Owner description: Skaros was considered the most important of Santorini's five castle fortresses. The rock was inhabited in medieval times, because the fortress constructed there offered protection from pirates.

A nice little walk for those like me and my wife who are not a big fan of walking.Very nice scenery with two churches when you go down, and another one that we missed when you take the path on your left side of the rock.A good 45 min walk to go and back from the village.

“Skaros Rock Hike”

Make sure you make it to the other side of the rock and follow the left trail down the rock. There is a beautiful church there that looks like out of a movie.

“Great Walk”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 18, 2012

What a great Rock and a great walk safe enough even though it does look daunting.
We only got to the top never tried to venture down to the church on the other side that may of been a little dodgy. Uphill and down but not as bad as it first seems views of the Volcano etc are amazing.

“Amazing”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 18, 2012

This was perhaps one of the best experiences I had in Santorini! The views of the rock from Imerovigli are just beautiful, but even more breathtaking is the view of the caldera when you are standing at the rock itself. It was a bit difficult to find the beginning of the staircase, but that also added to the fun. You will definitely need to do this hike wearing good shoes, as it can be very windy and you can lose your footing easily if you're not too careful. Try to avoid hiking during mid-day, though if you do, bring lots of water. Climbing back up the stairs was a bit awful, but only because it was hot! Definitely recommend this
