If you want to see glitter, gold, opulence at its finest, this is the place for you, it is unbelievable. The architect was obliged to study the original model of Versailles and reconstruct the palace. Having been to both King Ludwig succeeded in his endeavor, this palace is much more splendidly furnished, magnificent textiles and no other porcelain collection is of higher quality. It is a monument to absolute monarchy with no practical function. The innovative additions such as a table that lowers to the servant level then back up to Ludwig's dining room is quite unique especially for his time. The floors are exquisite, from the bottom to the top, magnificent example of opulence. I would say it is a must if in the area, a must.

A magnificent Castle on this wonderful Chiemsee Lake
in Bavaria. King Ludwig spent his and every elses money
to errect this palace. Of course he angered his serfs who
managed to get him under house-arrest. Who took him,
for a midnight walk along a different lake and maybe pushed him in ? No one has figured that out yet. But following rulers
made up for his financial woes. Visit the island and walk in his
footsteps.

We landed in Munich and were on our way to Salzburg. We looked for a nice and calm attraction to visit after the flight on our way. The visit was very nice - involved half hour farry ride, short walk in the nature through the woods and through ver6 nice gardens and water fountains, and visit in the anchanting palace. You can also take the horse carriage ride back to the peer, and enjoy the calm atmosphere on the island beach before heading back with the farry to the car. Recomended as a pass through from munich to salzburg.

A great place to visit - we went in April and it was FREEZING (literally, it was snowing) so make sure you are well-dressed. On arrival from the ferry, we walked to the horse carriages and paid to ride to the castle (because it was snowing/raining) and my daughter loved it. You cannot take photos, but the tour is great - just a little too fast to really take time to appreciate the oppulent surroundings. The museum is fantastic and the grounds are beautiful.

If you thought Neuswanstein was good, you ain't seen nothin' yet!

Built as a replica of Versailles, the interior is just stunning, with a Hall of Mirrors actually bigger than that of the Sun King's!

Easily done as a day trip by train from Munich.
