I stayed at Mesa Riza for 10 days with my two boys 10 and 12).
The apartment is spacious and clean and foreseen with all the necessary amenities.
The place is really a haven of peace!
The pool is gorgeous and overlooking the valley.
It takes 5 minutes to get to Agia Galini with restaurants and supermarkets.
We did a full day excursion with the owner Paul, who took us to places we would never have discovered alone.
We also had massages on location offered by Astra, the owner.
The whole holiday was a wonderful break for us and wet can highly recommend staying here!
If you are looking for a quiet place to ease your mind and soul - this is the place!
The house, the apartments, the pool and the shady poolhouse are just beautiful.
And everything is created with love in every detail. You can see the sea and the mountains. And you can walk to the beach in Agia Galini in about 20 minutes.
There are so many things to see and do in this part of Crete. We had many excursions and the rest of the time, we just enjoyed the pool and the house.
Paul and Astra are just wonderful and very helpful hosts. Paul even played a little piece of his own on the piano - amazing!!!
Our kids (11 and 13) just loved it. It was the PERFECT holiday for us!
The Southern coast of Crete is rugged, rough and relatively lonely, it is still very easy to find a beach where you are alone or only share with a very few people. If you like it busy and you need night life and "spectators" - don't go there....
Once you have decided for the South, the very nice village of Agia Gallini which is stacked on the bottom of a mountain is an excellent decision. Still quiet, but with a good choice of good restaurants, very welcoming staff everywhere, lots of beaches in about 30' driving range (don't come here either if you are afraid of driving steep hills and curves).
Now looking for a perfect place to stay: This is Mesa Riza, about 5' away by car from Agia Gallini along the road to Rethymnon, completely alone, sitting like a castle over a valley with a small river (may be dry in summer). 4 appartments may be rented, all with separate access, and a perfect view over a splendid 8 meters pool towards the sea. Very nicely and complete furnished with style, all details cared of, a true small paradise. To make things perfect, the Belgian hosts Paul and Astra will welcome you, give very helpful hints for places to go, will offer you to go on an excursion (paid), don't say no, it will be the cherry on the cake of an unforgettable vacation.
The downside? Yes, there is one - the wind may be very (!) strong in the South and even last for a couple of days; this is true nature, and with some thoughts you will still find a small, calm beach... and have breakfast inside.
The location is very nice and the apartment had everything to have an excellent stay. " Mesa Riza" is quite close to the village "Agia Galini" with nice restaurants at affordable prices; The hosts, Paul and Astra were very helpful in showing the places to visit. I would recommend to book a visit of some places with Paul as guide. And the massage given by Astra is a wonderful experience !
Meza Riza is well located in the hills behind Agia Galini (not Matala as stated in the location). Paul the owner greeted us and could not have been more helpful with suggestions for excursions, directions and other assistance. The accommodation is great - super equipped kitchen, shutters on the windows and fans in both bedrooms meant we slept really well plus air con in the living area which cooled the place easily. The pool was excellent, complete with toys for the kids. Its a short drive to the mountains, beach and historic sites of Phaestos etc. Loved our stay and would highly recommend it to others!
