Owner description: Skaros was considered the most important of Santorini's five castle fortresses. The rock was inhabited in medieval times, because the fortress constructed there offered protection from pirates.

“Great little hidden church”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 22, 2013

I thought Skaros had wonderful views and the hidden church around the back is very special.
I didn't like the small climb needed to get to the very top though as it seemed a bit hairy but we nearly made it to the top and in fact my husband climbed the final rock but didn't fancy the final bit!

“Must do”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 21, 2013

Worth the fairly easy walk down and up the path and stairs to an area of former homes prior to the volcano erupting. Visit the church on the far side and you might catch a glimpse of an older lady and her dog who were there to clean the church.

“Skaros rock beckons”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 19, 2013

From out terrace at Lava Oia, we could see Skaros rock and had to try and climb it. Wear good walking shoes and keep on going, the church on the other side and the view are worth it!

“A great adventure”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 19, 2013

Definitely give this hike and climb a try. You have to go 3/4 of the way around the peak to find the point that allows you to ascend to the very top. Also explore the remaining castle rooms and caves!
