“Best Stay of my Life!!”
Reviewed November 4, 2013

This hotel is amazing, whether the location, service or views. It is strategically build that every room has a nice view of the water. Located between Fira and Oia, made it easy for us to travel everywhere. The staff was outstanding. They upgraded us to the fanciest suit and guaranteed we would have an amazing time.It is very quite, food is delicious. We got a massage which was very pleasant and private for only two of us. Unfortunately they do not offer fitness centre but they had yoga classes which we didn't really have time to do. Breakfast was amazing and we ordered to our room every day except the first. It was very glamorous. You go into the hotel from one side of the mountain and come out on the other side. You can not even imagine how it looks, when you know only the outside.
Room was very spacious and comfy. We had a private sun tanning area and a jacuzzi. Bathroom is amazing but there is no shower head. The bathrobes were also very comfy. We didn't really used the jacuzzi at all times. The pool is kept well and has an amazing infinity view.
We had an amazing time so I would like to thank all of the staff.

We stayed here at the beginning of October 2013. When we arrived it was very dark and windy so we couldn't see much of the surrounding area but as you entered the hotel to the reception/lobby you are immediately taken with the unique design of the hotel (it being built through the cave). There is even a chapel which was there before the hotel and they included it in the design. Beautiful and I often took time out to reflect and light a candle or two for loved ones past. You enter through one side of the hotel and after being told we had been given a free upgrade (we booked a double and were given a suite with jacuzzi), we were escorted to the other side to our room. As it was pitch black all we could see was the lovely infinity pool (our room 13 being right outside) and the Restraunt.

Our suite inside was lovely. Massive bed, spotlessly clean, loved the jacuzzi, although on a negative point the shower was over the jacuzzi and not very practical. More than once the bathroom ended up with water everywhere as the shower head wouldn't stay up!! This was more of an inconvenience than a problem as twice a day the maid came in to clean and turn down the bed, clean dry towels provided daily sometimes twice and as I wasn't doing the cleaning you just learnt to accept it. Another negative was there was very little drawer space so a lot of clothes remained in the case.

We ate in the Restraunt on the first night. Food and service excellent albeit a little expensive but we found Santorini as a whole expensive (expect to pay between 5 and 8 euros for a very small cappuccino). The breakfast was included in the package and did not disappoint. Plenty to choose from, fruit juice, tea, coffee, breads, pastries, cakes, fruit, bacon, sausage, eggs of your choice (cooked to order), cheese, cold meats etc ... the list was endless. The staff very friendly.

When woke on our first morning and opened the door the views blew us away. Situated right in the middle of Oia and Fira the location was perfect if you like to get out and walk. We did walks in both directions. Take plenty of water with you and wear sensible footwear. Make sure you take your camera because you will regret it if you don't. I have never taken so many pictures as I did on this holiday. On lazy days we used local taxis or buses. We didn't hire a car!! Reception will book taxis for you (10 euros each way to Oia or Fira). On one occasion we were asked did we mind sharing with other guests which we agreed to thinking we could have shared the cost but no they have n unwritten rule that you are charged per room who both ourselves and the other guests found a bit cheeky and a bit of a rip off!!

I echo others concerns around getting a sunbed if it was busy and unlike the suites on upper and lower levels we didn't get our own sunbed and it did lack a little privacy but the views more than make up for that and on the days we choose to stay around the pool we had the advantage of it being right outside.

We did the volcano visit, boat across from Fira but we didn't realise it was an escorted tour and the guide waited for no one!! It spoilt the experience somewhat but as a protected site you can't visit it yourself.

Overall a fantastic holiday, albeit costly to get there and expensive once you are there. Was it worth it? Absolutely. Would I go again? In a flash?

Room Tip: If you want more privacy dont get one of the rooms right by pool.

We stayed here in early October for our honeymoon and it was an amazing experience. You enter the reception from one side of the mountain and arrive at the rooms, pool and restaurant on the connecting and less windy side. Even though were in one of the cheaper rooms, we had a good time. The service and staff were extremely helpful and always on hand with anything, even going on line for us to search for connecting flights, basically, nothing was too much for them. Every room has an amazing room, there is a small communal pool and sometimes you might struggle to get a sunbed next to it, if its fully booked but you also have your own right outside your door. The restaurant on site provides very good food. Some reviews have been critical of the price, but wine aside, we found the food itself comparitively cheap when compared with many restaurants in Santorini. We found our final bar bill very agreeable.
A good piece of advice for people staying here is that more often than not the bus which stops outside to take you to either Oia or Fira often arrives early and doesn't wait. Even though a car is desirable, we didn't have one and found the bus got us everywhere. The hotel also took us to the port to catch our ferry to Greece. It can make some improvements here and there and turning on the Jacuzzi bath at the wrong time can lead to a very entertaining experience.

The complimentary breakfast is comprehensive and wide ranging - eggs cooked to order, and a very extensive selection of fruits, cakes, crossiants, bread, meats and cheeses, along with a hot plate of bacon, small sausages, and some other random by the day treats.

