“A perfect place to break a journey”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 10, 2013

Returning to Herefordshire after an 825km drive from Switzerland which we do a number of times each year , this has become our chosen place to break our journey.
The welcome is always warm , the rooms , though small , are spotless and modern with excellent bathrooms , the restaurant has a first rate menu and the wines are very drinkable and not overpriced .
Perhaps there could be a little more to the breakfast for the cost as it is very simple , but it is also quick for those in a hurry!

I have used the Hotel Du Centre a few times previously but not since it has been modernised. Typical of France things grow on you and first impressions often belie the charm and pleasures that follow. This family run hotel offers a great base from which to visit many of the local attractions from Le Touquet, Boulogne and Montreuil sur Mer and also as a base for a golfing trip.
The rooms are generally small but now adequately fitted out and the restaurant provides an interesting menu. Fish is particularly good as is the onion soup!
One thing it could do with is a small bar/sitting area which would complete the upgrading of this hotel.

Room Tip: Rooms to the rear are possibly quieter but Wimereux is not a a rowdy tourist hot spot!

This hotel is as it says in the centre of this quiet little seaside town. It has a most convenient (paying) car-park at the rear and a pleasant brightly lit art-deco style dining room serving very good old-fashioned French food with a house wine which is both delicious and excellent value. But oh dear, the bedroom! Decorated in mustard and ox-blood, with an orange covered chair bed as the only seating, totally bare walls and dim lighting. Accompanied by the unpleasant smell haunting the hallway, stairs and corridors it is enough to induce nausea in even the strongest of stomachs. Oddly enough the very clean bathroom which is decorated in the same colours looks quite inviting, possibly because the lighting is very much stronger. The stairs are steep and narrow and there is no lift. The breakfast room is invitingly decorated in modern Spanish style, blue and white with interesting patterned semi-transparent plastic chairs and large storage jars decorated with faces. Breakfast is self-service, poor quality and meagre. Items like coffee run out and are not replenished. The staff came in and helped themselves to food while we were eating.
Overall the bedroom was quite nasty and breakfast very poor value for money. I wouldn't rush to stay here again but would most certainly consider eating in the restaurant if passing through.

Room Tip: Don't, stay somewhere else

Blimey, when the 4 of us entered the restaurant it was like walking out on stage! Chandeliers the size of beach balls hanging down everywhere. When i sat down, there were so many mirrors I could virtually see everyone in the restaurant. Occasionally I caught the eye of so many diners I got embarrassed. Just glad I didn't have any skin complaints because every single diner would have been aware of it. But very French and charming.

Anyway, we were welcomed into the hotel by a very friendly concierge, who promptly gave us keys and instructions to rooms. The rooms were neat, clean, tidy and fit for purpose; our room was slightly oppressive but that's because was it was absolute pelting down outside.

We booked in for a meal in the white light restaurant. The food, service and wine were very very good. My soup de poisson was fantastic. The diners were all French, (which is always a good sign) and dignified.

Breakfast (with more mirrors) was also very tasty and displayed perfectly. My coffee was delicious.

A lovely little hotel in a lovely little town. Would definitely go back there again.

Room Tip: First floor as there were no lifts

We stayed here last October and I've just booked again, its a short walk to the beach promenade and lots of nice places for lunch. Hotel restaurant is authentic and food first class. Easy parking and pleasant company. The hotel attracts polite guests which we enjoy.

Greatly looking forward to aarriving.

We have visted this hotel 3 times over the last 15 years and it is always pleasing to return. We stayed in a mid-priced room which was super - it had two bedroom areas and two wet-room en-suites, originally we booked a basic room but chose to upgrade.

There is no lift but we were given the opportunity to have our cases taken to our room.

We enjoyed dinner in the hotel, which serves typical French food. The restaurant was full at one point so it would certainly be a good idea to book a table ahead. The 3-course dinner (we chose the more expensive set menu), wine, coffee and brandy for 2 cost about £70 which was very good value especially as we spent a whole relaxing evening there a there was no rush between courses.

Wimereux is a typical french seaside town, a few nice shops for clothes, cookware, wine etc. and there are a few cafes on the seafront which have glass screens seperating the outside tables from the wind from the sea, we visited in September and enjoyed sitting in the sun without the wind chill factor.

The beaches all along the coast are fairly spectactular, however the coastline is tidal so the tides come in and go out twice a day, so it'd be worth checking tide times if you are planning a beach break. We enjoyed watching the wind-surfers and surfers in the late afternoon whilst the tide was going out.

There are a few little towns along this part of the coastline (between Calais and Bologne) and we didn't get a chance to walk over the sand dunes a couple of miles up the coast as we only stayed for one night. If you enjoy walking there are plenty of routes you can take. Next time we will stay again at the Hotel du Centre but for a couple of nights.

Room Tip: We had a fairly recently refurbished room, I'm not sure that all of them have been updated. We...

We stayed one night here en route to Languedoc. Easy to find and parking was free on street until 9am. I personally found the bed a bit hard but room was lovely and clean and spacious.
We ate at the restaurant which was very busy for a Thursday night. Food was classic French and very good. Waiters were very friendly and helpful. Cafe gourmand was really delicious with large portions. Easy walk to beach and promenade.
