This hotel offers fantastic views from most rooms and the communal areas areas are of a very good standard. Breakfast was very good, and included the usual continental mix plus fresh pies, cakes, freshly squeezed oj & good quality coffee.
Most of the staff were very friendly. In particular Lara (breakfast waitress) and Yiota were exceptional and gave the hotel it's friendly 'feel'.
Please note, this hotel does not offer luxurious rooms and I found the hotel website details for the rooms misleading. The rooms are very basic (3 star quality) and there was on occasion a sewage smell from the bathroom. . However the views from most rooms are outstanding! If you are looking for a hotel in a good location, with beautiful views and good customer service this is the hotel for you, but be warned the bedrooms are basic!! My rating for this hotel is good, not average, but a good rating was not an option.

Room Tip: Insist on a room with a good view, this is what you are paying for. A few rooms do not offer this.

We have just spent our two week honeymoon at the Heliotopos in July/August 2011 - and loved it. The hotel arranged airport transfers and as other comments have stated, all staff were very attentative and friendly. Correspondence prior to arrival via email was friendly and informative - we even had a couple of extras thrown in on arrival :0)

The hotel is located a little away from the main drag, but this was a good thing. There are enough restaurants and shops locally to be getting on with (good food, good prices) and we walked into nearby Firostefani several evenings for added choice.

Fira (main Town) is approx. 3 km away, but the walk is picturesque during the day or evening. There's lots to do there with regards to eating/drinking/shopping, but I'm glad we weren't spending the holiday here. Full to the brim with tourists from the many cruise ships which dock daily! This was also the only place we were coralled into any shops/bars on the whole island, as well as being harranged into souvenir shops. Ideal though for those looking for more fun & excitement into the wee small hours.

I admit, the hotel isn't wheelchair friendly to say the least, what with all the steps; but in general I observed the whole island might be difficult for those less able. Stairs, cobbles and lack of pavements meant a sturdy pair of footwear was appropriate, rather than barefoot or sandals.

Our studio was almost at the bottom of the hotels' numerous steps, but the view from our balcony was unbelieveable (see attached picture I took looking out...). Sunset viewing every night never got boring and our room (28) in particular was completely secluded.

The studio was self-contained with a small kitchenette area, shower room and lounge with seperate sleeping area - all very well laid out and pleasantly decorated/furnished. Good air con. for those hot evenings and plenty of hot water on tap via an electric water storage tank. Limited storage/hanging space and no iron (we bought one locally for 5 euros), though the hotel offers and ironing/pressing service. Did have a free safe for all those valuables/Passports, which was nice. TV (not that we watched it) is limited to news 24 and two other non-english channels.

Getting around was easy enough on foot (we walked the 10 km from Imerovigli to Oia around the rim or the caldera on one occaision - hot but worth it) or via the "local bus" which ran at 15/30 minute intervals almost all day/night every day. £1.60 for a 20 minute bus ride - you don't get that in the UK! We also hired a Quad bike for a day from "Jimmy's", which was great fun, but the road/local drivers and taxis' road manners left a lot to be desired!

Oia (pron. eeyah) draws the crowds and is a little more expensive to eat out/drink etc., but offers good views/hotels/amenities as well. It's worthwhile walking down the (many) steps to either of the little harbours, as the seafood restaurants here were excellent.

We went to two beeches during our stay (both had black sand which was extremely hot to walk/lie on) on the South and East of the island respectively. The sea was a nice temperature and really clear, but the real joy was on our days boat trip (organised by the hotel manager - gratis!) when we got to dive off the boat and swim in the hot springs (at the active part of the volcano). The water in the Caldera is the clearest and cleanest I've seen on any of my several visits to Greece.

As you can tell, we were both really taken with the island, and the hotel was perfect for what we had wanted/anticipated. I would recommend the hotel to friends and family, though it wouldn;t be suitable for children due to the pool being only big enough for a quick plunge. We were expecting a perfect honeymoon destination and weren't disappointed in the least.

Greece never fails to deliver, and Santorini (Thira) is a real gem!

Room Tip: Room No. 28 - Though only a studio, was the best in our view

I really cannot say in word, how special and wonderful this place is! We had our Wedding at Heliotopos and stayed there for one week. Everything was nice and very well organized, Lila (with her husband the owner of the hotel) gives this place an individual note with her very kind and special personality. When you stay at Heliotops, you feel like visiting friends. We were met with a very kind reception from the first moment on. Everything we asked for was managed very easy and uncomplicated, the staff is very obliging. The rooms are furnished in light and welcoming colors, typical Santorini-Syle, very inviting. (expect room no. 32, this room is below stairs, and, because it is like a cave-room, a little dark and damp. Furthermore, you don't have a good Caldera-View and the furnish is not as new as in the other roosm). Noteworthy is the homemade breakfast with fresh orange-juice, daily fresh made cake and the posibility to achive fried or scrambled eggs. Especially because Heliotops is none of those stylish but cold hotels, you find erverywhere on the island, it is a welcome variety. We would book it any time again! And here again we'd like to say thank you to the Heliotopos-Team for giving us this unforgettable stay!

It provises a unique combination of hospitality, aesthetics and class.

Room Tip: For families the rooms on the upper part of the hotel with the connecting door are great.

My wife and I stayed here for six nights in late July and thoroughly enjoyed this hotel. Heliotopos is situated in an ideal spot high atop the cliffs in Imerovigli. The views of the sunset are spectacular, more interesting I believe than those in Oia. What sets this hotel apart is the attention and attitude of its caring staff. At the top of this list is Lila, who coordinates all of the weddings and is a defacto social facilitator. Though we were not there to be married we observed 4 weddings in the span of a week—each carefully planned and executed with great attention to detail by Lila, who clearly enjoys this role as resident ‘cupid’.
The rooms are clean, well maintained, all with their own balcony or terrace area that affords a great view of each perfect sunset. I have only one minor complaint and that is that the wifi signal is weak in some of the rooms. Signal is fine in the breakfast area.
We found ourselves coming back to the hotel each day in late afternoon, to take a dip in the pool, rest and ‘recharge our batteries’ and prepare to watch each evenings perfect sunset.
If you want a local active night life and a large hotel with full restaurant, then this hotel is not for you. However, if you are looking for a quiet, well run, well located, fairly priced hotel with a caring staff, then look no further.

Room Tip: All rooms are great, don't feel like you can't stay here if you can't afford the best room. Two level suites are awesome
