxi is 20euros even without negotiating! It seemed a little cheeky.

Breakfast was very hit and miss - it twice arrived without cutlery to eat everything, and on the last morning, half the contents of the tray was missing. Although I understand why they have to run breakfast in specified slots, it's difficult to be told on holiday that you can't eat breakfast at a certain time because the slot has gone! The service, although very pleasant and friendly, was also incredibly slow for the one lunch we had there.

If you are happy paying for the location, views and nice bedroom and are prepared to have a sense of humour about breakfast, then you will like it. If not, I would question whether or not it is worth the price tag...

Room Tip: The lower down the cliff the better as it is more private (although your legs will get a workout)
