“it was everything we expected”
Reviewed August 21, 2011

I stayed there with my wife in Aug-11. This hotel fulfilled our expectations and we have left very happy.
- The rate (Eur180 per night) was reasonable for the excellent location.
- Excellent location with amazing views
- Very friendly staff that go out of their way to be helpful
- Rooms are a bit small but this is to be expected in caldera
Overall highly recommended.

My wife and I stayed here on our honeymoon (Sept. 20009) and had a wonderful stay. The reason you stay in this part of town is for the views which might be the most amazing view I have ever seen! The hotel was small but nice. They have a wonderful area to sit and be in awe of the scenery. The rooms were small but we were outside most of the time anyway. It is a little bit of a walk into town (not too hard) but we would stop and admire the views and the architecture along the way. I would recommend people to stay here!

The hotel has one of the best views in Santorini
the room was very clean and comfortable.
But most of all my girlfriend and i enjoyed the most effective and long lasting massage we have ever had from the local therapist Ms Elpida

At the outset I want to stress that as the owner of a five star guest house in Cape Town (which is highly rated on Tripadvisor) I am very sensitive about writing poor reviews and have rarely had to do so as I rely on the Tripadvisor site before booking any accommodation. Unfortunately I have to do so in this instance. After reading the rave reviews, we were bitterly disappointed and could not understand why so many people had rated it highly. Our main gripe about this hotel is that at having been charged over 300 euros per night for our party of three (my husband, my 11 year old daughter and I), which is more than we have paid for top accommodation in other European city including destinations such as London and Copenhagen, our expectations were high. This hotel was at best basic, comfortable, in a superb location but anything but value for money. To summarize -the rooms are TINY and look nothing like the pictures in the photos which have clearly been taken with a wide angled lens. Although most of the rooms are advertised as having a kitchen, it turns out that the stove has been disconnected and not even a kettle or cups are provided to make a cup of tea. The bathrooms were minuscule, dark, not private (a thin glass door separated the bed which was a few centimeters away) with poor drainage, causing the drains to stink. The shower curtain (this is supposed to be a luxury hotel) was covered in mold. The rooms are right on top of each other, with little or no privacy. The pool was so deep that even my husband could not stand in any part thereof and, although there is a small ladder, there is not even a seat to sit on. If you cant swim you cant use the pool. The area around the pool is very small. Given that there is only one umbrella, we noticed that few people used this area. The breakfast (it is inconceivable that anyone could like it) consists of a toasted white ham and cheese sandwich and a few mediocre croissants. Most morning the coffee was cold (this hotel does not have a restaurant despite advertising to the contrary) and outsources to another establishment. The cherry on the top was when we were billed for using the water in the mini bar (3 Euro per bottle of local water!) after we were told not to drink the tap water. No drinking water is provided. The up side of this hotel is the service - the staff are relentlessly cheerful even when we complained bitterly about the rooms. Its such a pity that in the July peak season hotels in popular destinations, such as Santorini, get away with charging exorbitantly. This having been said, our friends went on to stay at the Relais and Chateaux hotel in Mykonos at 50 euro per night less per room per night after we left Iliovasilema. All in all this was a poor and disappointing experience.

We stayed 7 days at Iliovasillema in Santorini for our honeymoon and we loved it! Location is prime, the view is breathtaking and the hotel accommodations are fantastic. The staff are very professional, attentive and friendly. The continental breakfast is of generous portions and delicious. The pool is nice, and in a great spot for lounging and staring at the sea. Every room here has a beautiful view of the sunset, you will want to stay at this hotel forever!!

Room Tip: studio is great, but the superior studio is much roomier for not much more money

We stayed here for the last three nights of our week long trip. We wanted a few days of R&R after an action packed first few days in Perissa (Hotel Zorzis. Def worth a stay!) of walking, diving and going on excursions. Couldnt think of a better place to stay for this. Our room was next to the pool which provided a great setting for our breakfast with the views of the volcano stretching out into the blue sea. Looking up from your book whilst lying on a sun lounger to see that view is quiet incredible. Watching the sunset in the roof top bar is also something to behold.

Room Tip: We booked a studio but on arrival were upgraded to a suite. A very nice surprise!

After reading a number of reviews on the Illiovasilema suites we booked for our honeymoon. The apartments did not disappoint, the setting is breathtaking and the view of the volcano and surrounding islands is beautiful. We felt relaxed within half an hour of being at the hotel. What makes this place extra special is the service and friendliness of the staff. We sampled nearly every cocktail on the menu from the attentive bar man who always made the time to chat and make us feel at home. The reception staff are always on hand to offer advice and recommendations if you need it. We would love to go back one day!
