Les Oliviers & Les Cerisiers
Reviewed August 18, 2011

Les Cerisiers was lovely. It was very clean - probably the most important aspect, in my opinion. What I liked was that when we arrived we just had time to get out of the car when David and Karen appeared. (Some places we've arrived at have seemed deserted and we've had to hang about wondering if the owners are even at home.) They showed us around, explaining all that needed explanation. Then they basically left us to it. Some nights we met them down at the poolside for aperitifs and we, maybe, saw them briefly early evening when they appeared for a swim. They were charming and friendly but not intrusive.
-Let's get what we did not like out of the way first: because the kitchen and living area are in the one room, then using the oven in the evening tended to heat up the place more than was comfortable, given the hot weather we were enjoying. But that is really the only negative we can think of.
-We really liked the sheltered terrace where we ate all our meals, overlooking the pool and the Luberon hills.
-Wifi was great.
-Apart from a teapot, the kitchen had everything we needed, and David and Karen provided us with one the first morning when we asked.
-The bed was extremely comfortable, and this can make or break a gite, in our opinion. We went to bed early (for us) most nights, about 10 to 10.30ish and slept well until morning.
-The sofa was also extremly comfortable and the place nicely furnished.
-The pool: ah - the pool! It was wonderful. Warmly cool (if that is not a contradiction)and refreshing. We loved it. We spent lots of time in it in the afternoons when it was so hot.
-It only took 10 minutes strolling to get into the village. We liked the fact that we didn't have to get the car out to go for the fresh bread in the morning or have the bother of finding somewhere to park on market day.
-We had worried slightly about the "semi-detached" nature of Les Cerisiers and Les Oliviers. Would we be in too close contact with our neighbours? However, in reality that wasn't a problem. One evening we heard their TV through the living room wall but generally we did not hear a sound. Besides the occasional friendly "Good morning" greeting or "Did you have a good day?" type chat we might as well have been detached.
Overall, we loved staying here. It was a great situation, a well furnished and comfortable gite with friendly, helpful owners. We unreservedly recommend it to others.

Dear Jim & Hazel, Thank you for taking the time to add your review which highlights some good points and answers a number of questions we are often asked! It is always our aim to be 'in the back ground' and yet available if needed to help with what to do/where to go, restaurant recommendation, etc as well as help in the rare case of there being other problems ie lost cameras, illness etc.
Early evening aperos poolside are an ideal time for our guests to get to know us and each other, swap stories etc . Our client's are from all around the world making it even more interesting. And most come because they love Provence and everything it has to offer !

Naturally the oven makes the living area hot although with windows to front and rear a through draft should help, it is true to say this summer has seen some exceptionally hot periods too - alternatively there is the bbq on the terrace - what better place to cook and enjoy a glass of wine and the view!
We have now added 'teapots' to both gites, something we over looked as Coffee drinkers!
We are delighted everything else including the proximity to the village met your expectation and thank you for recommending us so highly. We hope you will be back next year! regards D&K

I would highly recommend Les Oliviers & Les Cerisiers to anyone who is planning a trip to this part of Provence. The property is in a fantastic location with great views and David and Karen were great hosts. I stayed in the Chambre d'Hote (rather than one of the gites). It was very comfortable and the breakfasts were excellent. An added bonus is the pool.

St Saturnin Les Apt is only a short walk away and is exactly what you would imagine a typical Provencal village to be. It also seemed to be relatively uncrowded, even though I was there near the height of the tourist season.

David & Karen were very friendly, helpful hosts and the facilities were all first class. The pool was very welcome and a great place to cool off from the heat of the day. Superb area for sightseeing and being able to walk into the town was a real bonus (even if the bars do close quite early). I would have no hesitation in recommending Les Cerisiers to anyone looking for a good quality Gite is a superb location.

This is unquestionably the best-equipped gite we have ever stayed in over many years of self-catering holidays. The house is beautifully and imaginatively appointed, the location is excellent, close to good village shops but in a secluded and quiet spot. The infinity pool is excellent and the pool house well appointed. The hosts are very friendly and helpful; early evening drinks a good opportunity to get to know them and other guests a little better.
We had a superb holiday and can't wait to go back!

Over the years, we have travelled to many lovely places and stayed in a wide variety of accommodations in pursuit of our interests in hiking, culture and new culinary experiences. We can say with no reservation that our three weeks at Les Oliviers with Karen and David rate among the very best. The Luberon this past spring was gorgeous. The myriad of nearby village markets were brimming with all the good seasonal foods French cooking is noted for, so the meals we prepared in the well-equipped gite kitchen were tasty and fun to eat on our terrace overlooking the pool, cherry/olive orchard and the valley beyond. Our dining out nights ranged from the simple but excellent nearby restaurants in town to the world class spots that David and Karen would recommend. Not only have the Taylors created a charming and well designed set of accommodations with a secluded atmosphere, but also their friendliness and attention to our needs were above our expectations without being intrusive. We shall happily return and have already recommended their place to others.

Les Cerisiers was the perfect location for a holiday exploring the Luberon region and surrounds.
The gite was immaculate and well equipped with everything needed to make a home away from home. Set in beautifully designed gardens with a superb infinity pool. Within walking distance of Saint Saturnin the property is set on a quiet South facing valley side. This was perfect for those times you want to sit out and relax, either catching the rays, reading in the shade or taking 'apros' of an evening.
Hosts David and Karen are very attentive, welcoming, helpful and have plenty of recommendations for anyone to make the most of their stay.
Would recommend to anyone we enjoyed the gite, area and experience so much, we are in the process of re-booking for next year.
Excellent!!

Having just returned from a week's stay in Les Oliviers we cannot recommend the gite highly enough. It has everything one needs plus more and the welcome bottle of rose was most welcome. The location is superb, especially being only a short stroll into the local village where you could buy almost anything without the need to shop in the large supermarkets in Apt, and there are also some excellent restaurants which David and Karen could recommend. David and Karen made us most welcome and gave us some useful advice regarding places to visit, of which there are many. We have stayed in many gites/apartments in France and can honestly say this is one of the best. Also, the fact that my husband could keep up with the tennis at Wimbledon was an added bonus for him!
