The starter of fruit and salad was interesting and fun if not a bit steep at 10€.

Had the plat de jour which was an excellent meal of two god chunks of pork rib steak, in a great mushroom sauce with roast aubergine, tomato and chips. Good value at 12€.

Partners main wasnt so good - although tasty etc etc as Ris de Veau was short on veal - so at 22€ was poor value.

House red at 64 was great.

Outdoor patio, friendly and efficient staff. Quick service.

We stopped off in Ax on our way back from a ski-ing weekend in Andorra and this was a completely random choice. You get the impression that it's about three very old flats cobbled together to form a kitchen and two dining rooms, and the restaurant has an "Aladdin's cave meets Rasta Yeti" vibe going on...drafty cracks in the walls and crumbling beams are covered with brightly covered carpets and Mexican throws, photos and pine branches. The waitress was very friendly despite the restaurant being full and every plate of food coming to the surrounding tables looked delicious. We opted for the cheese fondue which was made with local mountain cheese, with selection of cured meats. Generous portions, brilliant relaxed ambiance and very fairly priced, this restaurant is a must. The clientele was quite young on the night we went, and the cosy atmosphere means you quickly get chatting to your neighbor.

Not many places are open in Ax on a December Sunday night.

Six of us arrived without any reservation and a table was quickly set up for us. After ordering, one of us changed his mind about the main, which was gracefully accommodated.

The food, though not outstanding (one of us ordered some soup and it was full of bones), was good. The service? Excellent!

really great staff here, very helpful, very accommodating, always a smile. The food is good too, local fare and good portions. We stayed a week in the town and ate here three times, couldn't find anything to beat it for variety and value.
