“Heavenly holiday”
Reviewed June 25, 2012

I visited the hotel Peninsula with a friend and more than lived up to our expectations. First of all, its stunning location on a prominontry over a shimmering Aegean sea is hard to beat. Secondly, the rooms are extremely spacious and clean with lovely terraces. They come equipped with fridge, satellite TV, airconditioning and, very importantly, good mattresses. We had absolutely no complaints about the rooms or housekeeping.
The reception and bar & restaurant area are dignified and tastefully decorated . We got a feeling of luxury far beyond the price we had paid. Yes, there are steps to climb, but nothing too daunting for an able-bodied guest, and the upside of this are the fabulous views of the surrounding area.
We took the B&B option and were more than satisfied with the choice and quality of food on offer. Other guests who opted for full board told us that lunch and dinner were equally impressive. For those wishing to be more independent , there are, however, delightful tavernas in the small bay next to the hotel. We liked Stelios’ beachside tavern the best, but for guests with a car George two minutes up the road up the road also puts on a great lunch with a lovely personal touch.
If we found any shortcomings at the Peninsula, it might be that because of the hotel’s location, the wi-fi access is intermittent, so not suitable for those needing reliable internet access.
Overall, however, we feel our stay in the Peninsula has been pretty idyllic and we are definitely planning a return visit.

Welcome to the hotel peninsula, what a lovely place. Piece of heaven on earth that caters to your hearts desire. If you like seclusion, and privacy its the place to be. You might have to watch out for the paparazzi...just kidding. Lets see, where do I begin....We booked the sea view bungalows absolutely worth splurging on. There a grapevines growing every where...salt water pools looking over the ocean and not 1 not 2 but 3 beaches you can choose from less that 5 mins of a walk. The private beach of the hotel offers beds for free but the other 2 beaches are pretty nominal for 2 euros a bed. There are events at the hotel everyday for guest so you really never have to leave but I would suggest going to the beach next door "monalifth" and check out the people in the super market...absolutely greek welcoming and atleast have a 30 min conversation with them, you will understand why I recommend that when you do. Also, I feel the same way about Stelios family tavern gosh how much stuff can they just give away...free shots..free desserts and one of them also gave us a tour to the village next door =). The food at the hotel and next door is to die for. There is just one downfall, only one bus to the area from Heraklion a day and taxi rides are expensive, If you are renting a quad or a car you will be just fine thats if you ever care to leave. I would also recommen taking the paddle boat to all the surrounding beaches or even renting it for the day and sun bathing in the middle of the ocean and feeding some fishes. Enjoy Crete the most authentic and tradition greek island with the best foods.

Room Tip: bungalow suites, get the all inclusive package, and visit the restaurant and supermarket next door

We stayed here September 2011, We took my husbands daughter and grandson with us and had requested rooms next to each other, but there was a room between us, we asked if this could be changed but were told there was somebody else staying in that room, there was nobody there until 3 days after we arrived. The rooms were very small, beds uncomfortable, fridge wobbled, bathroom was like a wet room. On the 2nd day of our holiday I cut my foot and finger on glass by the pool, when my husband asked for a first aid kit he was given 2 small plasters and some antiseptic luckily we had more suitable stuff back in the room, there was quite a lot of blood and i was very surprised to see thatthis still hadn't been cleaned the next day, in fact it was only when it rained several days later that it was cleaned. The food would have been ok if you liked cheese but as 95% had cheese in it we ended up eating out, there were a couple of great tavernas on the beech. The views were great. I found it quite amazing that every time you went to the bar you were told you could only get 1 drink, not great when there's 4 of you and one of them is only 2. None of the entertainment was in english, it was all french. All in all not a great holiday and not somewhere I would recomend. Also my husband left his wedding ring in the room when we left but despite numerous e-mails from fleetway and myself we never got a reply not even say they hadn't found it .

Room Tip: go to another hotel

We stayed at this hotel for a week at the beginning of June 2012. We booked it through DirectLine Holidays at quite a low price. We were both pleasantly surprised by the hotel. The reception area was very nice definitely a four star and the room was great too. But there was just one thing about our room that did bug us. It was the smell... We stayed two floors down from the reception area and as soon as we got down to the second floor a sewage type smell hit us and it also lingered in our room. But we still enjoyed our stay at the hotel. The food is good, lots to choose from and the staff are nice but sometimes a bit short. There was one receptionist that was very short and sometimes rude which we found hilarious, but by the end of the holiday we think she warmed to us.

