“Beautiful Astra Suites”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 2, 2012

We stayed at Astra Suites for 6 nights for our honeymoon, I can not rate this hotel highly enough. The location is brilliant with amazing views over the Caldera, you can walk to Fira and if you are really keen to Oia. We stayed in a junior suite which was clean and comfortable. We loved having our breakfast on our balcony every morning while still in your dressing robe overlooking the gorgeous view.

The staff really make this hotel, they are so helpful and welcoming and really make you feel special for your stay. They made our honeymoon so memorable offering wine, fruit and roses in our room on arrival, the second day they brought a bottle of bubbles and chocolates to our room to watch the sunset, they even made me special ginger drinks to help with pregnancy nausea!

The hardest part of this trip was having to leave! I would love to come back one day and would highly recommend the Astra Suites for a relaxing getaway. Thanks so much to George and his team for a wonderful stay.

We stayed at the Astra on our honeymoon, and it was the most beautiful, serene place I have ever been to in my life. Another review mentioned how great the staff was, and my first thought was, "there was staff?" breakfast arrived on our balcony ever morning, our room was always clean, but it seemed like it all happened without ever seeing an employee. In my mind, this place cannot be beat!

I saw the glowing reviews and awards for Astra before booking, and so had very high expectations for our time with them. In short, we were not disappointed. The hotel itself is amazing (better than the pictures for once!), but I think it is the service that really makes Astra special and sets it apart. From the moment we stepped foot in the hotel, we felt that the staff was truly intent on making sure our stay in Santorini was special. On arrival, George and Valentina gave us a personalized island orientation, explained our options for activities, and made all arrangements for us. Even when we weren't in the hotel, they served as our safety net in a few situations (sending taxis for us at difficult spots to get picked up). With everyone on the staff, we noticed a positive attitude that any wish we had would be fulfilled. When we returned back to the room too late for dessert to be served in our room, they sent us some of the desserts the staff was testing to satisfy our sweet tooths.
As we had a late departure, they offered immediately to allow us to stay in our room until nearly 5 pm. If our room had been booked, they still have a hospitality suite with showers, etc at our disposal. They really don't miss any details to make you feel comfortable and valued as a guest.
On to the food - the kitchen and chef is truly exceptional. Everything we ate at the hotel, from our daily breakfast served on our balcony, to sandwiches and salads from room service, to our fantastic dinner in the restaraunt was amazing. All special orders are accommodated without question (I wrote in a special egg white omelette for my breakfast and it was made perfectly to order and was delicious). If you stay here, take advantage of this wonderful asset at the hotel. We actually wished we ate at the hotel more than we did. I loved their Mediterranean sandwich so much, I asked that they prepare another one to take on the ferry.
Another detail we found to be very nice was that the mini-bar items were actually very reasonably priced, as opposed to most luxury hotels that gouge you for every item. Again, everything is set up to make you feel comfortable - you don't need to think twice about grabbing something from the mini-bar if you are hungry or thirsty.
Lastly, the room. We stayed in one of the pool suites, which was very generously sized and of course had a breath-taking view. The room was beautifully decorated with local art (it was fun to walk around Fira and Oia and see the same art from your room in the nicer galleries on the island). We had an amazing perch on a double lounger for watching the sunset. As it does get cool at night in Santorini, there were blankets available in the room, and we used them each night to watch the moon light up the sea.
Needless to say, we were quite sad to leave, and have every intention of coming back again. We couldn't have had a more enjoyable and memorable stay!

We loved every minute of our stay there! The staff is excellent and we will be recommending Astra to everyone we know heading to Greece. The facility itself is beautiful and the views are just amazing. The location on the island is ideal. Located in the center of the island makes it easy to get every where, either walking or taking a reasonably priced cab ride. The sunset views are amazing right from your own room! If we find ourselves back in Santorini, we will be sure to stay at Astra! Thank you for a memorable trip!

