Fabienne and Robert were friendly and accommodating hosts when we stayed at this lovely B and B in Bernay for 3 days. Fabienne kindly collected us from the train and later drove us to collect our hire car. They loaned us books about the region and could not have been more accommodating, Our room, Honfleur, was warm and comfortable for the two of us and our 24 year old daughter. The bed is the most comfortable I have ever slept in! Bernay is a delightful town and I would recommend visiting when the market is active on Saturdays. The countryside is stunning. This is excellent value and a real find.

Room Tip: Honfleur is a spacious room with a 'loft' style ceiling. The bed is amazing! The bathroom i...

The good things: Hospitality of the patron (Fabienne); a beautiful Villa; proximity to town centre; large bathroom with excellent shower; very comfortable bed; very good breakfast.
Not so good things: sloping roof beams made it difficult to access bed from one side; room very small with inadequate hanging space; lack of surfaces to put things down;room very warm even in April.
In my opinion room (Rouen) only suitable for single occupancy and for the fit and able bodied-no lift and two flights of spiral stairs. I wonder whether the quality of renovation work will stand the test of time?
I hope the Ferme en Ville succeeds. It has significant potential but at the moment I think 70€ for our room was overpriced

Room Tip: Avoid the top floor

Our first three star evaluation since opening 8 months ago, guess it was inevitable after having received 1200 people at our guesthouse!

Thank you very much for your kind words and for having taken the time to evaluate us on TripAdvisor. We are glad to read that you have appreciated our hospitality, our guesthouse and the breakfast, but sorry to see that our standard double room did not meet your expectations.

Concerning the temperature in your room, it was 6-12 celcius outside and our radiators can be easily switched up/down or off by our guests. Our only standard double room (of 5 rooms total) is indeed an attic room which tends to be warmer than other rooms but if you open the window this can sufficiently cooled down the room. We also have a fan installed in this room which could have been switched on.

The stairway and the beams are for some hosts the charm of our 18th century guesthouse and for others a burden, we're glad you have mentioned this in your review as this will better help people decide which room to book.

You have booked via booking.com which has very clear descriptions and pictures of the size of the room as well as indication that this is an attic room. We have in total 6 rooms, 1 on the ground floor that we only allocate via phone bookings as this room is specially equipped for disability access (Mont Saint Michel), three superior rooms on the first floor (Honfleur, Etretat and Giverny) and 2 standard rooms on the second floor (Rouen and Bayeux)/

The price of 70€ includes breakfast with not only standard buffet but also fresh preshed orange juice and eggs/bacon. Compared to guesthouses with similar size standard double rooms this price is in our view correct as most hotels around us have the same price excluding breakfast (and charge an additional 8-12€ per person).

We can't change the stairway and the beams in the standard room that you booked, but hope to be able to welcome you again at our guesthouse in a superior room on the first floor to be able to show you the difference. These rooms start at 80€ but when you book directly via our website instead of booking.com we can make a reduction on check-in.

The host and hostess who speak several languages, were warm , welcoming and willing to make our stay as pleasant as possible. The rooms were well appointed and lacked nothing. The evening meal was home cooked and delicious so would advise anyone staying to try it. Equally for the breakfast we had plenty to choose from and more if one wanted such as eggs and bacon ( English clients note). The directions were invaluable and also GPS directions to find it. although it is in a quiet road the railway runs nearby but did not bother us as trains stop during the night. It was a much nicer stop than the 'commercial 'type of hotel on offer elsewhere in the town and we were treated as valued guests. There is parking on site.

Room Tip: Ground floor room is suitable for handicap persons. No lift to upper rooms.

It is a pleasure for us to read your kind words and we're proud to see your 4 star evaluation!

Fabienne sincerely enjoys preparing Normandy meals with fresh products purchased the same day from small local producers.

We have this weekend started preparing our garden for the summer season and hopefully soon the sun will come out and allow to provide dinner outside!

Our ground floor room is named "Mont Saint Michel" and can only be booked directly as this room is specially equipped to accomodate people unable to access our superior rooms on the first floor and standard rooms on the second floor.

Also this months we will expand our animal park with more chickens so in the near future we will not only serve fresh pressed orange juice but also our own fresh eggs at breakfast (instead of the eggs we currently buy directly from a local farm near our guesthouse).

