We have been enjoying visiting Berard's occasionally for more than a decade, although mostly the newer restaurant, Le Bistro de Jef. This time we wanted to try out the gastronomic restaurant again after a "break" of a couple of years.

As always we were warmly welcomed by Mme Berard, who took our order and advised on our choices. On this occasion most of the menu seemed to to be flavoured with truffles, and what a treat, even if it was a little overwhelming.

Unusually, there was a little hiccup in the transmission of our order to the kitchen, so a first we did not get the starters we had ordered. But that was quickly acknowledged, and instead of letting us wait, we were invited to taste the starters already on the table, before being served what was originally ordered. Without being charged for the extra course.

We are surprised by some of the negative comments in other reviews, notably regarding the service, which we always have found to be perfect. And we shall be looking forward to our next visit.

We had a work conference nearby and this venue was our gala dinner setting. Despite us taking over the entire restaurant food was pretty much all served at once, perfectly presented and absolutely sublime. We had amuses bouches with champagne, and four excellent courses of dinner. Service was polite, surrounding characterful but the food is definitely the best part. If they coped so well with a massive party whilst maintaining Michelin star quality I'm certain this place would be perfect in a smaller group or as a couple. Definitely recommend. Can't comment on cost as I didn't pay but looking at the price on the website I'm not shocked the meal was worth it.

Thank oakleyrd

Atmosphere: In the past we have experienced several times to get the feeling not being welcome in this restaurant but we decided to give it a try once more, since it's the only place in the area with 1 Michelin star.
Service: Unfortunately we were not taken by surprise and the unwelcome feeling remained!
Service is terrible and you just feel almost obliged to finish the dinner as soon as possible since the owner and employees would like to go home........(The smile = gone)
Food: The Menu choose was limited since a part was not available anymore. Finally we choosed a dish which we all did not want but anyway.... The proposed dish was far below a 1 Michelin star.
Therefore we all decided not to go anymore to this restaurant which only is trying to serve the International Quests who are not (yet) familiar with.

We had a table close to the window with fantastic view of the valley. The service was friendly from entering at the reception until leaving. We had today´s menu - which can be highly recommended - together with a bottle of the local rosé from Bandol. This is a "must" in this area.

We paused in our wine tour in a charming hilltop village, and happenstance led us to a perfectly luscious lunch with incredible views! Who knew? Request the corner table for 2, which feels like a terrace even though it's inside. Let the wine steward select your wines for you. It's all local, fresh and fabulous, with flavors so subtly blended that you may need to ask about ingredients. AND the staff is gracious enough to let even beginners practice their French in ordering.

After lunch, visit the Maison du Terroir et du Patrimoine with its remnants of the area's rich geologic history, fossilized reefs and Roman encampments. As you stroll to the cathedral at the top of town, notice the roman cistern with its earthen roof that looks like a walled playing field. Buy some bread from the master baker just past the town square to stretch your tasty experience of this unique village into dinnertime.
