“Idyllic stay in Provence”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 30, 2012

We had the most beautiful holiday staying at Les Oliviers, the only problem with our relaxing, peaceful break was that we didn't stay long enough, so we are planning to return asap!
Saint-Saturnin-les-Apt itself is a perfect base, with bars, restaurants and shops being a short, picturesque stroll away. Whether it was lazing by the pool or exploring the beautiful nearby villages, Les Oliviers and Provence didn't disappoint. Now, when can we book our next visit...!

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 4, 2012

I am long overdue in writing this review - slack me, but it has to be said that my stay at Les Cerisiers was a notable and unforgettable experience. David and Karen are a lovely couple who make staying there all the more pleasant. Saint Saturnin Les Apt is a pleasant authentic and living village in the region which does not shut down when the season is over. It is well positioned to explore the region and equally interesting and enjoyable if you don't feel like wondering all over the valley. I enjoyed many walks in and around the village and the history of the whole region is quite intriguing if that interestes you. if it does not, there is the wine, the fresh food markets (they are so good), the lavender, the scenic beauty, the nature activities and so on and on and on.

Firstly the situation of the accommodation looking out onto the Luberon is idyllic. The property is uncomplicated yet lovely, not too much and certainly not too little. Olive and cherry trees on site, herbs ot be picked in front of your gite, the heated swimming pool, which, admittedly was still a little on the chill side following one of the regions coldest winters I believe in decades though this did not deter David and I from having a swim on the last day of March followed by some good wine to rewarm our refreshed bodies. The Kitchen had more equipment than I expected, certainly more than the many places I have stayed over the years (and I've stayed in many). The room was comfortable and the bathroom nice. The living area was well laid out. Living room doors and large bedroom window have an unobstructed view over the infinity pool and into the valley.

I was there at a fortunate time of year to witness the changing of the seasons and the beautiful transition which the area undergoes at this time (March - April). Often a time of year people avoid but a time of year I would recommend as I witnessed the coming of the cherrie blossoms and the winter scene forced out by an explosion of green. The transition is something to behold and one I enjoyed daily dining on my private patio. In all I spent 5 weeks with David and Karen, reluctant to leave as I am doubtless you will feel too should you make the wise choice of staying with them.

I came to Saint Saturnin Les Apt to learn French at a local school I cannot recommend highly enough (I'm sure Dave and Karen would be happy to put you in Touch With Susan Bento of language in Provence). It was a bit of a lucky dip choice between this and other French schools which landed me in Saint Saturnin and ultimately staying at Les Cerisiers and I will be back, such was my experience.

The french have earned a reputation, often deserved, for being rude. I can say that this region is an exception. Naturally there was the odd grumpy bugger, but that was the exception.

I am happy to tout David and Karens place as I am confident that you will enjoy a stay with them and be planning your return soon after you leave.

Lastly: I've added some photographs of the property and my morning walks. judge for yourself.

Room Tip: Best chat to David and Karen. they will sort you out right.

We stayed here for 9 days in Sept/Oct 2011. A beautiful and peaceful place to relax after "hard" days of sight seeing. The Gite was spotless, very well equipped and extremely comfortable. As others have noted, David and Karen strike a perfect balance between friendliness/advice/assistance and respect for privacy.

Beyond these attributes, this is a particularly good location for "foodies". There are a host of very good restaurants - ranging from local ones within walking distance to more upscale establishments within a 10 minute drive. We are grateful for David's recommendations for dining out - all of which were "spot on".

HIghly recommended.

We are not sure where to start or what else can be said that others have not already expressed about this property and the wonderful hosts David and Karen. We had discovered this rental about 18 months ago and had been following the reviews along with preliminary contact with David. Everything leading up to our arrival had gone perfectly and after following David's blog our expectations were very high. Needless to say we were not disappointed in any way.

The village of St. Saturnin is that lovely small village that makes Provence and the Luberon so special. It was the smallest village we stayed in during our month-long stay and it had the right balance of services and sights along with good restaurants within the village and close-by as well.

The property and the gite are impeccably maintained. David and Karen were there to greet us and helped us get settled in. They were available when you needed them for suggestions ranging from what to see to where to eat. The gite is very functional and has everything you might need during your stay. And if anything needed attention David would take care of it immediately.

We always looked forward to the apres time by the pool each evening where we could relax and share some snacks, wine and the activities of the day. The pool is a perfect place to unwind and soak up some sun.

We highly recommend this rental property and we hope to visit again some day soon. David and Karen - thank you again for making our time in Provence and at your property so special.

We spent a week at Les Oliviers with Karen and David..Aug./Sept. 2011 and it was a highlight for us. Terriffic setting with 1st class mod cons in the gites. We would go out sightseeing all day and return for a swim and a glass of wine watching the sun go down. As we had already been travelling for several weeks it was great to have the facilities to cook at night and relax. Karen and David are fantastic, helpful hosts and we were also fortunate enough to have the company of a young English couple the same week. We would love to return some day if only to contest the Boule championship!!!

Our second trip to stay in the gites, and the excellent set up that David and Karen have. Lovely clean accomodation, great pool and a superb centre for touring the area. The setting mixes the best of being in a quiet location but within walking distance of the village. Secure parking, great garden with stunning views... wonderful central spot for touring the many hill-top villages. Was well worth a second visit as there is plenty to see in this region. Hopefully we will manage back for a third visit.

We had a lovely week with David and Karen, our hosts, at Les Oliviers. IT is a charming gite in lovely grounds and a superb swimming pool. First class hosts - even getting our supper and a bottle of wine ready for us when we arrived late, and delivering breakfast the next morning. It was a relaxing week, very friendly and a great way to experience the french way of life with the backing of an English couple who spoke our language - and were always ready to chat over a glass of wine at the end of the day. Thoroughly recommended.