Everyone we know who went to Greece said, "You have to stay in Oia," or "You have to stay in Fira." We are so glad we didn't! Astra Suites, one of a small group of hotels in Imerovigli, is in the most perfect location on the Island of Santorini. A short walk from Fira, and a short cab or bus ride from Oia, Imerovigli is serene, scenic, and much less touristy than it's sister villages. Also, despite the gorgous sunset in Oia, which is worth seeing, Astra has a direct view of the ruins of Skaros castle and the Santorini volcano. Even more, the hotel is immaculately kept, and the rooms are restocked with toiletrees every day (ladies, we know the conditioner and blow dryer are two of the most important features, and Astra's got the good stuff!)

Each evening, we sent our breakfast order and requested time to the front desk at Astra, and each morning, it was delivered right on time. The staff was courteous and unintrusive, always calling our room to confirm we would like our food delivered and/or picked up. We enjoyed our breakfast on our private balcony, wearing robes and slippers provided by the hotel, and overlooking the gorgeous caldera. After breakfast, there were tons of choices. From the hotel, a 30-40 minute hike leads those who are adventurous right to the top of Skaros. A 25 minute walk leads to the shops in Fira. A 10 minute cab ride leads to Oia. However, more likely, if you're in Santorini, you're feeling relaxed and lazy. We stocked up on yogurt, grape leaves, fruit, cheese, crackers, and of course, wine from Santorini, and spent loads of time just enjoying our balcony and staring at the view. We also spent time at the pool where the friendly bar tender made, perhaps, the greatest mojitos we've ever tasted. Additionally, we spent a morning in Astra's relaxation room enjoying the hot tub, drinking fresh squeezed orange juice, and considering what it would be like to never have to go home.

Unfortunately, the reality is we had to go home and back to work so we can start saving for our next visit! Until then, we recommend it to you. Yia sas!

I can't wait to return to Astra Suites. The hotel is amazing. It is in a fantastic location with the best view of the sunset in all of Santorini.

Upon arrival at Astra Suites we were upgraded from a studio room to a junior suite. The staff welcomed us warmly and George, the amazing hotel manager, provided a fantastic run down of the island, the activities and places that he recommends.

The staff at Astra Suites are fantastic. George is a fantastic hotel manager and all of the rest of the staff are so friendly and helpful. Everything is looked after for you, bags are carried for you, car hire is organised efficienty and the service is impecible.

The rooms are great. The junior suite was quite large and very comfortable. The view from our room was fantastic. I loved being right near the pool so that I could walk out from our balcony and pretty much jump straight in. We received a free bottle of Santorini wine which was very special.

The breakfast on your own balcony is a real treat. I love that I didn't have to get ready for the day and tramp off to a breakfast area. Your choice of breakfast, which could include omeletes, eggs, yogurt, cereals, fruit salad, is provided so that you can eat your breakfast in private.

The restaurant offers great food and a romantic atmosphere.

We stayed for three nights but wish we had planned to stay more before booking our trip. Definitely recommend staying more than three nights to take in all that Santorini and Astra Suites have to offer.

Astra was the perfect choice. Even before we arrived George was communicating with us to make our stay perfect with our room choice and tranfer information. He greeted us with the warmest of smiles and all the information you would need in selecting activities and restaurant choices to fit your taste. We were escorted to our rooms which had flowers, fruit and wine waiting for us. The bathrooms were amazing and more importantly the beds were so comfortable with perfect pillows and light duvee's. We stayed in a suite with a pool which is worth the extra cost given the views are the most beautiful sunsets and we enjoyed our private terrace for breakfast, naps, and magical moments sipping wine watching the sunset. We were celebrating our 25th anniversary and George sent us a bottle of champagne and chocolates. Every Restaurant reccomendation was a culinary treat including Astra's beautiful terrace Restaurant. 4 nights was not long enough to experience all the town had to offer. Not all the hotels in Oia have views of the sunset, but the views at Astra were beyond words.
If you have any hesitation traveling to Greece there is no need. In fact, it is not as crowded making it easy to enjoy the towns and restaurants. The quality of service and food is not compromised by the economy, and we ate at all the top restaurants. Enjoy!!!!!
