“Quiet and relaxing”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 8, 2013

It is true that sometimes we are trying to find awesome places for zen living, but we don't really get what we expect. Well, this place definitely gives this spirit of peaceful enjoyment! The cost is really high but the payback is worth of a lot more! The swimming pool is small but you don't really need to use it while having this great view at your feet. The owners can put you on schedule for a nice sailing trip around the island. The island itself doesn't offer a great variety of beaches to swim but the sunset at Oia is also something you shouldn't miss!

My wife and I stayed at Astra Suites in May 2013 for the first leg of our "trip of a lifetime," honeymoon and Astra helped us make sure it was just that. What sets Astra apart and made it one of our favorite hotels ever, was the service (especially Helen and the guy that brought our room service orders), the view and the cleanliness of our rooms.

The first two nights we stayed in the Family suite, but were then upgraded to the honeymoon suite. The Honeymoon suite was absolutely AMAZING and we were so blessed and thankful that they gave us this complementary upgrade. As far as the view goes, you can't really go wrong with any room. The view of the sea is absolutely stunning. The rooms were both VERY clean and made you feel like you were at home.

One thing to be aware of is that if you're looking for peace and quiet, this is the best spot on the island of Santorini by far. The island really has 3 main towns, Fira, Imerovigli and Oia. Fira is great for shopping and eating, but not for relaxing. If you're looking to shop and party, Fira is probably the better choice.

Room Tip: The honeymoon suite has the most privacy of any room and is just a stunning room. It will cost you...

We chose to stay in the village of Imerovigli because its view of the caldera is superior to that at trendier Oia, and it’s certainly less crowded. Of the hotels there, we definitely think Astra Suites is top choice. It sits near the top of the caldera ridge, in close proximity to many other small hotels, all of them together creating the famously beautiful composition of small white houses climbing the cliffside. At Astra, privacy is assured because all of its rooms have their own balconies or terraces near the pool. The rooms are very well equipped, beds are comfortable, cleanliness is impeccable. Breakfast is of excellent quality and consists of anything you want, delivered each morning to your own terrace. We think the reason everything functions so well is that George, the congenial owner, has set a high standard for his staff—all of then, without being intrusive, are friendly and helpful. It’s really worth spending a bit extra for this hotel.

The Astra Suites are situated in a breathtaking location, beautiful views of the water from the deck and poolside area. There is a paved walkway that connects you to Fira without having to walk on the road, and you could walk in the other direction all the way to Oia if feeling ambitious.
The customer service was above and beyond my expectations, breakfast served in the room every morning that included fresh croissants and lots of good coffee was exceptional. Room service and the hotel restaurant also offered delicious meals with friendly and efficient service.
Staff was helpful and attentive, provided information and assistance in booking excursions we were interested in taking.
The only reason I could not give this hotel a 5 star rating was the sleeping arrangements in the room I shared with my niece. There was only a single queen bed in the bedroom which was too close quarters in this situation (we had only met each other once before) so I opted to sleep on the secondary bed in the front room area. It was a couch that was built into the concrete wall of the room and was extremely uncomfortable, my hips were aching by day 2, and I was not able to sleep. The staff tried to remedy the situation by bringing another pad for the mattress which improved things slightly. I made this suggestion to the Director and he is no doubt remedying the situation as I type this review. We were a party of 6 and everyone else was very happy with their sleeping arrangements so it seems this was an anomaly.

Astra Suites was generously recommended by the owner of Voreina Suites Gallery (an excellent boutique hotel we highly recommend as well), when we were unhappy with our accommodation in Oia. We were really grateful they referred us to Astra. George Karayiannis, Director of Astra, personally welcomed us, gave us valuable tips about the island (the best written manual even the locals would approve), and sent us bottle of champagne with truffles on a windy day to cheer us up. The Jr. Suite we were upgraded to was adorable, with views of the caldera all around. Amenities with Bulgari toiletries were a plus. Breakfast served the best homemade croissants we ever had and Santorini omelets suited to our taste. Front desk staff (especially Helen) and Pano, and restaurant staff, were all super helpful, always attending to our endless requests (flights, tour, ferry, restaurants) with smiles and professionalism. Astra has the best view of the Caldera and best of all, quiet and peaceful, away from the hustle and bustle of Fira and Oia. It is a gorgeous property, well managed and pristinely maintained. We had the room by the pool (201) while it may not be as private for others, we like the convenience and so were really happy with it. While May is low season, the weather was unpredictable (hot some days, windy and cold some other days). In order to fully experience and enjoy the amenities at Astra, good weather is imperative. Helen recommended September, and we will listen to her the next time we visit! Overall, Astra is a valuable gem for accommodation in Santorini, especially for those who can't get enough of the Caldera view and sunsets. Thank you all at Astra for making our trip so memorable and enjoyable!

my husband myself and family arrived here on 22 may 2013. for a week stay in the astra suites. having already been fortunate to have stayed in imerovigli the year before in the hotel above these suites , so we new the lay of the land and were very excited to visit this area again. we had researched the astra suites and knew they had high standards and excellent customer service skills . on arrival we had a glitch with the air con and when the maintenance guys came to our suite and they couldn't fix the problem , Georges the general manager offered us an upgraded room to compensate us we were delighted with our new suite and it came with its own private pool which was a generous gesture that we were all delighted with, we had to move again to another suite as that room was only available for 4 nights but we new Georges had done his best for us as a family and we were happy to move again to another suite .we ate at the restaurant most evenings and the menu had enough choice for all our family it was well presented and the waitress Christine offered us her expert opinion on choices to try her manner was exceptional and she went all out to be very helpful she is an asset to the astra suites and wish her well . on the whole all the staff went out of there way to be friendly and always with a smile. Georges team are all well mannered and happy to help, we loved the pool area the view is the nicest we have seen in all our travels it is hard to beat. the breakfast was always delivered to our room on time, we all enjoyed the pastries they were as nice as any french bakery we have tried , thank you to Georges and his team for giving us a vacation to remember . we wish Georges all the very best for the future and continue to be the top accommodation on the island as it so deserves ,

This is the place to be in Santorini. Our room with our private balcony and hot tub faced the sunset (the famous santorini sunset that should not be missed!). The service alone is incredible. They serve you bfast every morning on your balcony and give you tons of different tips when traveling through the island. When we come back to Santorini we have to stay here. Our honeymoon suite was amazing, large and located on the best side of the island.