Many thanks again for this evaluation, we hope to see you back soon at La Ferme en Ville!

We had the pleasure to stay with Fabienne and Robert in their beautifully restored home, and we say that, because they made us feel a part of their home, a very personable experience. The rooms and living areas were well appointed and very comfortable. They helped us to understand activities that we could enjoy nearby. We are so pleased with the arrangements that we plan to return for many days in the spring. Congratulations to Fabienne and Robert on creating a very welcoming environment for our stay.

We are very pleased that you have enjoyed your stay and sincerely look forward to seeing you again this year!

Many thanks as well for your link to the national trust museum of instruments, we will for sure plan a visit to this museum! Our baby grand has finally made it to the guesthouse and Robert plays evenings and weekends, sometimes with guests singing along or picking up one of the guitars to play as well.

Best wishes to Texas, many thanks for this wonderful evaluation and see you seen at La Ferme en Ville!

This was our last stop on the way home from our house in Spain. Fabienne (Robert was away on business) is the best possible hostess. Our room was extremely spacious, well appointed and warm (it was January) with the softest bed linen and towels. The house is fascinating with a wealth of history and has been beautifully renovated by Fabienne and Robert. Our 5 course evening meal was real French home cooking and extremely good value. Breakfast included in the room price was sumpious. If you are travelling with a pet, they will be well suited by the land around the house and the laminated wood floors in the bedrooms. Children will also love the access they are allowed to the farm animals on the property Fabienne's aim is to create a concept between hotel and chambres d'hote and she has achieved this was great success. We hope to stay here again when next we are in Normandy.

A pleasure to read your evaluation and we're very glad that you've enjoyed your stay with us!

Many thanks as well for your comments on pets as indeed we are one of the few guesthouses in this area that allow pets, how could we not with our two cats Vladimir and Balou in the house and our sheep, goats and chickens outside!

It was great to have had you as guests and we hope to welcome you soon again when your are in the area, this time with Robert present as well to play the piano over dinner!

Went for a short trip to Normandie and stayed one night at "La ferme en ville" with my wife and two sons. The house is charming and the bedroom "Honfleur" was spacious, clean, very good beds and beautiful bathroom. Robert and Fabienne are wonderful hosts and Fabienne is a great cook! Definitely try her "Tarte Tatin"!! (Apple pie).
We will come back for sure and will advise this wonderful place to our friends and relatives who might visit the area in the coming months...

Room Tip: Ask Robert for advise and he will certainly help you!

A sincere compliment coming from an established Tripadvisor reviewer, many thanks for these kind words!

It was a pleasure to meet your family and we're glad to have been able accomodated you in our family room "Honfleur" instead of in two seperate rooms.

Following your feedback when you checked our, we now also serve water over breakfast and we've ordered a small table to put in the bathroom of "Honfleur"!

Many thanks for recommending us and we look forward to welcome you again

We have stayed on the outskirts of Bernay before in a non descript motel and this time were loo, king for something different. And boy, did we find it in La Ferme en Ville! At absolutely beautiful place with the most amiable and hospitable hosts in Robert and Fabienne. The building is so full of character with the modern touches in the rooms that people expect these days. We stayed for a night on the way to visiting friends for Christmas and again on the way back. We stayed in two different rooms and both were superb. On the way down we thought it would be a simple stopover with our Christmas beginning the next day at our friends home. However, our holiday truly started the day we arrived at La Ferme. A beautiful roaring fire, a delicious five course meal and wonderful hospitality. We will definitely be returning. I guess you'd better lock away the calvados next time Robert if you want an early night!! This is how guest houses should be and will definitely be recommending to our friends. Thanks again for such a wonderful time. My only criticism is that the guitar was slightly out of tune! Everything else was perfect.

Hi Alan, Vilnu! So nice for us to read your review and such a compliment to hear again that your holidays started a day earlier during your stay with us! I had a wonderful evening myself with the two of you at the fireplace till late after midnight and realy hope to to welcome you back soon again so that you can "test" the other rooms we have to offer as wel ;-)

I'll make sure to have visited Chateau de Breuil before your next arrival so that the stock of Calvados is up to date, the guitar will be tuned, and as bonus I'll have more music from Tom Waits as well in my ITunes Library!