There were a lot of French and German holidayers that didn't really social or acknowledge us...not even a hello or smile but we just got used to it and mainly chatted to the staff that were nice.

We stayed on a half board basis and sometimes we got free drinks from the bar because it seemed like to staff couldn't be bothered to put it through the till, which was great for us. But a couple of the other staff realised this an were short with us. Which was ironic because it wasn't our fault. So that's something to look out for.

The hotel is very big and has lots of steps everywhere so don't book this hotel if you have a mobility problem or a dodgy knee. They have two pools, we only used the sea water pool that is on the cliff because the main one was dirty and had lots of flies and stuff floating in it. We also went to the nearby beach called mononaftis beach which is not the beach that belongs to Peninsula hotel (it belongs to the Sea Side Resort hotel) but it seemed a lot nicer than ours because there were bars and shops. I will definitely recommend a place called taverna stelios, we ate their most days for lunch - great food and really nice staff. We also visited the main beach of Agia Pelagia which is a bit of a walk but worth it because there are lots of restaurants, bars and shops.

Please don't expect much from the entertainment at the hotel. We though it was rubbish and a bit embarrassing too. It was like they had about ten songs on repeat for the whole week that we were there. (Which they played morning, noon and night) They did have a Greek night which I was really looking forward to but it was so boring that most people left after a few minutes.

All in all we had a great time at the hotel. It has wonderful scenery and we had a great view from our room. At times the staff were really generous with drinks, lots of snacks and even a free lunch when we over slept and missed breakfast. So I can definitely recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Don't stay on the second floor down because of the sewage smell and don't swim in the main p...

This is the worst hotel myself and my husband have ever had the misfortune to stay at!!..They do not tell you in there write up just how many steps there are. There were elderly and disabled people on crutches who were confined to one area. The pool was never cleaned, the rooms were awful, with concrete bed bases!.We had to carry our own luggage down 4 flights of stairs...5 star?? No a chance!!.The food was repetative, and often cold. I seen the chef using the same utensils for cooked and uncooked meat. We payed good money, for very low quality accomadation, and very poor food. This hotel is for french and germans. We were the only english there

We spent a week there , I and my husband and we loved it from the beginning .The hotel lies in one of the extremities of the island , that is why the beaches are narrow and short .Very nice , fresh air , lovely view , good water , although a little bit cold when we arrived on the 28th of May.There are a two pools in the hotel , one with sea water and there the water was very warm , especially in the afternoon .Another good thing is , for us , at least , maybe no so good for others , is that the hotel has a lot of stairs , so you get plenty of exercise , up and down the hotel .The food is excellent , not so good -looking , but very tasty , so I highly recomment you tried everything , you never know what you may like .We chose the half -board variant which allowed us to go to the neighbouring village and try all kinds of tavernas and local dishes. The village is only 20 minutes walk along the beach and the view is excellent . The local food is tasty and fresh at affordable prices .We got, even we didn t ask for it , free ouzo and desert , so it s a very good experience to go there and try a little bit of everything. The hotel staff is very friendly and very well trained , they speak several languages which is an admirable thing .There are a lot of French and German guests so you are going to hear a lot of French and German being spoken .For other people can be annoying , we loved it because we practised our language skills .There is a nearby rent a car , we rented a car because we wanted to visit villages in the mountains .The guy from the there gave us a map and suggested a route with things worth being visited .You pay 30 euros per day for a car .We visited local villages and we tried the local lamb and cheese dishes which were very tasty and fresh .But if you want to rest all day long in the hotel and recharge your batteries by the pool , that s a good variant as well .You get all the peace and quiet you need .I dont recommend this hotel for those who like the night life because there aren t a lot of things to do in the night , no neighbouring discos or clubs and the entertaining programme in the hotel lasts until 11 pm after that bye bye .So if you want to go to Crete , I highly recommend the hotel.

Facilities were lovely, clean and well managed however, half board does not allow you access to all drinks and food as stated in the arival pack. Plus due to the bungalow style accommodation, other guests feel as though they can treat you as neighbours: telling you to be quiet after 11, having a sense of entitelment, pushing you out of the way and being extremely rude to the staff. Can't fault the hotel, can fault the occupants.