In short, a beautifully designed hotel, which will strongly appeal to those wanting to keep away from the hustle and bustle of the crowds of the Fira cruise ships, and the never ending photographers at Oia, but it is ideally placed for access for the two.

The San Antonio went out of their way to make this trip possible for myself and my wife, for which we will be forever grateful.

My friend and I visited Santorini just this week. We stayed at the San Antonio hotel and the moment we saw the view, our breaths were literally taken away. My eyes welled up. How can I be seeing what I was seeing. So unbelievably romantic and unbelievably grand! I wished my husband was with me. :) Our room was #23 and it was so beautiful and big! The service was outstanding. The entire hotel was spotless and clean. Very very quiet and so well maintained. The only thing I have a complaint about was the shower. It's a jet tub with a hand help shower wand (not enclosed) See pic. I got water everywhere. Also, you can't flush any toilet paper in Greece. You have to do your business and put the toilet paper in the trash can (that was weird)..the plumbing isn't so great there. It is what it is. The breakfast was good but it wasn't "wow" but it sufficed. The lunches we had were great! Worth every penny. I loved everything about our stay and I was having a very hard time leaving. I have never stayed in a hotel so magnificent before. What a blessing I was able to experience it.

Room Tip: Get the best room you can afford. Worth it. Especially if it's a special occasion.

This hotel has the most incredible views I have ever seen having been built into the cliff and overlooking the Caldera.

The Hotel is about half way between Oia and Fira and I disagree with others who say that it is in a remote location. There is a bus stop outside the hotel with buses every 20 mins to both Fira and Oia. We also hired a car as the island is so small it's easy to get around from this location.

We were upgraded to a Master Suite which had an outdoor jacuzzi/plunge poool but unfortunately as we went in Oct it was too cold to really use.

The room itself was huge with a Queen bed. They could do with having a bit more storage space as there was only one small wardrobe and no chest of drawers.

The bathroom was lovely with double sinks and a jacuzzi bath.

We had loungers on our balcony which meant we could sit in privacy all day long and look out towards the Med.

We didn't eat dinner in the hotel but the breakfasts were great - any type of eggs, full buffet, roasted veg, cheese, bread.....

My husband visited the spa and was very impressed - 200 euros for a 2 hour session including massage, facial and body scrub.

2 restaurants we would definitely recommend would be Floga in Oia, greek food but with a sophisticated twist and Metaxi Mas which is in the centre of the island and you would need a car to reach. Well worth the trip for excellent greek food at a fantastic price.

We also had lunch at Kapari in Imerovigli which had incredible views over the volcano itself. The food was typically overpriced for a salad and a sadwich as is everywhere in Santorini but was worth it for the views.

I really would hope to be able to return to San Antonio and would 100% recommend to others.

We were upgraded to a master suite with its own whirlpool. Excellent service and views. The location was away from the bustle of Oia and Fira, yet within easy access to both villages. Parking for rental car was easily accessible. Do not rely on the timetable of the local bus service.

I can only echo many of the other comments about the fact that the hotel gets many things right but then let's itself down by some details, all of which are in its grasp to correct. The location is superb, the hotel is kept spotlessly clean, the food is delicious and the staff are all very friendly and helpful - but! Anything that is not within the standard package is expensive and the room facilities are on the basic side for a hotel with ambitions to rate itself highly. The comments of others on Media systems/Wi-Fi/bathrooms and room furniture are spot on. To be fair, the room was a good size (we had a Senior Suite) the bed was large and very comfortable and it was wonderful to just walk out of our room onto the terrace and have the sunbeds right there, with nobody trying to "reserve" them in advance. Whether it was a change in policy, recognition that the restaurant had been virtually empty for several nights or the end of the season I cannot guess, but a new menu was introduced on our final night and this seemed more reasonable whilst still offering excellent food.

Just to return to the positives for a moment, the location is unique. You arrive and there is this small courtyard in front of an equally small building as you leave the road. However, you then go into reception and through a tunnel to the main hotel. This is perched high up on the rim of the caldera and the views are just out of this world. You can see right across the remains of what was a large island until it blew up about 3500 years ago. The boats, ferries and cruise liners criss-cross the sea in front of you and throughout our week in late September there was hardly a cloud in the sky. Only weather issue was the wind that could get a bit nippy at times. The only other buildings around you are the small apartment hotel next door and this was only an issue when they had a wedding on one afternoon/evening.A few jets cross each day, but this is no Heathrow!

In general, Santorini is not cheap but it is a very interesting and spectacular place to visit. There is a wide choice of restaurants in the main towns and we found some really good ones that were more reasonably priced as well as some cheaper ones that were very welcoming and offered more than adequate food (there is one - the only one for miles - a few hundred yards up the hill from San Antonio). If the strategy to resolve the problems of the Greek economy is to charge as much as possible then you need to offer something exceptional. The island is exceptional, as witnessed by the numbers of tourists, but I must remain sceptical whether the food and drink pricing levels of San Antonio can sustain it in the future.

Room Tip: All rooms have a Caldera view but there were tales of mosquitoes in the rooms at lower levels down t...
