This hotel is as other reviewer said, cheap and cheerful. We had room 2which was also huge with separate bathroom and toilet (in the room). It was very clean, nice crisp white linen and towels and although decor is a little dated in style it was well looked after. Wifi access good, breakfast usual continental offering and adequate. The young man wHo served our eve meal was a delight. This is a beautiful little car free town. This is a lovely little auberge.

Room Tip: Room 2 has a window over the dining terrace so if you like to go to bed early (before 11pm) ask fro...

The hotel is in a great location, right in the middle of the village. Parking is outside the village, 10 mins walk, although we were able to drive in to drop off our luggage.
Our room was no. 8 a really huge room, seperate bathroom and toilet. There was a fantastic view from the room, free wi fi which worked both in the room and in the bar downstairs.
The hotel does not have a lift and our room was at the top of 3 flights of narrow curving stairs. It was ok for us, but older or infirm guests could find it a challenge.
The bed was reasonably comfortable, the sheets were crisp and clean, however the blanket was an old checked woolen one with frayed and torn satin binding, that and the bedspread were not very pleasant to sleep under.
One very odd feature of the hotel is that the walls are carpeted, I suffer from hayfever and had a hard time of it from the dust. The bathroon is large and has a shower fitting in the bath, so showers are crouching in the bath holding the showerhead in one hand washing with the other.
A word of warning, beware the cappucino, We ordered one and it arrived, an inch and a half of coffee with 3 inches of whipped cream dusted with chocolate on top. The hotel was very reasonably priced and value for the price

Worst experience ever in a restaurant in terms of service!.. I'm French and I know what good service in France should look like and it's not like this!!... VERY slow service, inexperienced waitresses not supported by the maitre d', maitre d' borderline rude and definitely totally indifferent to the mayhem going on in the service. We had to ask for bread constantly and they ended up running out of it before we got to the cheese. Took 2h45mns altogether even though we were one of the first seated tables seated during the service. A busy day in the restaurant, but that's no excuse for prioritizing other customers over us just because we were further away from the kitchen!
The only redeeming feature is the food was good but the service definitely spoilt it all.

We took two double rooms here in October 2011 at a cost of Euro 52 per room. One couple had a dog ( no charge). Parking is free, 10 mins walk away in a public lot. Free Wi-Fi (which worked). Rooms are quaint but comfortable for the price, and up three flights of stairs. There is a fairly decent restaurant where we had dinner and a bar where all the locals hang out. The village is in a lovely setting and the hotel has an excellent location right next to the Abbey. Good value, especially in off-season when there aren't many hotel options in Conques.

We paid 52 euro for one night in a double room (we didn't buy breakfast). I was happy to find an affordable room in Conques and was pleased at how close it is to the Abbey (literally steps away). The room was clean with a comfortable bed and hot water with excellent water pressure in the shower. Wi-fi was free. My only criticism is that the room was rather dimly lit.

We took a bus to Conques, and the bus stop is less than a five minute walk from the hotel. I'd recommend staying here to see an stunning abbey in a pretty and well perserved town!

Firstly you have to understand about Conques to appreciate why a stay at the Auberge was good value.

Conques has gained a reputation of being the "prettiest" of the "prettiest" villages in France and home to the amazing statue of Saint Foy and other religious treasures. It is also on the Santiago de Compostela route for Spain as well. The village of Conques is situated at the top of a hill and parking from what I could tell was limited. This means that accommodation choices are divided between staying in the village or at the bottom of the hill. The Auberge is situated right in the main street of the village in the middle of all the things there are to visit.

We arrived at Conques without any reservation (not recommended in the height of summer or mid October when the statue of St Foy is walked around the village) and decided to take pot luck with any accommodation we could find. I was interested in staying at a more expensive venue but when we realised where the location was of the Auberge we decided to try our luck and were able to find a room. The room was very comfortable, with a king sized bed and had a view of the action in the street.

I think the room had been recently redecorated. The bathroom was clean and a generous size and we also had a seperate toilet to the bathroom.

We thought we would test our luck even further and try the Auberge restaurant. Again a booking at the last moment was able to be accommodated. The food was very good and certainly a very pleasant surprise for us.

There are no real negatives about staying at the Auberge. Perhaps you need to limit the amount of luggage that you intend to bring if you are walking in from the car park outside the village as well as taking into consideration the narrow stairs and plenty of flights if you are staying at the top of the building.

But all in all these are extremely minor by comparison to staying in the heart of a wonderful village and getting up first thing in the morning to wonder where millions of pigrim feet have wondered over the centuries.

As a total experience we were very surprised and certainly impressed by our first experience of a two star french hotel. Well done to the Auberge

Our room which was above the restaurant and you had to go through the restaurant and up some stairs to get to it, had been totally refurbished. The bathroom had all new fittings and tiles, the room was newly decorate in shades of yellow, ochre and red (although where they found that brown carpet....) It was excellent for the price. The restaurant was OK not fantastic (it was probably the best in the village, which to be honest is not saying much). The local speciality seems to be mashed potato and stringy cheese served with two large sausages. They have parking space along a narrow back lane for about four cars. It's very tight, if you use it, pull in your wing mirrors. It is probably easier to leave your car in the carpark at the entrance to the village (only locals and those unloading allowed into the village). Conques itself is not as spectacular as I had thought it would be, but is pretty and surrounded by green mountains.
